Degreased under car to diagnose oil leak. The fresh oil from testing indicates either a faulty gasket at the top of the oil return line from the turbo or a faulty line. Will confirm when it cools down. Also cable tied pcv valve pipes due to popping off several times.

To further that train of thought, there is a large difference between an good mechanic and someone who specializes in their field.

Lol I edited the clutch part out of my comment because it has nothing to do with your engine failing.

If the mechanic had said rings then it has obviously passed the leak down test. If the timing chain has skipped enough to cause massive engine shaking then it is likely to fail a leak down test in every cylinder.

As a husband and father to 3 young children I empathize with your situation. Although there are a myriad of reasons that we could speculate upon, nothing is decided until your mechanic gives their diagnosis and offers various solutions. I do think that it is important to come to a conclusion about how the cylinder failed. Although forum members contributing to this thread aren't there with you to properly diagnose, I'm sure we can offer ideas as to how it may have failed. Your mechanic will know what to do. It is good news that there is no scoring of the bore. This will at least save some money if and when the engine is out for the block to be honed if indeed the issue lies with a broken piston or rings. You have a great car by the sound of it and take care of it well. From what you have said it isn't your fault that it is broken. My 2 cents in what could have happened to cause it? A failed or partially blocked injector had leaned the cylinder out and detonated. 5 years worth of detonation in one cylinder will break the piston eventually. Obviously this is just my opinion based on what you have told us. Your mechanic should know to check for all possible causes. You'll be ok and you'll have it sorted soon.

This. You wouldn't expect the rings to be worn out with the milage described from the op. With just one cylinder low it seems like a broken ring land or snapped rings in that cylinder. Obviously this would manifest immediately. I hope your mechanic does the right thing by you. With the problem solved you should be trouble free for a long time.

There won't be enough bite left in the cross hatch to bed new rings in properly. To fix the issue properly the engine will need the bottom end reconditioned at the very least. It may be cheaper to buy a second hand motor if the budget does not allow for repairs to the existing engine.

Something that made me feel good today was my 15 month old daughter Sophia. Previously she had largely disregarded me when 'mumma' was home and saw me as a backup cuddler/food bringer due to my lack of booby milk. Today she must have decided that I'm alright cos when the missus brought her to our bed this morning she gave me a nice big snuggle and a smile without the usual high pitched squealing and trying to crawl away.

$600 outright from the good guys.

As a former goat owner I'd hoped those destructive bastards were out of my life but now I'm inundated with them.

Ate beef jerky yesterday. 3km of floss later and much brushing finally released it today. Gets me every time.

I was lying on the couch yesterday, dying out the arse with a cold/chesty cough/headache etc. When I saw the fb notification I literally jumped off the couch and fired up the pc and forgot I was sick. The missus thought it was quite funny that I had gone from dead to grinning in half a second.

I bought a galaxy s5 today. My gs4 had a yellow bleed from the top left corner and had spread to nearly a quarter of the screen. Although I hadn't planned on more car parts I couldn't help but think of what could have been if I didn't need a new phone lol.

If I was in your situation and considering spending $6k or so I would get the equivalent of one of the spool forged rebuild kits. Google it for details. Your machinist will be able to get the parts cheaper than other advertised "kits". With all of the inevitable extras it would still only come to $4k tops if you can r&r the engine and assemble it yourself. Although I don't have first hand experience with them, there are some success stories on this website for a reputable engine builder/s if you can't do it yourself. That's just me though and you obviously need to consider your individual situation. All the best mate.

I didn't port my wastegate and (obviously) has the standard flapper. I can run 12 psi straight off the gate with the venom dump, cat and twin 2.5 pipes with the rest of the system stock. Maybe you wont need to? Also old mate said that he hasn't got around to updating their online stuff yet but it is available iirc.

I'm pretty sure all three parts are different between the bf and fg, though I could be remembering wrong. I called Venom before xmas and the bloke I spoke to was more than happy to discuss everything with me. I only pointed out the negatives earlier (before my morning coffee) and I forgot to add that ground clearance is as good as it possibly can be and I haven't had any issues whatsoever with height. I had no trouble aligning bolt holes and getting everything tight. The heat shield interference can be easily fixed with a blowtorch and ball-pein hammer with no ill effects to performance. It makes a nice whistling sound too if that's your thing.

I recently bought one for my bf and it hits on the steering heat shield. Welds and pipe lengths leave a lot to be desired internally where the 2 pipes join to the 3.5 inch pipe. Apart from no clearance with the heat shield it fitted up without any hassle.

That's a 700 litre deep freeze. Another Gumtree bargain.

The guy said he only bought it last year and had only cut about 10 tonne of wood with it. I tried it out this morning and it started first pull and just idled perfectly. I cut up a tree that I had pulled out last week with the 4x4 and it runs great. I payed just under half new price.

Well I bought a new second hand chainsaw today. A husqvarna 460. I'm looking forward to saving some money on firewood in the next couple of years.
