  1. http://www.speedhunters.com/2015/04/everything-you-need-to-know-about-ethanol/ In this article the guy mentions he has a boosted 12.5:1 compression motor.
  2. Why are you getting a second hand turbo? Imo unless you are paying next to nothing for it it may not be your best option. On that note if you are paying next to nothing then it is probably stuffed. I had a gt35r sit in my kitchen cupboard for 2 years and it got a little sticky. As soon as it got an oil supply again it freed up.
  3. I was going to rely to that post the other day but either my phone or the forum wouldn't remove that quote from my text box.
  4. At the moment I mostly listen to Seether on YouTube with their acoustic set, One Cold Night.
  5. Better start checking then mate. Get the radiator gas analyzed if you suspect the head gasket and the radiator is bubbling. I paid $25 last time I had it done.
  6. Get the cooling system checked for exhaust gas. Will cost stuff all. If a plug is fouled from engine juice then it will miss and also not create the bangy bang that makes bubble bath in the radiator hole.
  7. Yep. They're in a box in the spare room.
  8. I played with my tune with the new turbo. I turned it up to no avail and ended up turning it down. Now it runs less boost and goes better. Gotta swap some of those stock parts out.
  9. I've done this and it makes tricky bolts and hoses not tricky. You will need a wife or mate like Ralph said.
  10. If your head is straight and you've done it before, more than once, then one day is doable with the right prep. The main difference in how long it takes is experience. Match porting is easy mate, you can check google for details. It's not like modifying the internal parts of intake or exhaust ports.
  11. Being organised and prepared will make it easier. Use freezer bags or little tubs for bolts etc and mark them. Keep everything clean. Have a tub setup with ample degreaser and a wire brush. Have the necessary tools close by and make sure your work area is clean. Have all your parts ready for install before commencing work so you can get it done in one go. Spend less time walking and more time working in regard to the last two tips. Did I mention make sure everything is clean? The list of what to do could be quite long depending on what you already know. If the head is off then why not pull it apart and clean up the factory casting? Port match the intake and the exhaust including the gaskets. You will have a chance to clean the valves and check the valve seats. Replace valve guide seals. Beers are important. Drink them when you're done and finished testing. I recommend 12 in 3 hours but your milage may vary.
  12. Undo the oil line. First post of the thread and the first picture is what you want. It's under the intake manifold. Follow your oil line. Read the thread for all the details you need.
  13. Fitted my gtxified turbo.
  14. Got it all together today. It is going through the stock crossover for now. I used some 2.5 inch ally pipe I had lying around from the turbo to the hotside of the cooler. It is quieter when spooling and flutters less when backing off than the stock turbo. I'm running 12 psi until 3k rpm then 15 till 4500 then 17 from there. This is to help with grip as well as to look after the driveline. I'll turn it up a bit more tomorrow and see how it goes. It does go a fair bit better than the stock turbo and doesn't fall over up top like it used to. All in all it what I was expecting. In saying that I wouldn't have done this upgrade if my turbo wasn't already stuffed. I need moar powah lol. It suits my car however as the internals and driveline are stock for now.
  15. That's good news Stripes.

  17. I ended up chopping up my actuator bracket and welding some flatbar in there to get it into the right position. I also had to trim the wg actuator rod about 4mm. I'll upload pictures of the actuator bracket tomorrow as I still need to weld some braces up the sides and paint it. The car looks like a stock bf xr6t. The paint is black with blue metal through it but looks black unless you're up close. The only give away that it goes better than stock is the front mount painted matt black and the 255 semis on the back.
  18. So I take my 2 year old's jumper off this morning and bopped him on the head with it. He looks at me grinning and says "Don't smack me....ya turkey!" My lame arse come back was "Don't call me a turkey....ya turkey. 2 year old one, dad none.
  19. No driving today. I don't have a circlip for the wastegate rod.
  20. Heh looks like I'll be "needing" a catback then.
  21. I'm picking my modded turbo up now. I'm looking forward to going for a drive this arvo and seeing how it goes.
  22. There's porn and then there's porn related subreddits... I'm pretty sure nothing can shock me now
  23. Ok then. It did sound a bit sus lol. I'll remember who to talk to for next time. I'm picking up my turbo from ATS today. I wonder why I can run gated boost, 12 psi, and others can't? Stock cat back maybe?
  24. Ok. It's in good hands then.
