  1. Based on 1.2mm wall tube, 5876mm2 for single 3.5" and 5864mm2 for twin 2.5"...close or close?
  2. Sounds right to me I've seem the phrase "half a hole preload" thrown around a bit too...sort of tech spec I like lol
  3. Was going to ask the same question sometime soon So is that amount of preload pretty std across the board regardless of turbo, actuator etc.? I need to set preload on the billet wheeled GT3582 I got together for my FG Though the guy before me put a cut in the actuator outer rod and then by the look of it squeezed it in the vice to keep from moving... so if possible I will be just adjusting the rotation of the front cover to suit, at least as far as cooler pipework allows. And then I'm guessing the idea is to hit the actuator with compressed air with a gauge in the line to check psi that actuator flapper cracks open? Appreciate any pointers and/or constructive criticism, cheers
  4. Have commented on your comments... first ones anyway
  5. Great thread Would love to weigh in but it would take me all day
  6. ^^^ Will be doing the above in a few weeks, good to know
  7. Fair enough Twin 2.5 or single 3.5 be fine up to 450 but makes sense to go for 4" if you're intending to go further I guess There's an ebay seller who has a full turbo back 4" staino xforce system for FG sedan, $2300 they should be able to source for ute as well Whether they'll split a system to not include dump pipe is another question
  8. Did they definitely say 4" exhaust or maybe just 4" dump...? It all comes down to what you want to get out of it power-wise. Do you want to get 300rwkw? 500? What mods have you got or planned? The std turbo is going to run out of puff long before a twin 2.5" or single 3.5" cat back exhaust becomes a restriction. I'm a stainless steel fabricator and love the stuff but couldn't really justify the extra cost at the time. Differences are that it won't rust - well not for a lot longer anyway - and will look a lot prettier out of the box. Some say they sound different, and some also say wall thickness is thinner on staino systems - because it doesn't have the same corrosion issues it can get away with it - which would definitely make a difference to sound. Re 4" system, be aware there could be a fair bit more drone, a mate of a mate's car apparently had this issue.
  9. Any particular reason you want 4"? Single 3.5" or twin 2.5" way more common/easy to find and will support 400rwkw+ damn some guys still running std exhaust with 4" dump & 5" cat and making good power, apparently the stock system has decent flow I've got xforce 4" dump, 5" cat and twin 2.5" cat back on my FG ute, can't fault it, only mild steel - cat is stainless though Fleabay is your best bet
  10. Like the thread name... anyone done this? I'm about to go from growler to turbo side and wondering if cutting a hole here would help maximise air flow. Any suggestions?
  11. How about this then... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FG-FORD-XR6-Turbo-OEM-Garrett-Replacement-GT3540R-12-month-warranty-/151405076929?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276 - 0.7 cover - 11psi actuator - flapper mod done if pics to be believed $750 + 12 month warranty..! obviously a copy, you can't even get a (genuine) core for that price I hate stuff that is too good to be true Always thinking...what if???
  12. CMS quoted me $800 supplied and fitted the other day, not sure what brand though
  13. Not keen at all to source anything from China but the way its going it looks to be my only option... As for 'R for replica' I'd say its probably a pretty poor replica lol Obviously there's no warranty or anything, though $620 AUD is pretty attractive for a full gtx3582 incl front and back housings!! Though you'd probably;y want to bin the housings asap if u got it Cheers mate will give him a ring
  14. Hey guys, I know its a long shot but does anyone know where I could source a replacement bearing pack for a GT3582? Managed to destroy mine and MTQ advised that they're no longer sold as a separate item They are going to try to locate one, but don't have high hopes. No way I'm paying $900+ for a new chra, would rather get a whole new turbo Looks like this will do the trick if all else fails but thought I should try the trusty forum first http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/111124857415?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
  15. ah yeah at 2800 he's dreaming alright I was only looking at starting price of 1900 Its the gtx3576 on special at 1350 though isn't it? Not the gtx3582 that this clown is selling Interesting to see what it goes for anyway
  16. Where did you pull 3500 from? Starting price is 1990 New gtx from MTQ is $2046 + $836 for turbine housing so total of say 2900 And the listing includes oil lines - cost $150-200 - and exhaust manifold which will set you back anywhere between $150-300 on fleabay Admittedly there's always the unknown when buying a turbo off ebay but would cost you over $3k to buy that lot What am I missing?
  17. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GTX-35-82-R-GARRET-TURBO-GTX-35-82-R-DBB-incl-f6-fg-exhaust-manifold-oil-lines-/271580015421?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f3b6e2b3d&_uhb=1 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FPV-F6-FG-FORGED-ENGINE-ATOMIC-698-GTR-KIT-/271575355935?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f3b27121f&_uhb=1 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/F6-FG-FPV-parts-available-/271576315284?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f3b35b594&_uhb=1 Anybody on here? Would wonder why he's selling it
  18. Joe at cms did say he can tweak timing to minimise lag on the 3582
  19. Already got the 3582 billet wheel not keen to lose any more response though so staying with 0.5 cover Though your repeated comments of how u miss the response of the std turbo is sorta making me waver! Too bad I will just prepare for lag city and anything better is bonus
  20. sweet I managed to absolutely destroy the core of the 3582 I have and hoping to utilise my original 3576 core...still a better solution even if it needs bearings replaced, rather than $800-1000 for new core...
  21. Guys bit of a hijack but is the 3576 core same as the 3582?
