Alright fellas, used the flash tuner to scan the error code: "P1132 Lack of ho2s1 SWT RICH" From my brief searches it seems like it could be either a faulty o2 sensor as I initially thought, or it could be a dirty MAF sensor, or a leak in intake/IC piping causing an irregular fuel mixture and the car is running rich. Can anyone confirm if I'm on the right track here? I cleaned out my air filter a few weeks ago, and I'm starting to think that I might not have secured the airbox to intake piping well enough, and it has come slightly loose causing a leak. I will have to do some inspecting this weekend. I have cleared the code for now, but I am expecting it to come back soon enough. Let me know what you guys think.

Fair point Andrew. I'm gonna have to check after work tomorrow before I consider ordering parts. Haha every post of Steve's I've read have involved skids in one way or the other You are 100% right mate. I'm gonna sort it asap. Better to order the part myself and have it installed at an exhaust place Im guessing?
-
In all honesty, I'm not sure mate. They must have put the original sensor back on when changing the CAT because as far as I know, this is the first time the warning light has come on, and the exhaust was installed in 2009. I couldnt imagine that the cartridge would be dirty either as the km's are still pretty low. I'm guessing something caused the sensor to go. Yes, the car has been tuned - 340rwkw with all the bolt-on's. I have the Xcal tuner, could maybe clear the code with it, but it would probably just come straight back if the sensor is faulty. Hahaha mate, if those P Zero's werent $350 a pop I'd be shredding them to bits!

Hey guys, thought its about time to start another topic here. Those that have read some of my previous threads would know the car in question, for those that don't - '06 BF2 Typhoon, 76k on the clock. On the way home from work yesterday afternoon my emissions light came on. I used to own a little Barina many years ago that ended up having a faulty 02 sensor which displayed the same emissions light, and I drove it around like that for a long time before getting the issue fixed. What I want to know is, is it safe to drive around? I didnt care if I did damage while driving the Barina, but obviously I care for the Phoon and wouldnt want to drive it if I could potentially cause issues. Should I stop by my local exhaust shop and get the sensor checked? The exhaust is a custom 4" turbo back, and I've never had this light come on before.

Piping is 8 years old.

Elite Automotive in Archerfield. My BF F6 got the full treatment in '09 by these guys, and the car still runs great today. You could also try chip Torque in Nerang, I've heard they're good, but I've only ever used there dyno, so cant vouch for tuning ability.

Qld, Gold Coast. Haha looks like something outta Mad Max.

Thanks, masda. Will definitely check in more often this year! Will check the thread out for sure mate.

After 4 months of owning the car everything has loosened up a bit and the gearbox has adjusted to the way I shift. The car was only driven 3k kms in like 3 years, so I guess it just needed some daily driving to get her to loosen up. Somewhat like a woman huh

@masda74 Hey mate, yes all is fine now, car drives great and haven't had further issues. On a different note, I had someone rear end me about 3 weeks ago, but damage is very minor, although repairs are going to cost $1800. Luckily insurance has that covered, although I nearly had a heart attack before seeing the damage was minor. Was very surprised actually, old mate hit me rather hard while I was stopped dead in Monday morning 9am traffic. Thought the damage would be way worse, but when I got into gear and moved forward only the paint was scratched, and the rear bumper insert needs replacement - apparently those cost $950 lol.

I must admit that the pipes do tend to get very hot, and I've been wondering what the effects of that may be. I'm gonna look into a turbo side intake and weigh my options up. Thanks guys!
-
@Box Will definitely look into it, thanks mate. Car has all the bolt-ons including larger Nizpro intercooler, so its definitely an option.
-
It does already flutter, but I can hear its very muted which is why I can only hear it when boost pressure is fairly high. Reckon I'm gonna avoid the turbo side intake. Might customise my own intake with a pod filter and something to block out the hot air, and see how it goes. If its crap I'll just fit the 270 box back on. I will measure the piping this weekend too, it might very well be 2.5 inch for all I know. Thanks for the advice fellas, will update when I've had a play around with it.
-
Thanks for the response Puff I haven't measured the piping yet, but I think just by looking at it, it will be roughly 3-3.5 inch from the intercooler, as well as from the turbo. At the end of the day, this car has had a lot of $ spent on it and I dont think I'll be changing too much, but as I said I do want a little more turbo chatter from it. What would be the best way to achieve this? @Box Lol! its all about the girth mate. You can throw a sausage down a hallway, but if it doesnt touch the sides then its not good for anything, no matter how long it is!
-
Thanks for the explanation Box Stock. I Thought the thicker pipe work would have allowed for higher airflow negating the elongated piping, or at least to a certain extent. I can definitely see the benefits of having it way shorter though.
-
Thanks Keith, and Ralph. Any reason why a turbo side intake would be more beneficial? Excuse my ignorance. Ralph, do you mean the larger piping is costing me performance? I wasn't expecting much benefit to the pod filter, but I do want a little more induction sound. I can only lightly hear the turbo in the higher rev ranges when it starts to work pretty hard.
-
Hey guys, As you can see in the image below, I have the piping upgraded, but still running the standard air box. I'm just wondering how restrictive the standard air box is? Would a less restrictive cone filter be of any benefit, or would I just be making more noise whilst sucking in hot air from the engine bay? How big should the filter be if I decide to give it a try? Any advice appreciated!

How is the car feeling with the intake running stock tune? My experience with my old XR5T was that it ran a bit lean with a CAIS and stock tune.

I believe its a Billet one.

Hey guys, Im after some opinions on short shifters. I have one installed on my '06 BF Typhoon (already installed when car was purchased), and Im not sure how much I like it. Unfortunately, I've never owned or driven another Falcon without one, so Im not really sure how its supposed to feel. My issue is that sometimes gear changes can be tough, like if Im downshifting from 3rd to 2nd it needs a bit of force at times. I've had the same issue going from 4th to 5th etc. The entire box also just feels very stiff - if Im in neutral it requires a bit of muscle to just wiggle the stick from side to side. This is the first short shifter I've had on a car, so I dont even know if its supposed to be like this. For the most part gear changes are fine, and I've gotten used to the feel of the shifter, but at times it just didnt want to work with me. Should I check trans fluid before attempting to remove the SS?

With the abolishment of the local car market, there will no longer be an import tax, which means that all imports will cost roughly 40% cheaper as they do in NZ. You will be fine to buy whatever you want in a few years time.
-
Ah mate, I understand very well how you feel. Bought my '06 BF 2 weeks ago and already had to drop a grand on a slave cylinder replacement and brakes getting stuck all due to old brake fluid. Hopefully you get it sorted without emptying your pockets mate!
-
Thanks, skid. I've been hooked since my test drive lol. I havent even had the balls to turn traction control off yet! This sight seems great and Im sure I'll be hanging about for a while, through the good and the bad during my ownership

@Puffwagon The car has been modified by Elite Automotive, it makes a safe 336rwkw running 15psi, and has all the supporting mods and then some. All the money has already been spent essentially. Its now just maintenance. I dont generally buy modified, but this car had all the work done I was probably going to end up doing anyway, and so far no issues seem to be have been caused because of mods. I generally never thrash my cars, always allow for warm-up/cool-down grace periods before even hitting boost etc. So I'm sure the car will be fine in my ownership assuming everything is good after the clutch repair. The guys at Bridgestone reckon the car is good and shouldnt have other problems. Guess I'll have to wait and see.

Honestly he is a good bloke, but he is also a stranger I met on the internet and we obviously cannot just trust and assume the best of everyone, regardless of appearance. @sixman This scares me. I mean, I have made provision for some money to be spent because I knew it was an aging performance car. That being said, I didnt budget on having to get a fund going for a headache that never goes away. I guess I also took into consideration that the car has only done 72k kms, and that things shouldn't be going south this quick (talking in general, not about clutch issue) I'll just have to see how it goes I guess.
