Hello young man, it’s been a while since we last spoke. Are you trying to tell me that you were serious going to buy a GT and are now backing out because of the potential drive line shunt? Something even yourself admits is a lottery. These cars are bloody fantastic and the shunt is unfortunate, but it’s not affecting all of them and if the car you want is there to drive, try it first, take it for a weekend and see for yourself. If its not apparent straight away in most cases it will never be. I have an BAXR8 with no shunt and it’s a dream to drive in all respects. If it doesn't have the shunt it will be a fantastic car to add to your collection. What are you waiting for and stop procrastinating? Cheers, Colville

Hi Simon, FPV said that the fix is a few months away. Ok, so it's not instant, but it's still a commitment don't you think? Has the car being doing the shunt thing since new? Can I ask if you love the car besides the shunt or are there other issues? You keep referring to it as a POS, which I would have thought is a bit harsh don't you think. I know it’s a $60+ car and should not have this problem, but in perspective the shunt is coming from a part worth less than 2% of the cars original value. Sorry mate, I really empathise with you, I really do, but to class a car like a GT as a total POS because your diff has been poorly set up sounds like it's coming from someone that hates the rest of the car as well. If that’s the case then so be it. I agree this situation is NOT ideal, not at all, but if you love the car and it's only the shunt that is concerning you why not hold on for a month or two. Imagine what it would be like when fixed? Cheers, Colville

The G220 sounds great AUIIIXR6VCT, can't wait to see some pictures. Don't worry about the performance digs mate the 220 has alot of bolt on potenial and there not a bad giggler in standard trim either.

That looks fantastic PHNTUM, well done!

Happy Brithday my friend!! May your new GT act as a sign of more good things to come. Cheers, Colville

Love it, but the bonnet thing looks silly. Trying way too hard when its not required. I think the car is around 300kw at the rears, not flywheel. The engine is not stock and has different cams and headwork from what I am lead to believe. Herrod were very involved with its development.

See good points on both sides. Some excellent discussion fellas! Like everything else criticism is only bad if you can’t learn from it. lan, I tend to agree with you on the Dunlop issue based on some of my own experience. I would be very interested to see how well an XR or GT would perform with another brand of performance tyre. I know the Dunlop’s apparently give the car the best ‘balance’ in all area’s, but I would love to see these cars on a strictly performance biased tyre like the Bridgestone’s on many HSV’s.

No surprises there IMO. Dispite the fact that the Cubbie is a few10th's faster in manual form, the GT is clearly a better car all round. If the the comparo was based on both cars in Auto form the GT would be a mile ahead.

Many happy returns Mate! November 69 was obvoiusly a good time. Cheers, Colville

My house is also paid off, but the little woman still keeps on finding things to keep the GT out of my garage You partner must be more supportive of your car habbits..lol

The GT is a bargain compared to the XR8 when you consider for your $8700 extra you get; - 30kw + with great lowdown torque and a menacing exhaust note - Premium brakes - 5x18" alloys - Side airbags - Awesome handling/ride compromise - Wild bodykit - Better seating materials and finish - Heritage and hopefully better resale - A bit of exlusivity and the best looking Aussie made car ever (IMO of course B) ) Lots of trivial things that make the car a better package. Totally agree Mondie, I'd normally love an XR8 and it's a lovely car, but with the GT around it's very hard to justify if your a V8 nut. Where the XR8 comes in handy is when you are buying for keeps and want to supercharger without worrying about heritage. For the similar money as a GT you get a wild 400kw car. You could of course do the same to a GT but; 1) Kiss resales and heritage out the window 2) FPV will not want to ever know you again 3) The cars power is 'almost' good enough not to worry about Supercharging it for road use. 4) Your GT is now a $70k+ car. GT-P anyone?

Sorry Redhawk, The article actually states that FPV’s new 6 speed is believed NOT to be the same 'clunky-but-strong' unit in the Expensive Daewoo and HSV V8's. Bloody awesome times for the 285 Clubbie. To this day, MOTOR have never got a good time from a GT with 13.9 their best. I don't understand why when many non-professional drivers have achieved as low as 13.7 for stocky units and that was in an auto!

Dealers base most trade in values on 22% depreciation on the RRP+ on roads over 12 months. For example if your XR6T cost $50k new on road, your trade in value over 6 to 12 months will be around $39k. You will get more privately (around $42k-$44k mark). This 22% depreciation is what most Government Fleet buyers use as a guide. Hope this helps. Cheers Colville

I would want the GTP, but I would buy the GT. Black with silver stripes. The GT has everything I value short term without the 'P', however if I were keeping it long term the GT-P would be the one. Confused?? I am..lol

Beautiful!!! Just the way I would order a GT. Have you lowered it? Although it doesn't appear ultra low, to it sits well from the pictures. Like the Bembro!! Well done, Colville

I guys, I'm from Adeliade also and a member obvoiusly, but do not have an XR6T..yet. Still undecided, but that's what I come here for! Cheers, Colville

ok, my thoughts for series 2... 220BA models = 230kW with improved gearing XR6T = 240kw- 250kW, however with new XR8 5 speed box. Auto will be the same as current. XR8 + 270kw with improved torque spread and gearing. GT + 300kw with improved gearing Average weight reduction over the entire range will be around 50kg. V8 BOSS models may get alloy blocks. XR6T will have bonnet flutes and the name will be modified to XR6T rather than Turbo and come standard with 18". The XR8 will also come standard with 18". Finally, the XR6T will increase in cost to around $48k.

Look What's Coming Home With Me Tomorrow.

That car just looks beautiful. I think you just sold me on aftermarket rims and black duco  Is the car a turbo and lowered? -
BS 888, It looks great my friend, well done. May I ask what happened to the other 19"s? It will be hard letting go of the XY. I had a 400hp XBGT when I got the XR8. I loved the XR, but the GT just gave me a different kinda pleasure... Cheers,

Well I don't own a XR yet, but my plates are WWW

Hey Bazza, Always admired your car, well done. I too have a soft spot for the XTv8 with a bit of a tweak Haven't discounted having one of these myself yet. Have you considered colour coding the side body strips and mirrors? That's about the only thing I do not like about the XT's except if you order a black one of course. I think your rear spoiler will look ok due to the colour of your car (Acid Rush). Sometimes these things are worth while doing anyway to keeping the peace (if you know what I mean :nugget: ) In your opinion, how do you think she (the XT) would hold up compared to an SV8 in modified form? (e.g. exhaust and suspension). To compare it otherwise would be unfair IMO as the SV8 has these features from factory. I also know that Rob (Herrod) claims a 15-20rwkW gain from the full exhaust changeover on the Barra 220. With those gains a stock XR8's 260 would be fair game if it was not for the higher rev limiter. I've noticed 'BOF' over on FF bagging the BA 220 at every opportunuity, claiming this car/engine combo is a slug. I for one certainly do not agree and would like to see him take a ride in yours by the sounds of it. Cheers, Colville

I notice that this chip has addressed the initial 'lag' in the lower rpm. That's worth it alone. A conservative estimate of 275kW (219rwkW) XR6T, which besides the Unichip is otherwise stock standard is very, very promising. Simply add a 'cats back' exhaust upgrade and your close to 290kW at the fly.!!! That's one hell of a performance for a $44k car with a $3500k upgrade. (est. $2000 exhaust/$1500 Unichip) As for factory warranty, it's a risk for sure, but their are ways of better managing this element. I would find a Ford dealer you feel comfortable with that understands and has a history with Ford performance modifications to client cars. When purchasing your new car get them to arrange the Unichip/exhaust for you as part of their sales package and their own extended dealer warranty. This way, when your car is serviced, they are familiar with it and it's in their interest to look after you. If there are drive train warranty claims in future, they should be your best bet in having it addressed either on the factory or dealer warranty. Their is still a risk of course, but in my opinion a more manageable one. You may pay a little more, but it's worth it.

 mmm, interesting. Combine that with the turbo and Ford may have something there. HOT GAS...wonder what that would smell like

Well there you go...

The BA XT's comes with a smaller rear spoiler if optioned plus there is a 'High Rise' version as well. This may look simiar to the XR's. I love the XR's of course, however I also like the XT, lowered with 17" and a 220 V8. Wouldn't go the spoilers myself, any of them. I'd rather up the wheel size, colour code and modify the exhaust. Money better spent than body kits for this car IMO:thumbsup:
