What power did you run in Sydney, what mods have you???
-
Turbo is doing great. No issues. No change in tune. Too many of you guys running off to the tuner for nothing. Tuner likes it though$$$$$ But in saying that my boost tables are modded. You could have issues in the boost control area if stock tune. Don't know, just try, will just cut boost if issue.

I've done the copper and O' ring. It will hold good but you just got to be attention to detail and there is a bit involved. And at the end of the day a MLS done right will be easier and hold the power you are doing if all done right. I think alot of high power setups are still using a MLS in some form or another. With Copper my recomendation is to never overlap the wire. Also when installing the wire it takes ages to file the wire to make sure it abuts very tightly. Near enough is not good enough. Then the machinist needs to machine the groves for the correct stickout from the deck. I use about 7thou. Then the most critical part is you need to use Threebond or some sealer regardless and you got to make sure you have enough to sealer but not too much to squeeze out everywhere. I did do a Ford MLS on a turbo ED with Threebond on a drift car and it gets a thrashing and I think very good. So that's what I would stick with. I was even thinking of adding two more layers in the existing Ford MLS by using two gaskets to make one and spraying everything with Hylomar at one time. I don't think the stock Ford gasket has much give.

I would make sure attention is given to the cylinder head sealing side of things so that you can push the power later on. Eg, -would the Permaseal MLS do a better job than the Ford Factory MLS: Maybe -Would putting a sealer like Threebond 1211 on both sides of the head gasket help and is it worthwhile (hard to do right): I think its worthwhile esp on the Ford Factory MLS gasket. Steel on steel does not really seal up well on the water passages. - If you are going to touch the Factory finish of the Ford deck and head, will the machinist be able to replicate the required RA finish. The smoother the better. - I personally think 12mm studs torqued up 120ft/lb and even more is fine but something to consider also.

Tune Electronic Throttle To Make It More Responsive?
turbotrana replied to rollex's topic in ECU Workshop
Peppy, its called "The Ultimate Ford EFI Tuning Guide" for HP Tuners. Its a US publication that I bought online. It is encrypted so I can't copy, just read. Its not for Aussie cars but still applicable in some areas. There is also a "Sniper" tuning manual that has some good info. These are the main two that I know of and is where I got a main understanding learning the software. -
How easy could you prove something of this nature. Not very easy. Because of the nature of this business, gearboxes are gonna break, most legitimately and one every now and then helped along. But the young kids of today having so much money from mining work in WA just cough up the dosh and don't question anything. The best customer around.

Not gonna tell. But mechanics being as shifty as they can be (and you can say that for alot of trades) will do stuff to boost their net profit if the opportunity arises. Sometimes you really got to take a close look at personalities when dealing with people, and if they seem a bit hungry for money, its sometimes a bad sign. So my recomendation is in order to avoid a workshop who may do shifty stuff is to deal with people with nice personalities and people that you can communicate with. But when I say nice personality, I mean not when they are chasing your dollar, its when you have given your dollars and problems arise.

I can recommend a Perth workshop which will try to break/hurt your ZF when tuning and then sell you one of their reconditioned ZFs at an inflated price.

The 4 valve head does not help that off idle pull. -
The smell is pharkin annoying after a while. Follows you everywhere. You need a petrol tanker to follow you everywhere otherwise you are filling up every second day and you just can't fill up anywhere. For me stop/start driving seemed to drink 25l/100km. It was very expensive for me compared to 98. It will chew out your pumps/filters. The bigger pumps and injectors do affect the way the car drives. I certainly don't want to listen to pumps if I can avoid it. You have to put up with the Indian petrol station teller mumbling on about whether you have put the right fuel in your car. Its good for a 600+rwhp beast but up to 500rwhp just stick to 98. Someone else can put up the benefits like an increase in torque (if we havn't got enough already)

Who's Still Running The Original Heat Exchanger?
turbotrana replied to "Captain Retard"'s topic in Driveline Workshop
I changed mine when the FG was 3yrs old and now 2yrs later gonna change again. We have two E39 5 series BMWs and both run a similar setup but don't really hear about the BMW coolers failing. Maybe cause they are made in Germany I would think. Nevertheless came across these. Are they made any better?? http://www.motospecs.com.au/assets/files/downloads/Heat_Exchangers.pdf -
I gotta feeling, someone gonna loose their license this weekend.
-
Don't do it mate. You seem really green at it so I would not even attempt with people around anywhere.

When I had an E series I modified the pressure hose to remove the restrictor they put in the hose to make the power steering a little heavier. With the restrictor removed it was just the way I like it. Easy, and this also happens to be just the way I like my babes. I would think the B and F series have the restrictor somewhere. I have looked but could not see the crimp thing (the crimp is used on the E sereies) where they put the restrictor on the hose. Nevertheless if its on the hose you basically got to put on a new hose and just reuse the ends. I am thinking of doing this in my FG also if I can find the restrictor.

There seems to be a heck of alot of room inside that front bumper

Its got everything to do with your high mount setup. Too much heat has killed it and will kill your master cylinder also. I keep saying low mount is better but no one listens.

How much for supply F & R? -
Just out of interest Jet I did want to see what would happen with stock injector parameters and 700cc injectors . The OP did asked a valid question and it did trim enough to idle the car and I think it would have driven it provide you kept in closed loop. I never tried to drive it, Just a start for a minuite. My only adjustment to the Ford Australia tune ATM is : The injectors dialed in, Overboost threshold adjusted Last line in borderline knock table adjusted a little. Ford Australia did the tune at their tuning facility. I just made some adjustments to it. And the engine responds the way I want it.

700cc injectors start with stock injector parameters. But I dont think your gonna get far with 1000cc inj. Just buy HP Tuners, chuck in the injector data, adjust overboost, adjust one line in the timing map and you are ready for a thrash. ,
