  1. Hmmm. So is the tune stock? When I say a quick fix I mean that it takes sweet fa to make the changes that I've described to fix a tune related overboost issue. Tell us what the dyno shop did and said to help clear this up as well as anything else you know at this stage. What exactly were you quoted 2k for cos it can't have been just a tune?
  2. Lol 2k for a tune. Someone's bullsh*tting you mate. You only need a quick fix of the tune and a check of the afrs and boost level to get it sorted. It is cheaper to buy your own road tuning setup than to pay that price. There are a couple of quick and easy ways to fix the problem in the tune that would take less than 10 minutes. One is by tuning the desired boost so it commands more boost so it doesn't hit the cut and the other is by raising the overboost threshold so it has 5 psi overboost before it cuts out instead of 2.35 psi that a stock tune has. Either of these is a very quick way of fixing the issue BUT there is more to tuning than removing safety features or just turning up the boost. There could be other factors that prevent this turbo working correctly such as not being able to run low enough boost for the injectors or fuel pump as well as other parts not being up to the task. None of that can be fixed in the tune if the turbo won't turn down due to hardware issues. This info is all well and good if the tune is stock and it appears that it is but we won't know until it gets checked. Edit: My point is that is could well be a very quick fix (potential hardware issues aside) that shouldn't cost more than a few hundred dollars with a quick check on the dyno.
  3. You would expect it to do that with the new spring as the wg duty cycle will be acting upon that rather than a stock spring. There is more boost commanded in the middle of the map and it drops off up top in a stock tune. That'd be why it half sorted it. The threads only 3 pages long man. Have a read. He has the 3584 kinugawa.
  4. Who's to say there are any other problems?
  5. No it shouldn't be. The symptoms point to hitting the overboost cut due to having an aftermarket turbo with a stiffer wg spring. As such checking the tune is the first thing to do. With the new info regarding the newly swapped spring it certainly points to the tune being stock. There are two options to fix that; replace the turbo with a stock unit or tune the car to suit the current turbo. There is enough info in the thread to show that.
  6. You gunna buy a genuine gtx comp cover? Why not put those funds toward a gen 2 gtx supercore?
  7. Swap the cap and see how it goes.
  8. Mine reads 96.6c cruising and 101c when flogged on hptuners. The gauge shows 1/3rd regardless. FYI thermosyphon is an effect that takes place in nearly all cars. It is not xr6 specific. That is the reason that coolant takes the route it does.
  9. Don't I? Please show us the quote where you "said" this. Brb flow testing every injector on the planet.
  10. K31th ya ballbag. There is a part number on the side of the injector. Read it and then google it.
  11. It'll be in a tray due to the setup. I'm just contemplating a marinade and also a home made bbq sauce for finishing. Haha you can tell I've been watching youtube. Edit: better let you get your coffee man.
  12. I hadn't thought about it but now that you mention it I do have some rolls in the freezer.
  13. Only quoting cos I have a lamb shoulder that is getting a slow roast in the bbq later today. I'm gonna chuck some plum sticks in too just cos.
  14. Rollmops. Lovely. Pickled herring and onion. Huff...my wife loves them...not.
  15. Yeah man. Get your runs overlaid and see what just changing only a housing does with no tune changes.
  16. I was watching some old 0 to 100kph runs with my stock turbo today and it came on much quicker than it currently does. I've noticed that going from the stock cast wheel in a stock housing to a gtx wheel in a non ported .7 housing added spool time and moving up to a gen 2 gtx66mm supercore added more spool time again. The mid range changed a fair bit each time and the top end only really came alive with the latest turbo.
  17. The guy who put a gtx wheel into a .7 housing for me said that the wheel would be choked by the smaller housing. Obviously all compressors can be pushed to the choke line with a big enough turbine but in saying that I haven't plotted what the various combinations will do on a Barra. @JETURBO would you care to add to this? I'd just yell fish myself but then again I'm a slack arse these days.
