  1. I gave the new HSV 307 gts a run from a few sets of lights in perth a few weeks ago in my 03 ba t auto. I've got a basic HPF custom tune, cai and center muffler removed and found that if I could control the shift from 1st to 2nd without drifting two lanes sideways it was not even close between us. The beauty of the t with any decent custom tune is the effortless surge and adrenlin between 2500-5500rpm. I believe the xr6t as a package represents the best bang for buck on the market.
  2. hey guys, The company powerchip selling a $800 product called the 98 gold upgrade destroyed my BA 03 XR6T engine. If my expensive mistake 12 months ago can avoid someone else doing the same please don't do it. Go to a recommended and proven tuner like HPF or Nizpro instead.
  3. Hi all, I hope my past experience with bikes helps. About 3 years ago in brisbane I bought my first bike which was the honda CBR 250RR with twin front disk brakes. It was a fantastic entry level bike that handled braked and performed perfectly. However, it only took about 2-3 months of rideing until I got sick of larger capacity bikes including the very quick Aprilla 250RS spanking me from every set of lights and weekend group rides. The rules in Qld let you apply for a big bike license fairly quickly so I traded my bike on a kawasaki 2001 ZX6R and this was the best thing I did it cost me a fortune with the trade in, regular serviceing every 5000 Km's and tyres but the feel of power that the big bikes deliver is infectious. With bikes I found that it cost 5 times as much as I expected, with insurance and rideing gear the budget can quickly go into the red. my advice would be to get your learners permit on a hire bike and wait until you can get a big bike permit then invested in at least a 600 cc. Hope this helps.
  4. Thanks Turbo6man, I just wish I could drop it from a set of lights without worrying about drifting into the other lane and that is with only my 231 rwkw's I cannot imagine how the other guys go with alot more power than mine.
  5. Thanks FPV Tranny, At the track I run 26 psi in the rear with good results but my problem is on the street. Do you think 19 inch with 245 would really help or is the difference between 17's 18's or 19's minimal.
  6. Hi all, I have an 04 BA auto T with 17 inch factory mags (29 PSI in rear) and HPF tune of 231rwkw. I cannot get any traction of the line as soon as I reach 2700 rpm. What methods do you guys use in launching forward instead of drifting into the other lane? If anyone can help me let me know as an old HSV clubsport left me for dead the other night as I was sliding everywhere instead of going forward. Thanks
  7. Hi all, I had an interesting drive out of Melbourne last nite that I though I would share with you all. I was sitting in traffic not even thinking about trying to get home quicker and suddenly out of nowhere I get a new XR5T fly up on me and sit about a foot of my tail for a few km's. At that point I thought it was just a focus with spotlights until he pulled up just infront of me in the next lane to show me his credentials. I run a HPF custom tune and have a fairly large HPF sticker on the rear window which normally reduces the amount of people trying to have a go on the road so I was really surprised to have this guy sit on my arse and be so over confident in a focus. Anyway traffic was fairly heavy and I only lined up at one set of light in pole position, he sat behind me only to be disgraced from about 2300rpm onwards not even close, a standard wrx would pull harder. Blowing him away wasn't really any surprise for me yet his agression and self confidence to take on a XR6T really did. So anyway it probably won't be long before every kid has a XR5 which will make calder park interesting on a friday nite.
  8. 2003 XR6T Auto Sedan CAI with K&N HPF & Custom tune 220 rwkw @ 8psi (due to weak valve springs) centre muffler removed shell optimax stock 17 inch xr wheels Ran at heathcote raceway with around 20 degrees in temp 13.2 was the quickest at 106.2 mph Had real problems with traction particularly at 2000rpm stalling and then trying to launch. It also spun from 2 gear to third in all my runs. I know the power is down a little bit however it gave me my first low 13 second run and that is all I want in my everyday family car. I'm no rocket in contrast to some of you guys but I'm sure having fun.
  9. Thanks Bain. Do you still have this setup?
  10. They suggested it as a option for $160 during the custom tune. I think it provided a small rwkw increase.
  11. I paid $700 privately for the tuner its new and never been installed before. This was a better option than $950-995 from a business . Can anyone tell me what the T sounds like with the centre muffler removed as HPF has suggested it when the custom tune is done .
  12. Hi all just got my herrod stealth tuner in the mail and have booked the car into HPF for a custom tune in 2 weeks. I cant wait so I was going to load the 8psi program and give it a go but dose this need the plugs to be adjusted?
  13. Hi all, I have a quick question: can you install a APS phase 1 kit (injectors and unichip) that is brought 2nd hand to another XR6T straight away without it being dyno tuned? I have found that the 2nd hand price for these types of mods is getting cheaper and cheaper which is now making it possible for me to consider it. Can anyone that has the APS phase 1 setup let me know how they have found it? Thankyou
  14. Good post. It sums up the focus of their business. It is a generic product that is used from one car to the next with little allowance for the individual differences that each car would have coming from a factory production line. As I have found the benefits of their product = 15.3 at calder!!!! The thing I find most surprising from personal experience with a powerchip 98 Gold is that when it was returned to factory tune it felt great, no hesitation, and good solid pull from standstill. The xr6t is a fantastic well developed car that is one of the performance bargains of the century. With a cost of almost 50,000 new don't risk cheap high risk products stay with proven ones that the majority support with proven results.
  15. I thought I'd share my experience with the 98 Gold powerchip in my XR6T. Had the work done drove away. Took it to calder 1/4 15.5, 15.3. I spoke to them the following week about the performance and I was told that it had to be an issue with my filter, fuel pump, sensors, or a million other possible parts that my car has so I had it serviced with no issues yet the problem remained. In my opinion the product is not safe for the XR6T as mine was running out of fuel at about 3500rpm. The company is extremely hostile when you ask for a refund and are less than helpful when you have a problem. Don't do it as I learnt the hard way blowing $690. Try APS, Aussie car enhancements,HPF,nizpro or the other great tuners but not powerchip.
