  1. Alternators and air con compressors don't like 7500 rpm. Hence why I instslled an under drive balancer.
  2. Bigger the exhaust the better. Unlike n/a engines, after exhausts turbo do not require back pressure. The back pressure is between the exhaust wheel and the exhaust valve... There are big gains to be had here....
  3. He's had the car for some time and I guess that it's time to move on. He also has a few Hardtops so it's not like he doesn't have a ride anymore. Lucky bugger....
  4. Spoke to Daryn the other day. He said that the car will soon be up for sale. It is still one of, if not the most advanced Barra's in the land. Here's a screen pic of its last tune... And it's still got more in it....

Me too. I'm worried that I'll wear the thread out in the block if I keep this up.... It will be fun to drive it for a change.

Pulled the box out today. We found this... Four of the remaining five bolts were loose. Luckily we had very little metal transfer from the crank to the flywheel. We filed the crank surface and machined the mounting face on the flywheel, just to ensure a flat clean surface. We did notice that there is only around 1.5 mm of tread left for flywheel clamp and we are a little concerned by this. We pondered the cause of the bolt failures and we surmise that the failures are as a result of the bolts high tensile grade having a negative impact on the shear strength of the bolts. We have doweled the crank and flywheel and are now considering a lower grade bolt. We are also considering drilling the crank for finer thread 7/16 bolts ... In closing, I'd just like to say thanks to Ozzy for his act of kindness, in loan of his dowel jig. You are awesome !! Some beers are coming your way...
  7. To be completely honest, I have seen one failure. Steve Capuzzo's 1200hp Falcon took all of the teeth off 5th gear when he was in the powerskid comp at Powercruise a few years ago... But you can hardly blame the box in this instance..
  8. Same magnum as mine. Hasn't changed since Spiro had it..
  9. Manual is WAY more fun and can handle everything that we can throw at it. The last time that I spoke to Daryn's (Formerly Spiro's car), he had 1524 rwhp with still more left it it. His magnum has survived so far.... So no problems with box failures.

I had the car on the hub dyno a fortnight ago. We managed 670 rwhp on 18 psi (98 Ron), with no real timing added. We had to pull up there as the dyno was having issues. We were doing full power runs and the eddy brake would intermittently come on hard, sometimes stopping the engine dead. Even made the turbo spool backwards.... I have to say that this speaks volumes for the quality of Mal Woods tailshaft and The Driveline Shop Cv's... I took the car for a drive out to the worksop today and gave it a few squirts on the way. It now looks like I have again snapped some ARP flywheel bolts, as the clutch loss has the same characteristics as last time. Resevior is full of fluid, just won't engage the CSC properly.. So, It looks like I will remove the box, AGAIN!!! And we'll look at dowling the crank this time round..

Shifter is now working fine. I ended up removing the box and sending it to him. He said that the gate in then Magnum was a bit different and required the cams in the shifter to be modified. The shifter that I have now has a shorter handle that the previous one. I actually like it better, as the strain gauge made the knob a bit high for my liking.
  12. I see that the factory FG coil covers don't have a seal either... This surprised me somewhat.. I have plans for a carbon fiber cover for my car, when I get time...
  13. I guess that we can close the thread now.
  14. So, Has everyone received their housings?
  15. They are the same orientation as the factory housings. I have a Plazzy race series plenum and it has no clearance issues. I can't speak for other brands and varients...
  16. @Keith, could you please provide some advice?
  17. Does the thickness of the radiator reduce clearance between the fans and the front of the engine? Or does it transfer towards the front of the car? Only asking, as I have limited room even with the standard radiator..
  18. Housings have been sent by Express Post. I will private message those involved with the buy, with the tracking numbers.
  19. As far as I know, the Mal Wood shifter does not have a spring. The Magnum's have a detent spring, which is a sealed unit that screws into the R/H side on the gearbox. It is this spring that gives you resistance and gate pressure. I think that the difference in the height of the shifters that you're using, is affecting the leverage on the detent spring and using less resistance to push through it... See link for a pic of a dentent spring Detent spring
  20. You will have to get the block sonic tested to verify wall thickness. Every block should be done prior to machining, as number one cylinder suffers from bore shift. I'm currently building a spare and got one good block out of three. The minimum bore thickness we encountered was 0.060", which is obviously very thin. If you have a reasonable block, you can also offset bore individual cylinders to keep as much meat in there as you can. The minimum thickness in this new block is 0.120". I hope that this helps. Cylinder Front Rear Left Right 1 0.155" 0.135" 0.230" 0.220" 2 0.165" 0.135" 0.180" 0.230" 3 0.130" 0.160" 0.180" 0.230" 4 0.130" 0.130" 0.230" 0.245" 5 0.155" 0.130" 0.180" 0.230" 6 0.250" 0.130" 0.170" 0.240"
  21. A small update. All freight information has been sent to Hammond Engineering. He said that he had a personal issue that has put him back 24 hours, and that he'll forward some pictures soon. I'll post them as soon as they are received. Brad
  22. Inbox has been cleaned. I have Ozy's and Espoig's address. Just need Tazzanz. Thanks
  23. Jusy got a message from Hammond Engineering. Housings should be finished tomorrow. Please forward (pm me) your address if you haven't already. So excited.....
  24. You won't regret making the leap. The ease of use and the fact that you can live tune, makes it worth while. Let alone all of the additional hardware/software that can be utilised...

Thanks for the kind words on the carbon. It's take me a bit to get my head around successfully manufacturing parts. I'm confident that I have it sorted, so I shall endeavor to make bigger, more complex parts in the near future.. It's just so beautiful and the pics don't do them justice. I'm hooked on the stuff. It's l;ikely that I'll have carbon everything soon.... Yes, the box is a magnum. which was supplied by Mal Wood. Interestingly, me engine guy walked past the box and said that the output shaft looked considerable bigger than normal, much like, if not the same as a TH400. Sometimes it sucks trying different things to what others use, as you run in to issues like mine.. No real difference between it and everything else I have done... I guess that I'm mellowing as I age, or just used to it occurring with frequency... Lol The discrepancy on the gate was negligible, when using a normal H patter shifter. It was a little different to the OEM gearboxes supplied for the Falcons, after all it is aftermarket item. I can't say that I would have anything to do with Mal...
