My 2c worth. I weighed up the pros and cons of everything I could and have just brought myself a brand new Loewe Mimo 32 CRT TV. I decided against the plasma and LCDs because of one reason, cost. Make that 2 reasons, the second being picture quality. As much as people go on about it, the best picture I saw still came from a CRT TV, the one I bought. I paid $3300 for it and it came with a Strong Digital box. Before buying a big screen you should really think about your room size and how far away from the TV you'll be. If your close to a big TV you break your neck turning back and forth to watch the action. Loewe is a German brand and the Mimo 32 is absolutely top quality. So much better made than the generic Jap stuff. Evrything in the TV goes in via SCART so all the picture etc is great. It has a great pair of internal speakers so I have dispensed with the home theatre idea, as it is pointless unless you spend 1/2 your life in front of it. Save your money and go to the movies if you want that sort of sound quality. You will only get this sort of TV from a hi-fi shop, so go and see someone at one of those places, not Harvey Norman or the like, to get some proper advice. For my stereo I now attach my iPod to a set of JBL Creature speakers. Lokks funky and I dont have to hunt around for CDs all the time, as my entire collection is held in the 40 Gb iPod

Lighten up VG and get over your paranoia - the guy tells his personal experience, nothing wrong with that. I didn't see him bashing any coppers - just the NSW ones. But hey, Plonky did that too so is he a cop basher as well? Paranoia ? Twit ! Look who has the support. Plonky's comments are measured and make sense. This is why most coppers dont bother with this forum anymore. What do you do for a living. Have you busted your ass for the public, both here and o/s for the last 15 years. Have you been hit, spat on, shot at, and abused daily. If you have then we'll start ripping it out of yor job. The problem with forum that involve cars is there are way to many yobs or, as we refer to them here, booners, who like to tell us all about their problems with the Police which could have been avaoided if they either (a) shut their smart mouths (as per the truckies post) or (b) didnt do something wrong in the first place. Our society is at such a point nowadays that we get abused when we arrest someone for drink driving when they can hardly stand, like its our fault. Its hardly paranoia, far from it in fact. Its called pride in what I do. We arent gods, we dont deserve people bowing and scraping to us, we are just normal people doing an abnormal job. People expect absolute perfection from us ALL the time, when no one else in any workplace delivers it. Maybe people should consider that before they shoot their ill-informed mouths off. Like I have said many times before, I see no other job cop it like the Police on this forum. Everyone seems to have their little problems with them. I have mates who never interact with the Police because they dont do anything wrong, there a message in that
-
But no, you wouldnt generalise now, would you ? Imagine the opinion those same coppers had about truck drivers Once again another thread denigrates into Police bashing
-
and ........as a former police marksman I've seen plenty of gun club clowns that wouldnt know their ass from their elbow, and they practice more than the coppers get to
-
you will find that points are consistent across all states that have adopted the australian road rules
-
Best way I've found to lose weight is to have someone break your jaw for you. A few months eating through a straw and it goes out the same consistency it went in !! I wouldnt go out and do it on purpose though .........or alternatively take up long distance triathlons at a semi pro level. Eat whatever you want, whenever you want, and as much as you like. Just have to train 40hrs/week on top of your normal work, but that's a small price to pay....isnt it ??

I have deleted my own post after putting something stupid in it

From what I have seen and heard I no longer trust they will do a proper job, not that I ever did. I will get onto my insurance company and have it treated like an accident with them as the 'at fault' party. Being as they were supposed to be fixing it up they have obviously accepted liability. I will have a proper spray paint shop like Scott Wilesmith fix it up, like they did with the last little ding Watch this space, this could be interesting. Gregory's, here I come from now on
-
nah....the french maid's
-
They are giving me a courtesy car but I will be ringing them tomorrow to make sure exactly what they are doing to the car. If it isnt a total respray they will be hearing from my solicitors and Leaseplan. I will be going to Gregory's for everything now. I would've gotten the car from them but JMG are the preferred dealer in Canberra for Leaseplan. When I drop the car off in uniform on Monday morning they will get the hint

Don't use John McGrath Ford at Belconnen in the ACT. I took the T in for it's 30K service and when I went to pick it up there were chips in the paint all down one side. They were doing building refurbishment and some clown had been throwing stuff down off the roof next to my car. They tried to deny everything but now they are respraying the car. They were useless when I bought the car, useless in their after sales service, and now, to top it off, negligent in the treatment of my car whilst in their care. I could not recommend them any less to anyone, they are pathetic. Once the respray is done I will be going elsewhere

Thanks Lumpen. I would also like to add that on a professional level I treated many AG infantrymen who were being primed up for the Olympic Games Security and the at that time probable WTO riots, so my info doesn't come from the tabloids VG. I didn't hijack my own thread either I re-expressed an opinion If you didnt hijack your own post but re-expressed an opinion, when did u originally express this opinion "It's the points and the big bro attitude of the govt that urks me about all this, I'd happily pay fines all day long if I considered them to be just. Interesting point to note is that little Johnny and his mob of Cronies have passed more anti-freedom laws in this country since they camr into power, than what Hitler did after he conned everybody by burning down the Reisthag and blaming another militant out of control party . American flag anybody ? " How do you justify leaping from the $50 fine rant to talking the other rubbish. Re-expressing an opinion my ar*e, to re-express something you have to express it in the first place I was one of the tactical people involved in the Olympic security. Your rhetoric is straight out of the mouths of some of the JJJ clowns or 'alternate' media, nothing to do with the cold, hard facts of reality. Start a new thread if you wanna go on with that rubbish. Now.....back to the topic of the thread....what was it again ?

I was out training on the treadly this morning and I saw a nice black van in Gungahlin with 'CroTV' on the side....was that you ?

 I don't support the greens or Pauline Hanson or any left wing parties at all for that matter VG. If you think social separation and the erosion of individual rights isn't happening in this country, well that's your ipinion and I have mine. If everything is so fine what is causing all the dissent perhaps its lying Governments. I suppose the "Children Overboard' thing didn't really happen, and as John Howard said on TV the other night "David Hicks reallyy did thank his Yank jailers for being so nice to him during detention at Guantamino bay. Oh and I guess our Howard appointed mates (the Yanks) didn't harm anyone in that Iraqui torture chamber, (opps I mean prison). No VG nobodies rights are being eroded in Austraia, no way . I didn't think it was possible but someone has managed to hijack their OWN post. This started off about $50 plate fines and now we have been taken towards discussing so-called 'anti-freedom' laws. If your going to start quoting whatever is happening in contemporary Australia, its best not to get your information from tabloid journalism. Point out how your 'rights' have been affected and you may get some sympathy. I work for the organisation that has all the powers under these so-called 'eroding' laws so suffice to say I know a little bit more about it than some. Lets just say the rights of the every day man in the street have not been affected one iota. You wont get that info from reading a daily rag or watching network news. I'd suggest its time for the mods to wrap this up. Some of us are trying to stay on track, others should either line up at the next Socialist Alliance meeting singing the Internationale, or just discuss the topic

"Interesting point to note is that little Johnny and his mob of Cronies have passed more anti-freedom laws in this country since they camr into power, than what Hitler did after he conned everybody by burning down the Reisthag and blaming another militant out of control party . American flag anybody ? " How did we get to this point and how does it relate to a traffic situation ?What you have stated above is not only factually untrue but illogical. Most of what Hitler and his Nazi mates did bore no relation to any laws they had in their country at the time, they just did what they wanted. Also explain how these 'anti-freedom' laws have affected you or anyone you know as an individual? Its not like you have been banned from owning property or possessing citizenship because you are Jewish (which is what happened in Hitler's times). What a load of left-wing idealogical clap-trap ! What is written in Green Left Weekly should be filed under 'fiction' at the library

Forget the Tahs and the Reds my friend. Go the Brumbies ! Once Andy Johns signs to Union next year there wont be a reason to watch the League. I agree with Plonky. Too much money, too much fame, too much hype. League will soon be on its last legs. I love the game but, until Willie's contract becomes history and he is sent back to finish Yr10, I have no respect for the players, some of the older guys like Tallis, Webcke, Johns and Lockyer aside

Happens to me all the time mate. People suddenly wanna turn it into the V8 Supercars just because I am anywhere near them. These pieces of crap are driven by jealous and ignorant morons. Last clown who pulled that sort of dangerous rubbish with me ended up with $800 worth of fines. Shame we can't all do that

If your talking about the rights of the public to record Police then I guess there's nothing stopping you if you are protecting your 'lawful' interests. Mind you its easy for us to explain why we would carry a tapre recorder around with us while we're at work, be hard for a punter to explain unless they are using their phone with short voice record on it. In the end anyway we dont really use the tapes for evidence. The fact that you were speeding generally is enough. They are used to CYA for when people make bogus complaints. Nothing better than them allegging you said or did certain things, and you having the tape to prove it aint so. Also prevents a lot of peanuts from having a dig in the 1st place, when they know that they will be the one's caught out as liars. P.S. We also have in car video in Canberra now. The tape starts recording when the flashing lights get turned on and (and I dont know how it does this so dont ask) the 30secs prior to the lights getting turned on. date/time/place and speed are also displayed. Great piece of kit

Section 3(b)(I) of our Listening Devices Act, which I know is different to NSW as my bro was a NSW Copper for 10 years before he laterally came over to the AFP, allows me to record a conversation without the consent or knowledge of the other party in order to protect my lawful interests. In the ACT 'lawful interests' have been held to be protecting myself against vexatious complaints, or using it for contemporaneous notes for a later brief of evidence. With that in mind, there in nothing stopping someone, in the ACT, recording me to protect their 'lawful interests'. I have had it done and it really achieves nothing for them and rarely if ever gets used in evidence as, if you do the right thing all along, their tape helps rather than hinders you. Plonky my friend, in this instance, as it relates to the ACT, you unfortunately are mistaken, but it is the ACT I am talking about, not NSW, I know you are different there and this is probably the ONLY law we have here that is as good as NSW law. Having said all that I predicate my taped conversations with 'this conversation is being recorded' to show some fairness. Hypno, if you are happy with the result, then I am happy for you

This is what we use here in the ACT Section 4(3)(I) allows us to record a conversation without the other parties consent to protect our lawful interests. It is also the most accurate record you can possibly take of an interaction with Police and, like Curious, we are often commended for it. It is stock standard procedure for Traffic Police to record conversations nowadays as well LISTENING DEVICES ACT 1992 - SECT 4 Use of listening devices (1) A person shall not use, or cause to be used, a listening device— (a) to listen to or to record a private conversation to which the person is not a party; or (b) to record a private conversation to which the person is a party. Maximum penalty: 50 penalty units. (2) Subsection (1) does not apply to— (a) the use of a listening device under an authority granted by or under a law of the Commonwealth; or (b) the unintentional hearing of a private conversation by means of a listening device. (3) Subsection (1) (b) does not apply to the use of a listening device by, or on behalf of, a party to a private conversation if— (a) each principal party to the conversation consents to that use of the listening device; or (b) a principal party to the conversation consents to the listening device being so used, and— (I) the recording of the conversation is considered by that principal party, on reasonable grounds, to be necessary for the protection of that principal party's lawful interests; or (ii) the recording is not made for the purpose of communicating or publishing the conversation, or a report of the conversation, to any person who is not a party to the conversation. (4) Subsection (3) (b) (I) does not apply so as to exempt a person from the application of subsection (1) if the relevant listening device is used by or on behalf of the Territory

I hold a hand-held tape recorder in front of people. Section 4 of the Listening Devices Act (ACT) gives me the power to do so. If I really was that way inclined I could stick the recorder in my jacket so people can't see it (the law still permits it in order to protect my legal interests). People often bullsh*t when making complaints about being pulled over, showing the tape player certainly dries that up. The judge is wrong, well in this jurisdiction he is. The evidence produced by a tape recording is admissible for traffic offences, as they are one's of 'strict' liability. I'm a bit with Curious, I fail to see how you won when you got convicted and fined. I think the copper actually won as any comments/criticisms delivered to us by Magistrates are generally water off a ducks back. I'm sure that the copper in question would consider it a win and hardly feels as though any damage has been done to his ego. It was a successful conviction for him. A verbal 'slapping' from a magistrate? Trust me....its a daily occurence for Police and something that doesnt concern us in the least, as we are well aware how remotely they exist from community standards, particularly where I come from Again, as with Curious, no hard feelings at all. I have lost a few in Court but if this was me I would've enjoyed the overtime that I would've been paid to go to Court, ignored whatever the beak said, felt happy with the 'win', and moved on. A win for you would have been getting off and having costs awarded to you. But, if it makes you happy, then well done

its silly anywhere yes, but definatly on a highway like the m5, the amount of traffic, merging traffic, small spaces to get into and around etc. and with you saying its not safe on open country roads to speed, saying there is no fences? how do you think the farmers keep thier stock out of another farmers stock? fences and yes I know some stock get out of thier little "habitat" but they rarely go out onto the road... And kangaroos don't ?

I'll let you, but first you have to admit it's your CD playing on the stereo!

You can complain to the coppers but unless you have something other than just your word (I.e. witnesses or even the video evidence) then there's nothing that can be done if he denies the offence. You say one thing, he says another and never the twain shall meet if you know what I mean. Having said all that I have booked road ragers and they paid the fines so I guess that was just lucky. To go to Court with something we need to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt. One person's word against another, without something independent of their opinions, isnt enough for that. Sometimes the best thing to do is slow down, pull back, and let them kill themselves. If it is really bad I would report it to a Police station, but you may end up disappointed. Give it a shot though (I can feel the daggers from my Police brethren in the front office right now!!)
