what plugs have you found? im still trying to find a cost effective interface
-
I'm interested in doing the OBD and have been doing heaps of research on it. Unfortunately this field is beyond me so I have to rely on others, so your proposal sounds great - what's the details?Panda ← The trick is finding a cheap way to access the can bus. Found an adaptor on ebay for around $200 and another one locally for around $400. Plan is to build a cheap low power mini-itx computer system that will connect to the can bus of the car and monitor what every the user wishes to. Abit of fiber glass and a cheap ps1 screen and all done. just need to get my hands on the cable to do the testing of the software. the in car computer is the easy part. will probably run a simple linux install or maybe even dos. will boot very fast. Im a programmer so the interface shouldnt be too much of a problem at all. in afew weeks im going to see a demo of the $400 can kit. but for people to want to use what im trying to create I need to keep costs down as much as possable. BTW if this does work as I hope I wont be selling it. I will simply put every thing on a web site so every one can benifit. I might even organise some of the lcd mounts to be made up. estimated cost so far. ITX MB 185 - 235 power supply 120-160 ram aprox 50 interface cable 200 - 400 storage/hdd 80 screen hopefully around $100 then what ever it cost to mount it. Software will be free

not selling T any more so atm im concentrating on the extra lcd monitor and diagnostics output
-
BTW my plan for this system is a self contained monitoring system similar to the lcd system found in the r34gtr I am planning on mounting a seperate lcd screen where the FPV boost guage would normally sit. This would then connect to the cheapest mini ITX based computer system possable, running dos or a very small linux distro. Boot time would be in seconds. I will write a interface that displays infroamtion you want from the can interface. It all should work pritty well. The LCD screen will also be able to be used for tv or dvd if wanted.

Im working on this ATM. waiting on purchasing a CAN ODB2 kit. and interfacing that with my car computer. If anyone wants to hurry this delelopment they are welcome to buy another cheaper cable I found of ebay for me to do some testing with. This of course would be returned to you after testing has been done with all the info and developed program for your use

carputer with OBDII connected will do that

My TC light comes on all the time when I rev it out in first and my back end goes out to the right. I dont have an edit, could my sensors be fu(ked aswell
-
Sorry it is happening very slowly having a big delay on my video card. Im actually having to sell my T as well but I will still be develiping the package for use in my new car and it will work with the ford screen aswell

As Panda said the Mini ITX platfor from Via is no good for the T as its Video card wont do the Job. A 266 Mhz CPU will run windows XP if you do some modification to the install. PM and I can let you know how to get windows XP to boot fast and run alot faster on older PC's. I see the main expence for a Carputer as being the power supply and the video card needed to run on the T's Screen.

Panda this possably will be a feature of my interface. Im using the Windows platfor sdk to make my interface. apart of this interface is voice recognition. ill have a better look at it over the weekend and let you know

Sweet I didnt know u could use the sub amps line level for another amp. Should be as simple as pluggin in a line driver think I got one laying around somewhere
-
Just need to clarify a few things. This device will allow you to take the rca output that currently plugs into the factory sub amp boost its signal and then use it on an after market amp? Thus saving the hastle of running rca's from the front of the car to the boot for your new amp?

The OBD2 interface will be custom made. Im a programmer so all I need is some time and the toys to play with to figure it all out. The interface might take awhile to get working with all the extra T stuff also it the last thing on my list to work on as id like the basic package working first
-
yeah if all works out with the OBD2 interface I will allow it to switch between stats
-
I've also just added a new feature. How does an extra LCD screen where the guage pod normally sits? This screen will be used to boost guage and live engine stats if all goes right. Plus I think it would look cool. My power supply and Graphics cards will be with me in 2 week so ill be able to have so in car pics by then
-
600 is the very basic figure so far ill see how I go with the test system will be even cheaper if youve got an old system to convert over
-
JB Hifi ran out of them in hours. Xbox is something users can plug in themselfs fairly easily
-
Base system will depend on bugdet. Im currently designing it on an Old P3 550(Low power usage makes it ideal). The system being developed will work on any PC that has an AGP 4x slot and room for a TV tuner. So if you have an old system not being used then this package could be very cheap to setup. For people wanting a completly new system. I am looking at using a Celron based system. Im deleloping my own front end that will run on windows(currently windowsXP) but it should also run on 98 and over. To control the system. im planning on supporting. usb keypad. usb mouse. some sort of remote control. Another idea I had was cutting up a usb joystick and turning it into a control system Give me some ideas on how youd like to control it. and if I have the time and money touch screen. The interface will be making use of direct3D to make it look pritty. The video car that will be used is the ArcadeVGA that's been mentioned here before. So basically the system can be a buy and plug in. or use old parts and get it heaps cheaper. Ill hopefully be able to post a demo soon but im waiting on my VGA card and power supply. Migh post a demo of the interface for you guys to have a look at . But still got atleast a weeks work to do on it first. BTW I will more than likely be giving this front end system away for free. So anyone can easily make there CARPUTER with information off this site
-
Hoping it will be easy to install. Just afew plugs to connect. Hardest thing will be bringing the power from the battery Will play dvd's if the dvd player is installed. Shouldnt cost more that about $60 - $80 Will play MP3. Im hoping to include a Sat Nat system on the PC. Just requires a usb GPS plugged in Otherwise any Sat Nat system can be pluged into the PC video in. ATM Base Package is the PC that will play MP3's and Vidoes on its Hardrive. TV tuner will cost about $100. This will allow you to also plug in xbox ps2 and satnav ill have more information soon after some more testing
-
Yeah reverse camera included Im looking at around $600 for the basic package if I can sort out a small issue
-
How many of you guys would purchase a carputer package for your BA/BF and what price range would you be looking at. Im talking about a full Plugin package with full installation instructions. Hopefully no cutting of wires or soldering just plug in harness. Will also be able to take ugrade modules. Basic features will include. MP3 player. DIVX player. Add on features. Mobile TV - can also output to headrest or roof mounter monitor. DVD player. GPS Navigation Mobile internet(Requires 3G mobile phone) OBII interface. (real time monitoring of ECU and displayer gauges on the monitor) Wireless network Touchscreen Addon. I've got this system currently in the works. Also programming a custon interface for it all to use. If there is interest I'll end up looking at getting a custom case fabricated for OEM like installation
