The avatar is indeed wondrous. I am on nightshift and have spent the last 5 mins just staring at it. You're not on nights as well are you ?

Nice one. I will admit, the laws down Mexico way are very draconian with respect to speed. At least here they get a little tolerance. I doubt it will open a floodgate though. Most people can't spell necessity (I hope I just did!)
-
For starters many people will dispute the speed, depite the fact that its a laser or a radar, so showing them shuts them up. When you ping them in heavy traffic showing them and allowing them to see how it works shows them you couldnt possibly have gotten it wrong. They pay the fine and everything is fine. When they do anything but pay the fine its additional unnecessary paperwork for us. Many people doubt everything we say and I have lost count of the number of not guilty pleas I have avoided by showing people the speed. How would you feel if you were accused of a speed, you didnt think you were going that fast, and a copper refused to show it to you. Spelling out your rights of appeal, well that's just standard procedure these days for evrything from traffic tickets to council decisions to workplace issues. Its hardly cheeky and, again, saves us annoying paperwork when somebody writes a letter disputing the TIN to someone tother than what they should have. I know you're only trying to have some fun, but saying something is stupid when you aren;t aware of the full facts doesnt help. Imagine if you were in busy traffic and a copper picked you out as doing 83 when you thought you were going the same as everyone else. He/she solves the problem by showing you the speed and availing you of your rights of appeal. Maybe no-one gets off in Vic, but that's not the case in the rest of Australia. Stats show here that about 95% of TINs are successful (I.e. get paid or result in a court win for the Police). Of that well over 90% just get paid without a second thought. Lets say, at best 90% of people just pay the TIN, that means that a lot of people do get off, where I come from......but dont get me started on magistrates

How is standard procedure dumb ? People are allowed to look at the radar reading, its standard procedure here to ask. Its also standard to tell people how they can dispute the matter if they think they've been hard done by

"b) More well-off vs less well-off The more well-off generally have more access to, and awareness of, how to lawfully minimise tax. Naturally, high marginal tax rates give incentive to engage the services of skilled tax practitioners who know to structure things to reduce tax borne." Whilst I see your point, I have busted my backside to become one of those in a higher tax bracket. If I have a skilled tax practitioner who structures things to minimise tax, and that is all legal and above board, then why shouldn't I reap the benefits of my hard earned cash. I, for one, am sick and tired of seeing increases in the 'minimum wage', and tax concessions for low to middle income earners that dont follow on to those who earn a bit more. Many people in society cannot help their lot, but at the same time many are content to sit on their arse without any aspirations and use the system to benefit themselves. I do the same using my accountant. Whilst I do have some sympathy for those who aren't as well off as I am (and I'm no millionare, trust me!), I am sick of the scorn that is heaped upon the better off by lefty, tree huggers like ACOSS and the like. My rant endeth

The Police/council can only take as much action as the law permits. We don't write the law, we just enforce it. Funnily, or not really funnily, my wife's catlooks like the same sort of thing happened to it yesterday but it didn't die, though its not real healthy at the moment. Essentially its a dog control issue, not one for the Police. If the attack is happening on humans and at the time we will turn up and deal with it as we can. The rest of the time there are specialist areas such as dog control or the RSPCA that deal with it. I'm pretty sure, but could be wrong, that they are the only people that apply for destruction orders, and that is through a Court after some sort of conviction has been recorded against an owner. I would be chasing it up through council and the specialist dog areas, not the Police, as they will just refer you on to them. You do have a right to protect persons and property on your land, and have legal action available to you to sue for the death of your cat. If the coppers are taking statements then some sort of prosecution may be imminent but, in my experience, it takes a lot for a dog to be destroyed Good luck

The other day I told a bloke to get off his mobile phone as he drove slowly past an accident..........he was scratching his ear I have lost count of the number of times I have said 'do you have your licence there please, sir' and looked in the car and saw I was speaking to a woman (and a couple of times vice versa with guys). I now just say 'can I see your licence please'. There are a few others......just gimme some time to think. Several times you end up speaking to people and accusing them of doing something wrong when the description you've been given is wrong, or the people match the description but, once you start talking to them, obviously have no idea what you're talking about and aren't involved. And, the worlds most embarassing one, having your bluff called. Its only happened once and it ended up a very ugly, bloody, mess. But the guy still lost and got locked up

Dinner was nice, Turkish

Something happened last night that solidified my beliefs that we live in a nation of booners, westies, bogans or whatever you want to call them. I went out for dinner and when I went back to my car in the carpark someone had spat a number of times on it. Now this is simply mindless. I was parked in a regular carpark in a well lit area amongst other untouched cars. I can inly assume the spitting happened for one of the below reasons: a) the old Ford v Expensive Daewoo thing b) straight out jealousy c) the typical attitude that if someone sees something nice, they have to 'damage' it. Someone goes out of there way to shell out a bit of extra coin to have something nice, and some moron takes offence. This type of behaviour solidifies my belief that the average Australian male possesses the following characteristics. They lack intelligence and common sense They are poorly educated or just didnt pay attention at school They underachieve because they are lazy When asked for an opinion on something its always 'sh*t' but they cant tell you why Their racial/moral beliefs border on 'redneck' Although they have never played any sort of sport at a decent level, they can tell you how hopeless a particular team/individual is I am sick and tired of 'supporting' these people. I tire of increases in the 'minimum' wage and concessions for low to middle income workers when people who earn a lot of money because they bust their ass to do it and are motivated to do so get squat. I am sick and tired of people who tell me that a Ford or Expensive Daewoo is a 'sh*t' car when they dont have a car themselves, or drive a 95 Hyundai Excel. I am sick of people who tell me how sh*thouse the law, politicians, everyting is, but can't explain why. Mostr of all I am sick and tired of the attitude that permiates society, the lack of respect for other people property. Why would you spit on a nice car. If I had've caught the guy I would have flogged 10 parts of p*ss out of him before wiping up the spittle with what was left of his face, but why should that sort of disrespect happen in the first place. Society, as a whole, has gone to the dogs. When they start introducing gated communities into my town, that have security and a segregation policy that keeps booners, westies, bogans out, I will be one of the first to move in. .......aaaaaahhhhhh !! that's better

Its only a football game ! Lets remember that we sold the rights to so many things we called sacred years ago to places like McDonalds or KFC. Its the Anzac weekend Rugby League Test. I wouldve thought it was obvious. I'd hardly call it raping anything. Relax a bit. The proletariat arent supposed to have an opinion Peace out

I saw him a few weeks ago. I pulled up next to him at a set of lights and pissed myself laughing. When he asked me why I was laughing I told the barely 18yo that the next naked 'babe' he would see would be his first.........hee hee

I have sat on my hands for long enough. 'Fruit of the poison tree' = Law and Order = US TV drama = not real life 'Reasonable grounds' = reasonable grounds to SUSPECT = very little depending on circumstances though; and finally This is what the law in Australia actually IS in relation to 'illegal' searches: Evidence illegally obtained will be admissible if the public interest outweighs the rights of the individual....again not very hard to substantiate when things like drugs or a radar detector are found. Now....about them radar detectors.....the original topic of discussion (whilst I refer to my original blurb many months ago regarding thread hijackers)

Apple Ipod Thread (Merged Topic)

I'm looking to buy an Apple iPod and would love to hear from some people who have one about how good/bad they are -
Trouble with those studies is that I can find a couple that would find the contrary. Studies are VERY heavily influenced by who's paying for them, and what they are looking to prove

If you get some good info on MP3 stuff and adapting the iPod for home stereo use can you post it here ? I have read some good stuff and am in the process of download all my CD's onto the computer so I can transfer it into an iPod (as soon as I buy one !!). Apparently the iPod is easily adaptable for home stereo usage Ta

Same here. Loved the original version. Very few ripped off songs do it for me these days. Though there's been a few that were better than the orig. I guess we're both getting old VG. Indeed
