  1. Got a full service done today by my local mechanic who builds race cars and boats for a living and he was as stumped as I am. He tested everything and is very interested to find out why the smell is only in the cabin and comes and goes as it does... still strong but not as much as the first few days. Gave it some on the way home to test if the intercooler kicked in when parking it up at home and it didn't which I found strange as it will in any temp over about 24ish for around 30 seconds. The intercooler would not create the smell as it does not run the coolant so again scraching head. Surely someone else here has had a similar problem? .... Will be calling Power Ford tomoz and booking in, it's the only surviving dealer close to me Keep you updated on the outcome
  2. Yes it is at the bottom of the tank, the top looks good but when I opened the tank after it cooled it is definitely the smell that I get in the cabin. I bought the car at PowerFord Castle Hill which is along way from my job atm, but will take it out there asap. The last FG (non turbo 77000k's) that I owned only needed the rear tailshaft rubber replaced at the final month of warranty, They were great so I hope the same happens this time round. I guess half day loss of pay is better than a buggered motor... still did not expect this at 26000k's The only thing I have done Mod wise is drill a couple of holes in the bottom/side of the airbox plus a K&N to get a better burn.. apart from this it's a fantastic ride.. Will miss the Barra dearly when Ford goes offshore Thanks for the ideas guy's
  3. Hi Guys, Just signed up so bare with me on this one I own a 2012 MkII Turbo with 26000k's on the clock 4 days ago I went to start the car as usual and drive off, the car gave 3 small shudders and I thought nothing of it. The next morn the same thing happend but about 20 seconds up the road I got a very strange strong smell like 'maple syrup' entering the cabin, pulled over and had a look under the hood and nothing, no drips or smell so off I went to work. Later that day I gave my work colleagues a lift home, about 3k's into the trip I asked one bloke if he had leftover fish from lunch in his bag cause a different smell suddenly entered the cabin after sitting at the lights. One bloke said it smelt like coolant and then it got worse, I pulled over and checked the engine bay again, no leaks, full coolant level for hot but there was a little what looked like oil that had come from the intercooler pipe where it joins the turbo and a little fluid on the right side of the block under the intercooler logo over the head where the airbox and intercooler meet (See pics below) All temps normal but I feel the turbo maybe lacking a little plus the transmission feels a little different. It is now the 5th day and the smell continues, much stronger when under acceleration and sometimes it just give a burst of stink out of the blue. Again no sign of leaks of depleted coolant nor no sign of discolor in the oil... but the cabin stinks of fishy coolant all the time. Any Ideas?
