    Driver Study

This answers all questions on why we drive fast..... Here I was just thinking it was the thrill of the launch or the loss of traction. Young men drive fast because speed is perceived as inherently male, a team of Swiss and German researchers claim in a study. The scientists at the Universities of Zurich, Neuchatel and Heidelberg found that men who were exposed to a "typically male environment" drove "significantly" faster than when they were in female or neutral environments. The study involved 83 male students aged 20 to 27, who were placed in driving simulators, Neuchatel psychology professor Marianne Schmid Mast said. They accelerated when they were played words such as 'muscle' or 'beard' — which were taken to evoke masculine traits — over the car radio in the simulated male environment. In the female environment, words like 'lipstick' or 'pink' were played and they drove about two kilometres an hour slower. Similar results were found with the simulated neutral environment — words like 'table' or 'chair'. The study was prompted by concern about the high proportion of young men involved in road accidents linked to speeding. Schmid Mast said the results were statistically significant. "The link between a macho attitude and aggressive driving has often been evoked but it hadn't been demonstrated," she told AFP. The researchers said the findings could help design road safety campaigns that dissociate speed from masculinity, such as by showing seven times Formula One motor racing champion Michael Schumacher driving slowly on normal roads. Schmid Mast said she hoped to conduct a similar study with a group of women. Regards TUFXRT6

  11. I have two car insurances & house insurance with RACV all of which have been with RACV for a few years now. I have private health insurance with HBA so they gave me a 10% discount on my car insurance. Also I forgot to add that paying for the insurance by the month with HBA was even cheaper than paying up front (I'm personally still going to go with paying up front). Regards TUFXRT6
  12. Just letting everyone know..... I have been with RACV for 7 years fully comp & no claims or driver idiocy, again this year RACV increased my insurance!!!! I rang HBA who are apparently trying to market themselves to Australian built cars only & were $200 dollars cheaper!!!! Regards TUFXRT6

  15. I dont know everything about TV's but I have a very close friend who is both a whole sale supplier & sets up large scale visual operations e.g. flight simulators, large corporation multi office Conferencing. As I am in the market to get a large Tv he told me to get one of these http://www.hitachi.com.au/fullhd/ I think the key to these TV's are the fact they are full HD 1920 x 1080 They apparently have just been released in Australia & I'm not sure if retail can get them yet. Regards TUFXRT6

  24. I have the same problem!!! you hit boost & there is a bloody tapping noise. Some one told me it was the Solenoid, but considering everyone seems to have a manual with this problem maybe there is a link??? Please keep me in the loop if you find the problem as I posted this issue a few weeks ago & no one has come back with an answer. My car is still under warrenty so I will be taking it to them as soon as I blow the dust of the XR & take it down. Regards TUFXRT6
  25. I have just been given a Nintendo Wii from my younger brother (his 13) as he prefered to go back to his Xbox & PS2. Positives of Wii's: -If your kids are active & you want to get involved in your kids game play then I would definetly get a Wii, it takes a little while getting used to but once you do its a truck load of fun. -If you have mates that like to come over for a couple of beers & act like idoits, jumping around the lounge & having laughs then worth getting a Wii. -If your concerned that your children are spending too much time on the consol you can track the time played. -Games are cheap. Negatives: -Graphics so far on the games I have (4) are basic. -You need a large TV, swinging the controllers around on a tinny tv just doesnt work. -The games list are limited (most developers are taking the next step in graphics, which the Wii just doesnt have). -You cant play normal Dvd's on Wii. Hope that helps a little. Regards TUFXRT6 :banghead:
