  10. This is for the cat lovers out there Oscar the cat seems to have an uncanny knack for predicting when nursing home patients are going to die, by curling up next to them during their final hours. His accuracy, observed in 25 US cases, has led the staff to call family members once he has chosen someone. It usually means they have less than four hours to live. "He doesn't make too many mistakes. He seems to understand when patients are about to die," said Dr David Dosa. He describes the phenomenon in a poignant essay in the New England Journal of Medicine. "Many family members take some solace from it. They appreciate the companionship that the cat provides for their dying loved one," said Dosa, a geriatrician and assistant professor of medicine at Brown University. The two-year-old feline was adopted as a kitten and grew up in a dementia unit at the Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre. The facility treats people with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease and other illnesses. After about six months, the staff noticed Oscar would make his own rounds, just like the doctors and nurses. He would sniff and observe patients, then sit beside people who would end up dying in a few hours. Dosa said Oscar seems to take his work seriously and is generally aloof. "This is not a cat that's friendly to people," he said. Oscar is better at predicting death than the people who work there, said Dr Joan Teno of Brown University, who treats patients at the nursing home and is an expert on care for the terminally ill She was convinced of Oscar's talent when he made his 13th correct call. While observing one patient, Teno said she noticed the woman was not eating, was breathing with difficulty and that her legs had a bluish tinge, signs that often mean death is near. Oscar would not stay inside the room though, so Teno thought his streak was broken. Instead, it turned out the doctor's prediction was roughly 10 hours too early. Sure enough, during the patient's final two hours, nurses told Teno that Oscar joined the woman at her bedside. Doctors said most of the people who get a visit from the sweet-faced, grey-and-white cat are so ill they probably do not know he is there, so patients are not aware he is a harbinger of death. Most families are grateful for the advanced warning, although one wanted Oscar out of the room while a family member died. When Oscar is put outside, he paces and meows his displeasure. No one is certain if Oscar's behaviour is scientifically significant or points to a cause. Teno wonders if the cat notices telltale scents or reads something into the behaviour of the nurses who raised him. Nicholas Dodman, who directs an animal behavioural clinic at the Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine and has read Dosa's article, said the only way to know is to carefully document how Oscar divides his time between the living and dying. It is possible his behaviour could be driven by self-centred pleasures like a heated blanket placed on a dying person, Dodman said. Nursing home staffers are not concerned with explaining Oscar, so long as he gives families a better chance at saying goodbye to the dying. Oscar recently received a wall plaque publicly commending his "compassionate hospice care." Regards TUFXRT6
  11. I think the springs are covered
  12. I am just finding out about the lease services so my questions might be a little basic. Am I right in saying the follow: You can pay some where around $900 per month which will cover 1) car cost 2) rego 3) in some cases fuel In regards to the residual Am I right in saying the follow: Some where around 35% risidual. My questions: -Does the monthly costs also cover insurance & servicing?? -in regards to residual does this mean the car needs to be worth 35% of purchase price otherwise you will need to makeup the difference?? -I cant see where the tax benefits fit in??? Thanks for the replies in advance.
  13. Yeap info on this option would be great
  14. Before the series got really competitive & couldnt use Calder anymore this used to be one of the best racing days out. "The Toyo Pro Drift Challenge at Calder Park Raceway (on February 9-10, 2008) has been announced as a curtain-raiser to the 2008 Toyo Drift Australia Series. “Victoria hasn’t had a major drift event for a couple of years so we thought this would be a great way to kick off the 2008 season and we are confident that it will be enthusiastically received by the teams and the fans.” said Drift Australia’s Luke Southam. “The Toyo Drift Australia Series is sanctioned by the Confederation of Australian Motorsport as the official Australian Drift Championship. Calder Park does not currently hold a CAMS track licence so this event won’t be an official championship round but it will be a major televised event and we imagine that most of the top teams and drivers will be involved.” Southam added. " I will definetly be going to this. P.S. I have no affiliation to anyone running these events (I wanted to at the start as I could see a real future of this type of racing). Regards TUFXRT6
  15. I have just ordered myself the Ministry of Sound "Trance Classics" from the UK Ministry of Sound. With the Aussie dollar so high a 3cd mailed to Australia is about 35-40 AUD. Ministry of Sound in the UK has ten times better music & odds are in about two years time you will actually see the same songs on Australia's Ministry of Sound cd's. A friend of mine buys the German version of Ministry of Sound as its even cheaper but due to the language barrier if you dont understand whats on the CD you may end up with a cd with German singing on it. Regards TUFXRT6
  16. That is freaky!!!!! I normally never see thouse pictures in pictures but.... I can actually see the clown laughing, Its in the middle with the head slightly looking to the left (the person looking at the pictures right.
  17. Using an auto means you can really only use the handbreak to start a drift, in a manual you can use the handbreak & the motor killing clutch dump.
  18. Jman, I would suggest doing more research on drifting before trying to attempt it. I have seen people using the SKID PAN (CONTROLLED SURFACE) in a 6speed auto in manual mode 2nd gear. Look at my pic to see what a manual looks like drifting. Personally Im suprised this topic is still going. Regards TUFXRT6
  19. People in Glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Most people would love to own monster Holdens, Nissan's etc etc.
  20. Yeah EvilDaifu where is all the photo's you took?? I cant believe I missed out on the snow!!!!
  21. I think realistically good looking women who are single are going to have a couple of extra k's on the clock. Unfortunetly good looking women have all the power. Regards TUFXRT6
  22. I would recommend going to Nizpro or HPF, the travel distance is really not that far & both places have a strong track records with good performance numbers. Some people from this site have travelledfrom interestate to use these guys. Plus is you hang around at Nizpro for long enough you will get to see some real monsters. Regards TUFXRT6
  23. Maybe we could look into doing a group buy if the numbers are right
  24. Was it this time last year we went on the cruise?? Im off to Byron Bay so I will see you all on the 8th
  25. I am personally thinking of going down a slightly different path of cars. Im thinking an escort as the parts available for them range as much as your budget does & the other thought was a Torana with an 8 in it & the biggest radiator available. Both cars are reasonable in purchase price, parts are relatively easy to find. BUT....... dont expect to use a drifter as your street car.
