I have been very busy of late, so not much has changed. I'm waiting on Strecchlon (Vacuum form plastic) to arrive, so that I can skin some carbon onto the dash spears and console parts. Here is a pic of a spear that has been prepped for skinning. I have made the mould for the DJR320 front splitter, so it will be made soon. I managed to find some time yesterday to fit the BF tail lights and the new rear bar. I apologise for the quality of the pic.

Barra intake manifols - Back to back testing
HI PSI replied to HI PSI's topic in Fuel System & Induction Workshop
Don't worry bud. Old mate's new plenum is greatly different from anything that we currently have on offer. :D I just reread his post. Thank you for pointing it out. :D We would be more than happy to add your manifold to the list.. I will contact you when when we are closer to performing the testing. Cheers :D -

Barra intake manifols - Back to back testing

Unfortunately, I can only speak of my own personal experience. My Plazzy race series is absolutely fantastic with normal everyday driving. As we only have a base map in it ( more road tuning on Sat), I expect that it will only get better. Have you tuned many Jet? The majority that I know with Hypertune's ect. All have big cams and vernier gears. I'm guessing that drivability isn't a concern for those guys. .. I agree and we will now be doing 20 psi and and one much higher. I think that the test mule will be running a gtx55 turbo, so we might stretch its legs a little.... -

Exactly the kind of feedback that I was after... Thanks JET. We debated the boost parameters and we thought that by running gate pressure, that we would eliminate any preconceptions that the testing could be manipulated or tampered.. From what I gather, the test engine will be running a very big turbo, so your suggestion of more boost might highlight any abnormalities. -

I am very interested in the results also. It will likely stir up a hornets nest though. that's why we wanted to allow people to view the methodology and request changes... Thanks for the offer, but I cannot foresee any changes to the current testing format. -
In all honesty, I just don't think that people are interested. My build thread had very few members (almost always the same people) actually ask questions about what I was doing and why. I really felt like I was talking to myself most of the time. So I pretty much gave up...

Barra intake manifols - Back to back testing

I doubt that the B series will be tested, as the FG is the better of the two... -
I have recently been made aware, of the development of a new intake manifold for our beloved Barra's. Development is well advanced, with a 3D printing version (PLA) being scheduled for completion next week. This is to ensure correct fitment, prior to the first units being manufactured. Manufacturing will commence as soon as practicable... During my conversations with the developer, I managed to convinced him to do back to back testing of all the aftermarket (And standard FG) intake manifolds. Despite great costs involved, he has kindly offered to share the results with the community once completed. In saying that, he wants to ensure that the testing will result in accurate and irrefutable data. Currently, the following brands/models will be tested: Hypertune Plazmaman Race series Plazmaman XR6 plenum Process West plenum, and FG Xr6t plenum. * We would greatly appreciate a loan of a Nizpro manifold.. As we would like to add it to the list. If that helps ease the mind of potential sources, please know that I am loaning my Plazmaman race series plenum for testing.... To ensure accuracy, testing will be carried out on an engine dyno, as this will be easiest and fastest method of changing the manifolds. It will also ensure that there are no disputes regarding dyno ramp rates and ensure that tyre slippage is eliminated. A Motec EMS will be used, with EGT's fitted to each exhaust runner, to monitor individual cylinder temperature (All data logged). An air temperature sensor will be fitted to the cold side of the intercooler piping and logged. Cam, ignition advance and fuel pressure will be set and not modified for the duration of the testing (logged also). Boost will be gate pressure only. Given that each manifold will have varying efficiency, only the base fuel map will be modified to achieve the correct target AFR, for all manifold testing. Injectors will be batch fired with zero trim and other than some minor intercooler piping changes, nothing else will be changed....... All data will be logged, correlated and screenshots uploaded for all to see. We think that we have come up with a fair and unbiased testing methodology, but we would like input on areas that may be improved.

Definately a must any turbo charged Falcon. I took my wiring guy for a drive the other day and he was amazed at how quiet the car was. All this with the added security of having to never remove the IRS cradle again. Love live IMS, ya bloody legends !!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
I used a standard Factory Ford head gasket. No problems here.......

Wouldn't mounting it (Sensor) into the cold side intercooler piping be more effective ? -
We fixed the DBW, it turns out that we had made an error with the wiring. We were going to hit the dyno last Saturday, but the alternator decided not to play ball.. So that was canned. The car is now at home, so I'm giving it a bit of love and finishing and changing some of the cosmetics.

That is Daryn's car and formerly Spiro's..... It's an old video, all before he had the dramas with TBRE. I wonder who put it up ????? As I definitely wasn't Daryn...

Sorry. I have been a bit busy of late. The bell housing and box were completed and installed into a 670 Bhp turbo wagon. The turbo was replaced at the same time due to a failure. The car went to Dave Sheehy in Mackay and only managed 3 power runs before the turbo failed again. The car managed 580 rwhp with 1835 nm of torque and it was still a way off being maxed out. The only down side that we had (Besides the turbo failure), was that the stall flared a bit ore than we anticipated. The box and bellhousing worked fine. The wagon has now been been gutted and the combo is being transplanted into Kent battle's old ute. The stall has been sent away and much bigger turbo is being fitted to the engine. Watch this space, as there will be some good times coming out of this car....

Gaz, have you thought about changing the heat range of your plugs. I just installed some new plugs myself and went for an equivalent of a NGK heat range 9 plug.... BTW, there are far better plugs out there than the NGK's...

CDI was about the same price as my pistons. Not much in the scheme of things. We'll end up with around 40 psi and I'm sure that they are more than capable of more.... I am absolutely loving it. It has a very user friendly interface and more features that what I know what to do with.. I am learning more and more with each passing week. The real beauty of the EMS is live tuning and the speed at which the car can be tuned. On occasions, the EMS has needed to be rest and we can do this quite easily and not even have to stop driving. We were meant to hit the dyno last Saturday, but my tuner was severely fatigued and couldn't make it. We're looking at finishing the 98 by road tuning and then heading to Harvey Bay for to use a hub dyno for the E85.

The Haltech instructions (CDI) specify 0.6. Also, I am running a little bit more boost than normal......

0.6mm is what I run. Any wider and the spark was getting blown out....

The teflon in that style of hose is slightly thicker and touch stiffer than the Speedflow. This makes it difficult to get the fitting to slide down the hose. Here are some tips for you...... 1. When you install the collar, you have to remove the protruding edge on the inside. You'll know what I mean when you go to do it. I did this by inserting a blade of a pair of scissors and turning it. 2. Place the hose through the vertical slot in a set of Speedflow alloy vice jaws and close them until the tapered section of the collar contact the jaws. Whatever you do, do not clamp the hose... Get a straight fitting and remove the square edge from the section that goes into the collar. Lubricate the section after doing this and then insert the fitting into the hose and tap it with a piece of timber ( Or use a hammer on the timber). This is required as it takes some force to get the fitting to slide into the hose/collar. Do this for all of the hose sections that requires fittings and simply pull the straight fittng out and replace with a bend if required. They come out relatively easy.... Good luck... Not that you'll need it... -
Thanks, but he's going bigger.

That teflon hose is a pain in the arse. You'll have mega fun installing the fittings. -
Old mate that we built the box for hit Dave Sheehy's rollers last Wednesday. He has changed his turbo configuration so that he could pull some real power out of it. Unfortunately, his turbo seized on the third run, but he still managed 525 hp with 1816 nm of torque. Suprisingly, Dave said that this is the highest torque levels that he has ever had out of a Barra. The box ran perfectly. but the stall (3,500 rpm) flared a bit more than we expected (6,000 rpm). Obviously, he couldn't complete the tune and I believe that he's now looking at going bigger again...
