  1. What pisses me off is that I paid $200 for 16GB of Corsair Vengeance 2300MHz DDR3 ram for my pc last August and now it wont run at full speed without blue screening every 10 minutes It works at 1600MHz but if I wanted that I could have paid half. The other bit that pisses me off is that the closest store to return it to is a 35 minute drive away and if I want to swap it for a different brand then I have to go the store I bought it from which is roughly an hour drive...each way. Oh and I have to take at least 2 of the still safety/baby seated kids with me which can easily add an extra half an hour and usually a lot of screaming and complaining. Ah first world problems, aren't they grand?! Thanks for listening lol.
  2. That's a great result. Bar having everything done for free or winning the lotto, I think this was the best possible option for you, as it panned out.
  3. I was hoping for more blood but comical non the less.
  4. That's awesome lol. My wife runs a preschool program in a childcare centre and she would know exactly what your little one was on about!
  5. You aren't inept. If you knew nothing at all then you would be inept! You knew enough to get your car checked and fixed and that is more than some folks. As long as someone is genuinely looking out for you then you should be fine. IMO and others will agree, a turbo short block or a rebuild will be your better options at this stage.
  6. So I'm fixing my car today and the wife brings out our 15 month old daughter to say hi. The following conversation has kept us laughing all day! Wife to daughter: What do you prefer? Peanut butter or Nutella? Daughter: Tella. Me: What do you like bubba? Peanut butter or tella? Daughter: Tella! She says it clear as day and apart from mum and dad, her first word, today, was nutella! Mostly she says tella but she managed to say nutella. So funny and so cute.
  7. I meant na short block. Not ideal but doable cheaply and with a tune won't detonate. If there is more than 10 to 20 psi difference between cylinders in a motor depending if turbo or not then it needs addressing and should not be used as a replacement. The OP has already said she hardly flogs her car and isn't looking for more power so won't be running significantly more boost than stock. Clearly with higher comp and a tune the car will drive better than stock and some more power can be dialed in safely with minimal cost difference or detriment to longevity.
  8. I can think of a few possible solutions. Most of them will require your participation, some more than others. 1. Only the engine needs repairing so send the engine to your repairer in a box. The car can stay where it is. Your mechanic can fit it later. 2. If you have the logistics available then put the engine back on the mounts or in a box, the bolts etc in a box and put it all on a hired car trailer and take the entire vehicle to the repairer that way. You may have a friend that will help in this regard. Perhaps a forum member is close by and will help for costs covered and a big mac or two. If not a hire vehicle can tow. 3. RACV. They may cover the cost of a tow truck for you or at least part of the cost. Call them for details. 4. Your car or home insurance may help with the problem. Again, a call to them will determine if this is a viable solution. 5. Second hand turbo motor with above options. 6. Second hand high comp motor with a tune to ensure a lack of detonation, also with above options. 7. Speak to your mechanic or other reputed mechanics about the issue. Some guys will take the time to discuss your options even if you don't use them for the repair. They may have options available that haven't surfaced yet. I can suggest other options but that would only help someone that can rebuild a motor so are not applicable here. A Ford dealer in Victoria rebuilt the engine in my car before I purchased it, through their chosen repairer. I can't find the receipt right now but iirc it was closer to $10k than $5k. Good luck, don't rush the expensive decisions and let us know how you get on.
  9. Turned out that there was nothing wrong with the O2 sensor. The plug connector had melted and shorted out. I ended up just cutting it off and rewiring it. Plugged in the dongle and the voltage shows that it's working.
  10. Some clarity on the water issue. It is actually a thing. When water is introduced to the intake in minimal quantities, not poured, it will soften carbon that has attached to the valves and the pistons. The said carbon will then break up and disperse through the exhaust. This is not usually an issue with efi cars as the afr is usually a lot closer to stoich more often and does not build up as much carbon as cars from the 70s and 80s. We also have much better ignition systems which burn a lot more intake charge and accumulates less carbon inside the engine. The benefits of removing carbon from the cylinder are; reducing compression in extreme cases, removing sharp outcrops of carbon that can glow and cause pre ignition or detonation, removing particles that can build up and hold the valves open and more indirectly improve fuel economy through tune related retardation. It is acceptable to spray water into your throttle body with a hair dressing atomizer. This will cause no damage. IMO this is unnecessary for our cars as the carbon build up should be minimal given normal operating conditions. I don't think this has anything to do with the problem outlined in this thread but it seemed worthwhile to mention given the last several comments.
  11. Nope they have normal flavours and gross flavours. I'm pretty sure I had more gross flavours than anyone else so the jokes on me.
  12. A couple of packets of Bean Boozled jelly beans arrived today in the post. No one in my house knows I have them so they should be pleasantly surprised. Muahahahaha
  13. "Flawed argument. You can have no license and still drive a car on the road, you can also get pissed and drive a car with or without your license. You can also have your license, not be pissed have done a defensive driving course and still drive like an arrogant oaf ignoring the rules and showing no respect for other vehicles." Clearly there is a difference between what you can do and what you should do. Her point was that a licensing system should be in place, not whether or not the system could be flouted. IMO there should be mandatory licensing and registration to use any type of vehicle on public roads. Why should every single road user have to go through extensive and expensive training and also pay for every individual vehicle they want to to use on the road yet a cyclist can use the road as their personal bike track with zero experience or contribution to the upkeep of said roads? You mentioned your 4 cars Ralph. Rego would be $3000 per year in S.A. For my 6 cars it comes in at $4500 if I want to be able to use all of them, all year long, at any given time. A motorcycle license cost roughly $650 to obtain here. A car license isn't free either. A cyclist contributes nothing to use the same roads and has no accountability due the abovementioned factors. That being said, nothing is going to change the fragile nature of cycling on public roads and hence we should adjust our driving style to suit if necessary. For the paperback version dial 1800 I-WROTE-A-NOVEL. TL;DR 1. Register all vehicles on the road including bicycles. 2. License all road users including cyclists. 3. Don't drive like a dick.
  14. I don't know the details of the clip. Pretty sure I won't be riding my bike down the freeway any time soon.
  15. Some cyclists are like rabid dogs. They shouldn't be on the street but mostly you gotta avoid them.
  16. Yeah when I watched it I didn't want to see the outcome. The dude got lucky. I've been a cyclist many years ago and I've also been an impatient driver. Now days I just give the death wishers aka cyclists the extra few seconds they need to survive. It's a pain in the arse but so is cpr'ing a chopped up cyclist.
  17. Today I was just changing things in the tune to further my knowledge of hp tuners. The car was slowly leaning out at idle so I loaded up vcm scanner. The O2 sensor voltage was pinned at 1.6ish volts and I could see the fuel trim pulling fuel out. I guess it's time for a new O2 sensor.
  18. And there I was complaining about beef jerky being stuck between my teeth. On a side note I traveled through the Adelaide hills yesterday with my trailer to collect wood from a private block. I passed half a dozen cyclists and had to slow down to 10kph a few times to pass them safely up the hill. Going normal, legal speeds up montecute road could well cause a cyclist ko.
  19. Yep I could just mix in some beta alanine for the tingles and call it a proprietary blend. Weight loss pills don't work anyway, only diet will influence your weight.
  20. This is one that I "invented" myself after looking into "weight loss pills". Weight loss pill recipe: 1. 600 empty gelatin capsules from ebay $48 2. 200 grams caffeine powder from ebay $18 3. Digital scales to measure caffeine, also from ebay $12.95 Total $78.95 and makes 600 doses @ 300 mg each with some powder spare. This will last for nearly a year and with proper diet will put anyone where they want to be weight wise. Use 100 to 300 mg of caffeine in each capsule. Have one in the morning and one at lunch time with food. Try not to have any other caffeine eg; coffee, tea, energy drinks etc. Don't use more than 600 mg per day. More than 300 mg per dose usually causes nausea. Read up on the use and side effects of caffeine use as individual use will vary. Common sense goes a long way too which you must have as you cancelled your card once already.
  21. Tightened the turbo oil return bolts at the turbo about an 8th of a turn each and that stopped the leak. Gotta have good luck sometimes.
  22. My car leaked nearly 2 litres of oil yesterday. I found the leak and fixed it by tightening a couple of bolts on the turbo oil return about an 8th of a turn. Since when is fixing anything ever that easy?
  23. You blokes mean to say that "me" days actually exist after having kids? I thought I wasn't going to get one until I was 55 at least.
