  1. Here's one for the experts, the factory fitted brace which sits between the turbo and engine mount and engine block, obviously for supporting the turbo. My thoughts were that it was just Ford over engineering. what do you lot think ? is it really needed or should I polish it and call it bling ?
  2. heres one. ford has your manifold machined and in the process destroys it. it's my fault because: my car has'nt been serviced at ford since the warranty ran out. true story I'll bet I will have a few more for this thread by the time I get my car back from ford. It has now been 9 days off the road
  3. thanks to everyone for your advice and offers of parts. Just got back from ford after inspecting my manifold. The dopes that machined it totally stuffed it so I told ford to sort out between themselves and their machine shop as to who was buying me a new manifold, and to my total surprise there were no arguments, just appologies and thanks for my input. Ends up that the head to manifold surface was good, but turbo mating surface was stuffed and machined so far that one stud hole had only four turns of thread left in it Anyone that lives on the central coast (N.S.W) will know the CLUTCH AND BRAKE dopes who done the "machining" if not pm me and I'll give their name offline so you can steer clear of them.I've had dealings with these clowns before and vowed never to go back, pity ford could'nt see how incompetent they are.
  4. Unfortunately it's out of warranty, but because it is a known common problem(loose bolts) I will be arguing the price.
  5. after tightening the manifold bolts for the third time, I decided to ring around for a cure.ring ford and they say if they do the job then if they come loose again it's their problem to fix. Me thinks cool coz sure as sh*te they will come loose again and they can fix it Get the call from ford...hey dude ya manifolds warped from bein loose for so long...what ? for an hour at most till they were tightened again No wukkas ole mate get it machined. job done but deemed by ford not good enough so done again. after machining twice and still warped they tell $1500 to fit newie. Can anyone tell me how much warp is too much coz I'm goin down there tommoz with my micrometer and dial gauge to check em out. they're probably only out by .001 but these clowns wanna scalp me for more of the hard earned stuff. Anyone had this problem (the manifold ,not ford)??
  6. go the extra warranty! if I had known extended warranty had even existed ford woulda replaced my leaky hair dryer, but at 110k I have at this moment a turbo less xrT sitting in my shed which I gotta fix myself
  7. don't know if this is a common problem or just a one off. the missus came home complaining of a noise in the rear end of the xr6t. after removing the rear wheels and looking and doin a lot of head scratchin I noticed the handbrake cable draped over the driveshaft boot. seems it dislodged itself from it's locating tab on the crossmember just above and in front of the diff on the drivers side, allowing the cable to drop onto the cv boot. being a sort of convoluted metal cable I think I was very lucky that it did'nt tear the crap out of the boot, it did however pull the boot off flinging grease everywhere. the solution was to put it back into it's locating tab and cable tie the open end of the tab so it can't fallout again. I suggest that anyone with a car that is out of warranty to spend 5 minutes under the car on this preventive maintainence coz I sure as hell would have been pissed off if I had to pull the drive shaft out to replace a ripped dust boot. 5 cents worth of cable tie might save you plenty of heartache. steve

  10. Thanks ninka (for the info & the welcome) was able to do some ringing around today and came across only one company willing to sell me a kit due to as you pointed out balancing and a couple of other test procedures needed to get any sort of warranty. so for the extra couple of hundred bucks I don't think I'll even bother getting my hands dirty (I get enough of that with my xy ute)
  11. I have just posted elsewhere on this forum with a similar problem got smoke in the engine bay but not out the exhaust. when I find out the prob I'll let you know so you will know what to look foward to.
  12. hey guys an gals. new to this forum so I'm prolly posting in the wrong section. it's late sunday and nuthin's open so I thought you lot might help. anyone know if seal kits are available for the turbo or do I hafta buy a complete rebuild kit for my smokey snail ? it is weeping oil between the centre housing and the turbine housing, but does'nt look to be getting into the turbine as there is no smoke from the exhaust just a wisp of smoke in the engine bay when hot. anyone else had this problem yet ? we have 110,000 kays on the clock. it is a 2003 BA
