Thursday, 24 Jul 2008 05:29am Two men will lose their licenses after an illegal street race on the M7 motorway in western Sydney overnight which resulted in a serious collision. About 9.30pm Quakers Hill Police and emergency services were called to the scene of the collision on the M7 about 1km west of the Sunnyholt Road exit at Quakers Hill. Investigations into the collision are continuing, however witnesses have told police that the vehicles were street racing prior to the collision. It appears that the vehicles, a Ford XR6 Turbo ute and a Ford XR6 Turbo sedan, collided while racing east bound on the M7. Both then collided with a wire guard rail, a solid electronic overhead sign and an electrical power box. The sedan then came to rest on its roof and caught fire. Police who attended the scene extinguished the fire prior to the arrival of Fire Brigade officers. The 21-year-old Baulkham Hills driver of the sedan and his 22-year-old male passenger from Glenhaven escaped the crash with minor injuries and were taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition. The driver of the ute, a 22-year-old P2 provisional license holder from Maroota, was uninjured. Both men will be charged with street racing, drive in a manner dangerous and traffic offences. Both men will have their license suspended and are due appear at Blacktown Local Court on a later date.
