Look down and you will find aonther purple headed warrior ! My brother inlaw used to work with a guy called Matthew Matthews. His nickname was double up. Came across another client today with the surname Orifice.
-
came across another one today, Mostyn. Pretty unique.
-
Came across some unusual names recently, one client's first name was "Digby" and another had the first name "Potts". Any other unusual names out there?

Finally got those bits fixed today, the oil pipe cost $15.43 it's part number BA9V684A. Yep, I had broken the PCV pipe as well, it was part number AUC6A666A and cost $9.60. Also needed and elbow joiner which was $2.50. The cross over mounts were $12.77 spot on Hanra. Cost $100 in labour though. Anyway it drives much better now and I feel much better driving around, was starting to get worried about it.

Car Has Issues With Accelerating Hard
purple headed warrior replied to wados's topic in General Tech
Are you using a generic tune? I had a similar problem using the generic 8 PSI tune and as soon as I replaced the spark plugs it stopped. Put in the NGK BKR6EIX plugs, they are about $20 each from repco. Have fun replacing number 6. -
Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows what the vacuum hose does? (The hose which goes into the engine behind the cross over pipes) I broke mine and am waiting to get a new one on Tuesday (tried Thursday just gone but ford id not have any in stock). I have noticed a change in the revs, they don't drop during a gear change, does it have something to do with the fuel mix?

Had Dyno Reading Today....

Yikes, I'm a little concerned I was allowed to sit on it now. Here's the readout I was given, I have no idea if it is good, bad or indifferent. -
Had Dyno Reading Today....
purple headed warrior replied to purple headed warrior's topic in General Tech
To answer comments/Questions 1. Why on Earth did you not post the read out? - I'm at work and don't have a scanner. Hopefully I can do it tonight for you. 2. Didn't they have an air compressor? And what paint was it burning off? - don't know and the paint was from the exhaust. The dude who installed it painted it black. 3. Stepped out a little on the rollers when the car makes 236rwkw? Did they strap it down properly? Ive witnessed plenty of cars making over 550rwkw, and they sure dont "step out"!!!! - Perhaps step out was the wrong term. It moved sideways a bit on the dyno rollers, that is a little scay when you are sitting on the car. It had 2 big clamps on the front and a big chain on the back so I guess it was strapped down properly. My tyres are well worn, just below wear line, getting new tyres on Monday. 4. Bit of advice, 'Do not stand in front of the car'..... - Sounds like there is a story behind this comment. Care to share? -
Well, I had my first ever dyno reading today (At Brisbane turbo), that was an experience, seeing all the clamps and chains going on made we wonder what on earth could happen here? That got the nerves going, then the guy noticed that the rear tyres were a bit low and asked myself and my mate to sit on the tailgate while he took the reading. Wow that was an experience and a half!! All sorts of thoughts and scenarios ran through my head. As he wound it up the tyres started to slip a bit and is stepped out a little before settling down, then came the queer feeling of sitting on the back with the engine going flat bikky and not going anywhere, then came the smoke which really freaked me out. The exhaust got hot and began to burn the paint off, as soon as John (the dyno guy) told me that my heart rate dropped by 50%. Anyway, it was a great experience and a great result was achieved, even gave John a surprise. If you have not had a dyno reading, go do it!! It's worth the few pennies it costs.

Yikes, don't like the sound of that. It's getting fixed tomorrow, at ford. My experience with tuners in town has made me believe they would struggle to tune a lawn mower let alone one of these babies. So what is the vacuum pipe sucking up?
-
Don't know, it runs very close to the throttle body. It goes between the cross over pipe and the engine. When I got the car it was broken, no idea how long for. When I t took it to ford to get repaired, they did not seem concerned about it.
-
Oops. Silly me was not being very careful when removing the cross over piping and broke the vacuum pipe off!! Also noticed that most of the rubber stopper gizmos were broken too. Also over tightened the other little pipe on the throttle side but that does not really do much. Anyone know what that one is/does?
-
Well I'm going to stop using the cable adjustment now and do it properly, cheers. Sorry for the initial misdirection.

There's nothing wrong with when the fans kick in, the temp goes back to normal in the traffic. So it's either the thermostat or nothing wrong at all, 'll try the recylce air option to keep my toes from freezing, if that works I guess it would be ok, nothing wrong with a cool engine.

New Exhaust Options
purple headed warrior replied to purple headed warrior's topic in Exhaust Workshop
Well, ummm, were do I start? I went for the custom made option as the guy really seemed to know what he was doing. Well it came back very loud, almost deafening at times, the missus hated it and was embarrassed to be seen driving in it. When I lifted the bonnet, lo and behold, there's the original dump pipe!! Dispite saying he would put a biger one on, it turns out he did not know how they went together and could not make one to fit, so he didn't, and didn't bothr to tell me that! After some heated arguments I decided to give up as I wasn't really missing out on too much and this guy was not going to budge. So I got him to fix the noise so it was quieter. He has stuck a resonator on at the end and now (unless accelerating hard) it sounds like the car is farting!! Really upset and angry, at least I have better flow now. Still have to fork out for a cat back system to get a decent note. I'm told the note changes a little over time due to carbon build up or something like that, hopefully that is true and works out ok. Now I know that I should to what I know works well and not to trust others opinons. On another note, the Xfroce website has been updated with some new pics, 1 features a quad tip set up. There's no text for it so I'm not really sure if they make them, worth looking into for the quad tips fans, they look alright. -
I had seen the white ute before when it was doing the rounds on the email, did not know it came from here. Well, there was about 20 or so guys drinking from it and there was around 4 cartons left (from 20 30 packs) and a esky full of ice. Not bad considering it was over 30 degrees for most of the day and the lid was up. The few guys got carried away with the quantity, the first casualty was sleeping in the gutter before the sun went down, a couple of others quickly followed. That had more to do wit the beer funnel someone brought with them. I think it weighed around 600 KG all up, pretty close to the tyre rating. Car handled it fine, we drove it up and down the Toowoomba range and down some dirt roads to Skirmish and there were no dramas.

Yesterday I noticed the temperature gauge was reading significantly lower than it ususally does on my drive to Brisbane. Usually the needle is just going through the bottom corner of the icon (around about a 3/8 position) but this morning it was below the quarter mark. Yeah it was cold (5 degress) but it has never done that before. The sucky part was it seemed to affect the heater, I had to turn it up to max heat to get any warm air blowing in the cabin. WhenI got into the Ipswich motorway crawl, the temp gauge went back up it's normal position, probably a bit higher if anything. The night before I flash updated to an 8 psi map, surely that is not the cause. A week earlier I fitted a high flow cat and a 3.5" cat back exhaust but the days after that was fitted there was no temperature change. Is the thermostat stuffed? Or could it be something else?

Not sure, I think I got some crappy letter saying they don't recognise the category but that would have to be garbage with some of the other ridiculous records there are out there. It was supposed to take 6 weeks to process the record request but they took 3 months or so in which time the esky had past, maybe that's why they would not accept it. Pics below, before and after final layer of ice.

Hi guys, For my buck's night last November I used the tray of my T as the esky If you are interested in doing something like that, this is how we went about it. 1. Purchase 20 cartons of your favourite beverages. Best to buy the grog in cans. 2. Find somewhere to cool them before putting in the ute. We used 2 fridges and a 250L esky. This reduces the amount of ice you need, time required and maximises the amount of grog. 3. Run some garden hose through the front drain holes so the melting ice water drips out directly onto the ground rather than the tray floor. 4. Do the same through the corners of the tail gate and tape down the hose ends so they are level with the tub floor. 5. Used gaffa tape to seal the tail gate and any other holes in the tub liner. 6. Go to ice factory and get 300KG of ice. 7. Race over to the pre chilled grog stockpile and unload ice. 8. Put a thin layer of ice on the tub floor. 9. Put one layer of cans on the tub floor and cover with some ice so you can't see the cans. 10. Put in rest of cans. 11. Put in rest of ice. 12. Take photos. 13. Close lid. 14. Drive to party and enjoy. Some other tips, we found it handy to be parked on a slight forward decline (front lower than the back). This way the melting ice drains out the front holes away from the drunken party goers. This way there are minimal pools of slippery water near the high traffic areas. Get about 4 helpers, it makes it much quicker to transfer the grog from the chillers to the tray. Wear gloves, the ice gets pretty cold very quickly. Total cost was roughly $1,000 and was a mountain of fun. PS Guiness World Records won't accept it as the world's fastest esky.

It's easier to ask foe it to be tightened at your next service but if you can't wait that long, it will cost you 5 minutes. Crawl underneath and look for a long screw thread with a nut on it and a couple of other bits. It's roughly a little over halfway back on the ute. That's the handbrake, tighten that and off you go.

My experience has taught me that it more important to use fuel from a clean servo than which brand you use. I had been running BP ultimate for 18 months, purely because that servo was the closest. Recently they increased the cent difference between ULP and ultimate from 9 cnts to 13 cents so I changed. Also another servo on my regular run closed for a couple of months to replace its underground fuel tanks. So I have recently changed servos to Mobil 98 RON (whatever it is called). My fuel economy has improved 0.5L/100KM, I think it has more to do with the new and clean tanks rather than differnet brand. You will also find differnt bowsers will read different amounts which can often change your perception of fuel economy. Take a canister to the servo that has a known capacity to see if you are getting ripped or rewarded. IMHO these 2 factors are much more important than the brand of fuel you are using. Theory suggests they should all be the same anyway as they have the same octane rating. PS If you can buy your fuel at a place that is cold you will also benefit as you will be getting a greater density of fuel per litre but this is negligible unless the place is 5 degrees colder or more.

I was quoted $440 fitted for the Xforce 3.5" dump pipe from my local supplier this morning.

If anyone is interested, the T's stock suspension is able to carry 2 bobcat scoop fulls of 10mm limestone rocks at a time , just don't go over many bumps and don't leave it in there for long. I did this twice 4 months ago with 4 year old suspension and have had no dramas. It took me about 1 hour to shovel the rocks out, garden looks nice now

If you get it for $23,000 then you are doing well, the starting price is pretty good. For comparison, Brisbane people are advertising them at $25,000 and above and they have 100,000+ km's on the clock and don't have leather seats. Happy buying.

New Exhaust Options
purple headed warrior replied to purple headed warrior's topic in Exhaust Workshop
Yeah I called Automace, they wanted $1,600 for the whole lot. I am going for a full system as my cat has collapsed, figured I would do it all in one go. Don't really want to install myself, I'm not confident enough with these things yet but I guess I never will be if I don't start though! Tried ebay too but I have a ute and there's nothing available on there for them. The custom made one is a 3.5" dump pipe and a high flow cat and has 1 muffler. Learnt that it is a good idea to shop around too, another exhaust shop wanted $400 more for the Xforce system and said it would go up again on May 1st.
