  1. Haha we won't open that can of worms! I agree though, if the cat was going to cause issues it would be at WOT/sudden lift off rather than idling.
  2. Would unplugging tps and pps make the pcm issue a default value, or just shut off the car? If I unplugged either of these and the idle stayed the same or improved, this would either eliminate or identify each of those as a possible cause
  3. Thanks guys! Cat is 100 cell. I meant to mention that there is usually a SLIGHT roughness to the idle all the time,so thanks - checking for a manifold leak, tps or pps issue sounds like a good idea. Actually my EL XR6 has had a rough idle since I bought it in 2004! Otherwise drives fine, but plugs, leads, fuel filter, thermostat, coolant temp sensor, o2 sensor and tps haven't fixed it. I've gotten past caring with that. Maybe I need to go somewhere and ask "can you vacuum leak test all of my falcons".
  4. Hey guys Anyone got a guess on this one? This morning I started up, idling for a minute or so while I did a couple of things, then as I put the car into drive, it started idling really badly (stumbling and shuddering). Turned it off and on again and it went beautifully. Drove to work with no hassles at all - revved cleanly, made usual boost. Grabbed the fault codes and got the following. All seem to suggest something was causing wacko sensor readings. Codes relate to rpm/speed limiter reached and invalid speed and rpm readings. The u1900 code is usually there and I think relates to the obd device itself. New cat, turbo, plugs and coils done in last six months, but nothing else significant. Stock tune, nothing else done. I reckon I might have pulled similar codes with coil related misfire under load last year, before I replaced them. Scanned again after driving to work and no codes at all. Any ideas much appreciated!
  5. I ran CM on my Note 3 for about a year but got sick of battery life issues. Just went back to an international samsung rom, as Australian carrier rom updates are weak. A decent launcher fixes most of my customisation needs and samsung gripes. Did lol at the fact that CM nighties seem more stable that samsung ROMs! Out of contract in April - thinking LG G5 or Nexus 6P. Can't seem to shake the thought though that a 6P will be sending my personal data to foreign governments...
  6. Same goes for the bumper and bonnet - get rid of em! ☺ I could only be stuffed fixing it because I had it off anyway to get to the bottom rad hose more easily.
  7. Good point! Was actually split more than I thought, so it's stitched up like a drift pig now. Oil and filter changed, coolant leak fixed, splash shield repaired, oil temp sensor installed and sending to gauge ok. But sadly couldn't get to the oil feed with the tools at hand. Going to need either a stubby spanner or a deep socket I think.
  8. If I find two filter screens in there my paranoia will be justified...
  9. Thanks I'll be careful I don't over-tighten. I'm pretty happy with where he routed the line and it's got the heat shield on the first section. The filter itself is at the front of the engine and he wrapped that in heat shielding too, which was probably overkill. Haha sorry if my paranoia about the screen being left in has triggered everyone else's paranoia! ☺
  10. Although it would fix the issue of oil baking in the line and causing a blockage, which is what caused my failure. Thanks for the advice on location - I'll be annoyed if I find the screen still there.
  11. Can someone give me a heads up where the oil screen is for the turbo line? Ie is it in the adaptor that the oil feed and oil pressure switch are installed into? Or is in the block itself where the adaptor goes? My mechanic fitted an earl's kit when my turbo went bang last year due to blocked oil feed line. I asked afterwards if he had removed the screen also and he paused and nodded on a way that suggested "I'm almost certain I probably did that". Doing an oil change and a few little tidy ups tonight,so will check it out to make sure. Because I'm looking for something that might not be there, I want to be certain about where it should be. Thanks!
  12. Haha my 98 EL XR6 I've had for about 12 years. Wife is driving it but we'll upgrade to a soccer mum car in the next year or so. I'm pretty attached to it and would hardly fetch a buck if I sold it. Reckon I'm better of keeping it for some project. Probably would always regret it if I sold it. It's becoming quite a conversation starter at servos and shops too. At least, more so than my lighting strike BA!
  13. Have you got a boost gauge and if so have the typical readings changed? Or if you have an obd Bluetooth adaptor and the Torque app (both are cheap if you don't) you can get boost pressure from the ECU and then let us know. Is the car stock or if not what mods? I'm guessing it would be hard to pressure test the intake system for leaks without some sort of special equipment. But that's getting beyond my level of expertise. I'd check all of the clamps before doing too much though, if you haven't already.
  14. When mine went bad, the car was at the mechanic soon after for something else and he chucked cheap ones in. They then missed under load. When trying to isolate the issue I missed a pipe clamp and popped an ic hose off (so huge boost leak) . Car was suddenly fineunder WOT. New decent coils sorted it out. Cheap ones probably would test ok and be ok in NA car, but don't seem to operate be strong enough with boost.
  15. Meant the guy used to be an atheist - he isn't anymore.
  16. I agree that someone's belief isn't worth much if they are not willing to put it to the test. And yes, some religions or churches do dull critical thinking with their approach. But likewise, a desire for God to not exist (because if he does, that surely requires some sort of response from us) can also dull critical thinking. Personally, I was amazed at the amount of evidence that exists that Jesus lived, dies and rose. Similarly the number of copies and agreement between copies of ancient biblical texts, as evidence that it has been passed down accurately through time, is enormous compared to other historical texts whose accuracy is never questioned. An imvestigate journalist, Lee Strobel, who was a full blown atheist, wrote a book called Case for Christ which laid this out for me really clearly. If I tell someone what I believe it's because I genuinely care about them, not because I'm fanatically trying to get them to join my club. The choice is theirs.
  17. It's what I was thinking. For me the fact that we aren't actually in control of our happiness but something bigger is, is a huge relief and a source of happiness in itself. You can run yourself into the ground building up cash and things that everyone tells you equate to happiness, but at the end of the day it's not going to mean a thing. Terrible things of course happen and we don't always understand why, but knowing there is a bigger context than us helps. Apparently He can't fix the forum though [emoji3]
  18. Used to work in a job that needed to know quals a bit: http://www.aqf.edu.au P63 of the handbook on this site - PhD is one type of doctoral degree, rather than being higher than a doctoral degree.
  19. Agree with that as a first check - I replaced pads recently then took it for a test drive. Had a ticking sound from one corner and was wondering what I had stuffed up! Tyre had picked up a bunch of stones at the bottom of my street.
  20. Turned out to be a cheap trip to the mechanic! The new diff bush installed last year was in upside down... One hour's labour sorted it out. Inclined to take the invoice back to the place that fitted the bush. Thanks for all the tips though - will be useful when I do need to drop the cradle sometime.

    Boost

Thanks for that - makes sense. I can understand from that how it is possible to overboost.I'm assuming then that this is in a sudden, uncontrolled boost spike scenario (e.g. sudden throttle close), where as under a steadier load, if the wastegate can't bleed boost quickly enough and boost builds beyond what the ECU,s factory tune is happy with, the ECU shuts everything down. I guess the question is whether or not doing the cat alone would cause enough of a boost increase to push the car into this zone. My experience with a 100 cell on an otherwise stock BA XR6T is no. The advice I got before fitting was that this wouldn't happen with a standard dump. Notwithstanding that my boost gauge is probably not super accurate, before the cat change I would max at 7psi (I doubt it is actually that high). After replacing the cat, I get to 7psi more easily but still peaks at that pressure. I haven't ever triggered the overboost cut-out in the ECU. Every car and cat is different though and everyone has to be comfortable with what they are doing to their own car. A tune would definitely be best to make the most of the cat and I''m planning to do exactly that, with some mild mods, in the future once a couple of other priorities are out of the way!

    Boost

I'm probably forgetting something stupid, but I'm very interested to learn how this works, this being my first turbo car. I can understand that reduced back flow = easier/faster turbo spool up = increased boost pressure = increased air quantity which has the potential to impact on AFR. I'm assuming that within the factory boost range, the car detects the incoming air and can adjust fuel appropriately to give correct AFR. So on part throttle, boost should come on easier at a given engine load and the car will adjust accordingly on factory tune. Under harder throttle I guess is where the potential is to make higher than factory boost. What I don't understand is wouldn't the waste gate just bleed off the excess? This doesn't cover a boost spike on sudden throttle close of course. Is that the only scenario where the risk exists?
  23. Definitely worth pursuing - your issue seems consistent with both the warranty and what you should reasonably expect from the product. SCA were great last week giving me store credit when I had received two identical work lights from different people as Christmas gifts. Let me return one with no receipt, so suggestion to find someone reasonable at another store is a good one. Could an auto sparkle give you an opinion on the battery condition before you visit the store again? Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
