Good thing about fttn is telstra and their original copper design as they put pits,mdf pillars everywhere so most houses are within 400mtrs of the a node which is why there is no problems getting the 100mb on it.
I dont see a problem with fttn except the copper its self as its no longer being replaced so eventually they will have to redesign the NBN network again.

im allowed to be dyslexic on occasion. been a while since I did my I.t engineering crap but yep 8:1 ratio. Old windows dialup days you could go into the settings and change retrieval bits or force it to receive 4bits over 8 etc but it would depend on carrier to whether you got any sort of benefit from it (which was never)
yep. 100MB (megabyte) not 100Mb (megabit)
internet works in byte and bit and to the power of 8 in transfer rate. hence why a 512KB adsl gets a 64Kb transfer speed (maximum) add overheads etc to each packet of course will lower overall speed
