  1. If ya didn't know now ya do...Ran the wife's 2012 Lancer today, managed a respectable 85kw to the front wheels. It goes very rich up top, I reckon just a fuel change would get it to 90kw.
  2. They are an unavoidable part of life after 40. Each day I don't sh*t myself I count as a win
  3. I'm nearly 50 and did a skid in my driveway today
  4. On 98 you can get nearly all the gains with road tuning a barra. You can also get all the gains if you know how much timing to run on E85. Knowing how to do those things is the trick and using a dyno will certainly give you an edge for future road tuning. I'll get the mower out later and see what it makes lol
  5. Oh well looks like I'll be running up this LS3 olden tomorrow instead. Maybe I'll chuck the wife's lancer on for sh*ts and giggles.
  6. I've been tuning my VN while I'm waiting for old mate. I did a bunch of steady state tuning and made a lot of low end gains. One spot went from 28kw up to 40kw, that's huge! Also made a bit more power up top. That's pretty good for an old school 5 litre!
  7. Haha I've been for a passenger ride in this one, it goes alright. It definitely needs some boost added to it, maybe I can talk the owner into it
  8. Got an LS3 powered caprice coming in for a power run today, should make some decent numbers
  9. I use a drill and a wire wheel, gets it done in around 5 to 10 minutes.
  10. Yep I'm slowly working it out. It's different than the Dyno Dynamics AWD I was using at work, but it won't take me long to have it sorted
  11. It's not slow but it ain't turbo barra fast
  12. I have a 5L VN so I chucked that on the dyno today, it made 153rwkw with the air filter on and 161rwkw with it off.
  13. They don't need sealant. Just make sure there are clean surfaces for it to seal against.
  14. The o'rings go hard over time and leak slightly. With a trust 10mm socket, undo the retaining clamp, pull the tube out, remove the old o'ring, clean the pipe and the hole it goes into, give the new o'ring a touch of silicone spray to help it slide in, do it back up.
  15. Got sick of waiting so set it up in the driveway. I ran my Honda Integra up a couple of times, plenty more time was spent setting it up and learning the new software but we're here now. Anyhow it made 70kw at the front wheels a few years ago and still makes the same pretty much. Better quality pics will come in the future, the screen was dirty, the sun was reflecting and insert other excuses here.
  16. I mean it still does everything a stock one does, it's just a bit louder. I need a better trans cooler so I can tow the caravan, but that's about it for practicality.
  17. She's experienced it of her own volition but reluctantly and she is not a fan at all. While it does have a lot of power, you can't really use it often and certainly not with other people in the car that don't like it.
  18. It's extremely quick and it pulls relentlessly. The tyres are the weak link and I'll keep it that way, I'd rather go through tyres than axles etc. At this level sh*t breaks, there's not much you can do about it but fix and repeat. The trans and engine seem pretty solid for now so that's something.
  19. Any farken way, I did car work on the territory and it's sorted now. Running 45psi on E42, boost cut at 50psi, 17 degrees of timing, no knock, 95% injdc, iat's climbing quicker than a monkey up a light pole. Makes the plaz front mount look like a stock top mount. It pulls pretty flamin hard, obviously making somewhere over 750kw. Farken other car can wait until I can be stuffed fixing it. The end.
  20. Yep fark me right?! The turbo made a zinging noise on the way up there, I reckon it's the backing plate or whatever is behind the compressor wheel. Not a big deal, got there, stayed the night, went to fix it this morning and the nut decided it was taking the bolt with it. Lucky the intercooler pipe held the turbo in position so it could be driven home. Also blew a head gasket in the Landrover towing the caravan. So basically a waste of time and money, I could have stayed at home and done nothing and be nearly a couple grand better off for it.
  21. Made it to the track, vband on the turbo broke. No racing, going home early, fark this sh*t.
  22. Here's a pic of the stuffed head gasket, farken farkers farked! This gasket was a cheap one, suitable for maybe 15 to 20psi tops. Even a high quality MLS will only hold 30psi or so, only decent options for the barra are Athena split ring gasket or copper fire ring gasket. Might be worth looking to 14mm head studs in future as well.
  23. Eh don't worry about it, I'm just a cranky bastard at times, especially when I'm working on a car.
