Xr6 Turbo Or Xr8 For Circuit Racing
XR8Chic replied to Jim_jammin's topic in Drag and Circuit Racing
If you are just going to do a couple of track days / fun days - I would go for the Turbo. If you want to race, I would look at an XR8, and check all the rules for production or Improved Production to ensure you build it to spec. If you run a Turbo, they put you up a class, and you are up against seriously quick cars, and you would not be as competitive. -
I have driven trucks before... and I could only DREAM that they had a gearbox as nice as a T56. The T56 is a heavy duty box, designed to take a LOT of power... The one in my car is the same one as used in the supercharged mustangs in the US... (last time I looked mustangs didnt resemble trucks ) I still dont get why the guys from APS are denying the T56 being in there car... I mean.. its on numerous forums, with hundreds of witnesses... If they are implying that a T56 is not good enough for a car with APS gear in it... I guess I better do something quick... I mean... its only been 2 years since I did my 6 speed conversion, and 3 years since I got the unichip... so I probably only have minutes left before it stops working...

Who ever thinks the T56 6 Speed is a "truck box", and is sloppy for shifting obviously has never driven a car with T56 in it before. (or if they have - they have never driven a car with a T5 in it, to compare it to) I have a a T56 in my ED XR8, and I find it far superior to the T5, and T3650 that are standard equipment from ford. I was at Oran Park a couple of weeks ago, and I let a friend of mine (Brad) drive my car for a few laps. Brad works for ford. He is the head driving instructor for the Australian Academy of Motorsport, and the John Bowe institute in NSW, He is the guy that will do the driver training course for all FPV owners in NSW, He is also the guy who drives the GT's in the new GT add. (so... he knows one of two things about driving) He was VERY impressed the T56 in my car. He was commenting on how the shift on it was so smooth.. He said he might even consider that as one of the mods he does to his XR6T after is out of warranty.

I thought it was an awesome day. I was there from 9am till 6pm. There is a lot of seriously awesome cars there. When I see the engineering that go into them, it realy amazes me. Bit of a dissapointment that the driving events got cancelled due to the rain, but the burnouts were great while they were on. Some of the figures coming out the dyno was amazing!! Steve Santos was there with his immaculate VL (the one that caught fire in the dyno cell at the nats). He is qualifying as the highest powered so far. Over 700HP !! Only 1 BA went on the dyno (and I had to drag him there, and force him to do it). 266 rwhp out of a BA XR8 with K&N filter and chip. Not bad, but I think he wanted more (dont we all) I will be back down there tomorrow... charging my camera now... Want to get HEAPS more pics. P.S - Did you see the twin turbo capri at the Extreme stand? How neat is that!!!, and there is a purple Holden (not sure what model - its an old one) with a LS1 in it.... that car is very impressive!!

Hey lowriding... think again... A lot of couples I know end up getting the car/s they have based on the desires of the female in the relationship. A mate wanted a ute - but had to get a sedan because SHE said so (incase she cant drive the kids in her car). She also demanded a smaller car (so she could park it easier) and she wanted all the safety options (air bags and all that cr@p). Poor guy ended up a Astra. And if you think about the 2nd hand car market - females are a LOT more picky about the car they buy compared to a guy. A guy will most often say "I want an EL Falcon" and go out and get one. The girl will often say "I want a Grey or silver EL Falcon, with immaculate interior, no cigarette smell, nice mags, air bags, etc etc etc" and then spend months looking for one that will meet all the requirements. If you think about it - the reasoning is very simple - the average guy will look at a car, and see what it CAN be.. and plan his mods.. The average female will want something that looks good from the beginning, and not plan to mod anything. P.S Having said that... I think the volvo car is discusting - they must have hired the biggest bimbo's in the world to design that POS. I mean - a pony tail recess??? WTF?!?
-
OUCH!!! Definatly not good. At least you are OK, and the car is repairable.
-
I have been buying my nephew ford gear since he was born (he is now 4) Its so cute... seeing him out wearing DJR t shirts, pit crew shirts, little race suits, and ford jackets. His favourite at the moment is a ozemail racing pit crew shirt I got him - with all the logo's embroidered on.
-
poor Ant... I know how you feel (you saw the big scratch on my car from a dickhead reversing into my car didnt you?) so was the blue Late model camira a ute??
-
If you just want to use the high pressure water with no added chemicals, and then chamois off... go to a car lovers "do it yourself" Put $1 in the machine - set it to high pressure rinse - then get all the crud off... then move it out and chamois it off. Another option invoves going to the car wash at 2am, and only using the water - and all of your own meguiars gear.. (they are less likely to catch you at 2am.)
-
Drink the water and you wont think about her for a while....

Hey Hey, already spoke to you about it... but here are some pro's and con's. Pro Cheaper Bill (duh) People can email your phone instead of SMS (cheaper for them) You can have your emails read to you from the voicemail system (good if you are driving) You can receive faxes on your phone too! (no monthly charges for fax service) if you want to save money - you can check all your voicemail, fax and email on the internet (or even outlook). You get an SMS notification of urgent emails. (So if people want to get a message to you, they make the email urgent.. write the message in the title and send it to you, and you will get the message on your handset straight away) Camera Video's Watch movies on the phone when you are bored. There are no monthly service fee's (ie.. if you buy your handset outright, you only pay usage) MP3 player You get most accessories you would want with the handset (2 batteries, leather case, 2 chargers, 2 headphones, memory card etc etc etc) Cons Occaisionally takes 2 or 3 attempts to make a call You have to deal with the lovely call center in India for customer service and tech support. Size of the phone (they are big compared to most nokia's) As with all other carriers, ported numbers will have issues receiving international sms from some countries. (ie.. if your current providor has a direct agreement with the OS carrier, and 3 has an indirect agreement with a internal SMS broker such as nilcom... the message will not get through) Accessories are expensive Battery life has a bit to be desired Contrary to popular belief, coverage is NOT an issue. It actually works out better than other carriers, cos if you cant get a signal on WCDMA, you can pick up a GPRS or GSM signal from Vodafone. All in all - I am happy with my phone. (I have the A920). I use it more than my Nokia (optus). Havent had a dropout in about 6 weeks.

Blueprint is a very popular colour... I see it a lot - stands out like dogs balls too!! I think the Lightening Strike colour will be pretty popular too. Had quite a few XR6T's in that colour join the club in the last month. Umm - and silly question - what colour is hgag? and isnt it sorta mean to name a colour that?? I wouldnt want someone refering to poly green as a "gag" colour.
-
Most phone companies will let you get your way if you threaten to disconnect. If you spend a lot each month ($200 a month WTF?!?) they will not want to let you leave. You can "test the waters" by ringing up the customer service dept and ask for your account number. They will ask why. Tell them you need it cos you are considering porting to another carrier. They will offer you discounts or other incentives to stay. Alternativly - see if they have a capped call plan. My current plan is a $99 talk cap - basically I can talk as much as I want each month and the most I will pay is $99. So if I make $5 worth of calls - I pay $5... If I make $50 worth of calls I pay $50 If I make $200 worth of calls - I pay $99 If I make $500 worth of calls - I pay $99 (and so on) (P.S - I am not making up the stuff about threatening to disconnect. I worked at Optus for 2 years and Hutchison for 6 months. My sis currently works for Optus mobile, has previously worked for telstra mobile, and RSLcom... and one of my best mates currently works for vodafone, until March when the call center moves to India, and he gets made redundant)

hey SJW.. I got a question. I am having trouble trying to find someone who will lend a single 26 year old female money to buy a house. (I am a contractor too....) I only need about $80k to purchase the house ($390k)... I was told it was cos I am a single female, and that I could get preggers and not be able to repay the mortgage.. Should I just look for a cheaper place and pay cash, or should I get someone to go into the mortgage with me??
-
Hey Feenix... fancy seeing you here!! I can see valid points from everyone here. Last nats on the saturday night, it was easier to drive around in epic, than it was to drive in Braddon. I had to drive through Braddon on the way to meet up with Feenix last year, and it took me forever to get through , cos the cops stopped ALL the traffic (all lanes in both directions) and were checking all the cars, and doing breath tests. I plan to avoid the popular area's this year, and already have most of my evening plans in NSW locations (hey - I am even staying in a hotel in NSW)
-
OUCH!! not good. But its good that no one was hurt. guess your mate is thinking it might have been better to take out skippy..
-
I know - my 2 passengers and I were talking about it a bit. We were amazed at the number actually. Normally I only see 5 brake downs max on the way up (or maybe up to around 7 if its raining) at one brake down bay (you know - the little bit to pull over, and there is a phone there) there was 3 cars squished in, and another one on the grass in the middle.

Are you guys wanting to do a high performance day or a driver training day? (ie - do you want to do hot laps, or do you want to learn car control, break and recovery techniques, and understeer / oversteer correction??) If its the latter, there are quite a few companies that do courses at Nirima Tafe (they have a skid pan out the back). Its heaps of fun, and can cost from $150 - $200. Murcott had a deal in Dec - that the courses were $99, but everyone I told this about didnt seem interested (not mentioning any names MISSXR) If its a high performance day you are after, they are usually around $250 - $350 at oran park. Any FPV-Tickford club members will get discounts from the drive days done by the Australian Academy of Motorsports. (they do both high performance, and "drive to survive" days as well as customised days.

I wish... She wont do it. I had her in a ford once, but it doesnt look likely to happen again. She is currently looking at R32's and Soarers. (she has too much money)... although, I caught her looking at the croydon autosports XR6T yesterday when we were picking up her car from there. (yes - she spent more money on the sneezer)
-
You obviously dont do much driving then. (or drive with your eyes shut) It was christmas day, on the F3. The whole trip from the start of the F3 (Hornsby ish area) to the Charmhaven turnoff (2nd turnoff after the twin caltex) I saw in excess of 40 broken down cars. The time would have been 3:30pm when I hit the F3, and just before 4:20 pm when I took the turn off. I am sure the NRMA will keep records of how many break downs they attended that day if you want to confirm it.
-
leonb - unfortunatly - this is a lesson you learnt the hard way, and I am sure you wont do it again. Too many times I have had the same thing - had someone else TRY and drive my car, and end up fcking it up. I always make sure if someone else HAS to drive it - I park it away from walls, polls, and other cars. 90% of the time I end up moving it for the other person anyways, cos most men are stupid and cant drive manual. How hard is to understand "more revs or she will stall" ??
-
I was trying to convince my sis that the BA XR6T is a good car to get (she wants a run around car) and during the drive we saw 3 of them on the side of the road broken down (1 with nrma, 1 being put on a tow truck, and 1 with a bonnet up and a confused looking owner)... My sis wont get one now :( But its always the way... you say something... then the opposite happens.
-
I think Tuna's comments are very close to the truth... I have TRIED and TRIED to organise a group of fords to go to the drags, but very few fords wanted to go. 90% of the time I ended up hanging out with the LS1 crew all night. We had a track day at Oran Park a while ago, and only 7 fords turned up!! it was SUPPOSED to be fords only. Even the track day at Eastern creek had a piss poor turn out. I think there was about 10 fords, and that was pretty bad considering it was FREE!!! (there were more holdens there, that paid to be there!!) Oh - but have you noticed - that the people who say that they wont go to a track, cos they dont want to "thrash" there brand new cars, are often the same people who do 200+ km/h on public roads, and traffic light drag every chance they get..
