Goin' somewhat quick - two, four and ten wheels.

Had shudder that came and went (03 BA MK1) - discs were getting on so I just went to DBA slotted with PBR performance pads. Couple of thousand kays later and I'm wondering why I didn't do it earlier.
-
I'll go front rotor shudder, handbrake, traction loss, fuel tank empties and lines on face from grinning.

Car goes in on Tuesday for a service and once-over. Another month or two then it'll get an edit. Oddly enough, it may have BF valve springs (it's a replacement engine fitted circa late 05) despite being a BA MK1. Previous owner has fitted some mods - gotta say the SS CAI looks like crap but some of the other gear seems OK. Anyways, Tunehouse can have a look and we'll see what happens.
-
Thanks for that. I'll give Tunehouse a call... need some "fix it" stuff done and for them to assess the previous mods before I get into an edit/tuning. An edit is well on the cards though!!

G'day all, Just looking for a recommendation for a place to take my T for servicing and to fix the previous owner's shoddy job of mounting the exhaust. Not looking for the cheapest, or the flashest, but somewhere that does a good job for a reasonable rate. Would prefer somewhere between say Marrickville and Alexandria (closer is easier once you pull the pushie out of the boot!). Ta.

Considering the manual option (and the but say $8000 cost) arose from the potential for repairing the existing box getting hexxy in the first place... IF the repair was a couple of grand... add more to fit a transmission cooler etc to prevent a repeat... etc etc then you've spent a goodly chunk of money, still have the same gearbox, and may run into the same problems anyway. That being the case, if it's only a few grand more for someone like Mal Woods to 110% fix it, guaranteed, then it's worth a look. Heading to a BF is not a bad option but I think the extra cost would sink it for me. The reasoning is basically an extension of my own so I can hardly fault it. Aside from which, I'd pretty much have to spend the coin to fix this one anyway before selling it... which past experience tells me would not add value: me: Oh, and the gearbox has just been seen to buyer: What was wrong with it? me: Ah, this and that... um... it needed.... buyer: So you thrashed it? me: Look, a little, but only on Sundays really. It IS an XR6T! buyer: [walking] I'll chase up some quotes on getting the original box seen to, sounds like it might not be that much, then spend the saved cash on an edit... which will tick a few other "boxes" as well. My association with manual gearboxes will, for the time being, stay unsatisfied (except for the one on my fireblade!). So the next question: where to take it?Trawling the forum has given me the name of Protrans in (caringbah?)... any other Sydders places worth asking to take a look at it?
-
Yeah... not a bad option... but it would still be an auto. But you do hear nice things about that ZF gearbox. BA already has pipe, intercooler, 968s, SS CAI blah blah and is in dire need of an edit, whereas going the BF route that would all start again.

Looking for your thoughts on this. '03 BA with a 4 speed auto. It suffers from slow reverse selection, and has been getting a bit worse in forward gears (slow to select, slow to shift) over the past few months. I can see two options: 1. Do what it takes to fix the auto box. Obviously largely dependent on actual condition, but I reckon say $2000 to fix up the box, then fit an trans cooler (say $700), and then...? Is there more money to spend on this route? 2. Go manual. I'd prefer this for actually driving the car. It would be more money but how much more? Sounds like the Mal Wood T56 is the ducks nuts (at say $8000 with a good clutch). Have posted in the Mal Wood forum to check the exact cost of this. (Oh, and presumably these $$$ would reduce a little selling the old box). Are there other options? Over to you.

I'll run in close to a numbnuts who has pulled out with an inappropriately small gap in front of me... but I won't stay close, it's too dangerous. If they've done that what else are they going to do? Always cracks me up to see people zip off... then you reel them in... then they zip off... etc. Especially when you're in cruise control and rolling along at a dead constant speed.
-
Too right it's a quick car... Standstill to 400 klicks in 14.35 seconds! Damn quick.
-
lol No, not unseen. I went down and bought it but it'll be staying down there for a while to fit in with other plans before driving it up the coast. Sorry if I gave that impression! As for knowing much about it, yeah, that's true enough. Had a bit of a crawl over it, it was from a dealer so has a statutory warranty, and ultimately the aim wasn't to buy a super quick car... so finding out the exact details of work done after the event is OK. If a few things are done and over time I can fill in the gaps - happy days. And as I put on another thread somewhere, $26K.
-
Cool. I'm chasing up reciepts for the work done and will post that info up when I get it... The car is a Phantom sedan, 699-GZT. Dyno I have shows 284rwkw @ 159kph in 3rd (it's an auto) with 12psi peak boost BUT that was before the engine was replaced... I'm thinking perhaps a case of those conrods needing to be a little stronger!
-
Just bought an XR6T in Bris, car yard, 90,000km but new engine for $26K. There's a few out there around this price for private sale. I was mainly looking Bris/Gold Coast.
-
Ooops. Dyno I have is from Power Torque Engines, the customer being McLean Motors. So I guess any gen on either would be great.
-
G'day guys. I'm new to the world of the XR6T (although have been sniffing around for a little while) and have bought an early '03 BA MK1 - unfortunately, the car's in Bris and I'm well north of that but a few weeks and that will be cured. But I'm not without my questions! The previous owner decided that the No. 6 conrod was better suited to punching holes in the block than being connected to anything much (the dealer, lol, tried to explain to my GF about conrods - apparently, no. conrods = 2x no. cylinders, and push on rocking thingies, and - you get the idea) and a new engine was fitted to the car late last year. All above board, police certificates and all OK. But what engine do I have? Old engine number was JGSW3C3xxxx and new is QE5000xxxx. It's had SS CAI fitted... beyond that some things that the dealer said, but refer my comments about con rods. He said something about Bosch sensors, 30% extra flow and adjustable boost, but... I might just wait until I can look at the car directly some more on this stuff. That all said, and following on from my engine question, what sort of mods are relatively "safe" without smashing the auto up? or popping valve springs? It's ultimately an everday car but, of course, there's no need for it to be boring! I think the old engine had an edit, new one? no idea. Lastly (sorry for the long post) the car has been through "McLean Motors" in Brendale, QLD. Are these guys worth talking to, going back to, etc? Sooo - to recap (1) engine type is?? (2) what are useful mods to start with? (3) Mclean Motors - anyone with good gen?
