  1. So I think I have had a win and nailed the cars issue with the missfire.. Intank fuel pump seems of of been sh*tty.. I guess that checks out as when my old car (with the same intank pump, but different surge) was tuned by a Adelaide workshop it started to lean out uptop on 98 then it cleared its throat came good and never nailed why it had a lean out on 98.. Then when Bluepower tuned it on e85 they ran into a lean issue where it should of been fine still (at 413rwk) and they tried a couple of sets of injectors and a different surge tank setup (I run a plazzy setup with a peirburg pump - they tried with 044 pumps).. Anyway overtime the car got hard to start and I though the surge pump was rooted after 12,000kms by passed it and ran it off just the intank and it started like it should.. then it started and would miss after 10 seconds, tried a mates fuel pump assembly and whalla was all good again.. So who knows maybe the issues both tuners had was the intank pump was struggling to keep up with the surge? I dunno I'm no tuner.. Anyways So I replaced the intank which was a walbro 255lph pump with a walbro 250lpg as they are apparently e85 compatible and the 255 isnt? Only issue I noted when I ran the car off just the 250 was it was hard to start; had a 4ish second crank time but then I read that the 250 doesn't have a check valve to that explains why there.. Hooked the surge back up and it seems to be starting and behaving like it should of the whole time.. Walbro 250lpg left, and 255lph right Anyways never actually posted good pics of the car, so here goes - finally clean and ready to be registered after being off the road since mid november 2020. Pretty keen to put some kms on her and get it in the shop for a retune, thinking of going PCMTEC and making the best of what it has, as I already have a innovate motorsport ECB-1 gauge which can be used with PCMTEC for E85%... Currently its a dinosaur and still xcal3 tuned!
  2. having a missfire gremlin at the moment if anyone wants to throw some ideas at me on what to look at/try next - link below.
  3. So my car has decided that a missfire about 10-15 seconds after start up is exactly what the doctor has ordered for it! So far I am scratching my head with it as I had done the following... Spark plugs genuine Coils genuine put stock injectors back in stock tune file loaded up changed fuel reg tried NA fuel reg, map and PCM to rule out a PCM failure I do have a new genuine fuel filter to go in but waiting on flare spanners before I attempt that; I don't want to test fate with my luck of late with this car!.. it starts on all 6, but like I said after what feels like 10-15 sec it will run like a hairy billy goat.. The car hasn't been driven but about 7-8 months but has done a bit of idling here and here.. No fault codes are being stored, and do a key on, engine on and key on engine off on forscan and its not coming up with anything I am thinking of trying to hunt down another in tank fuel pump assembly and trying that (surge tank is bypassed for now) but even then that's not making alot of sense to be since it starts on all 6? But when I pull coils, or injectors when its running you can't really isolate it.. Any idea what else to look at? Thanks lads
  4. Thought before I'd send my cam cap to BluePower that I'd see what a local engine builder thought about it, left it with him went back a bit later and he got it out for $30 so I thought that was a win.. Got all new replacement rocker cover bolts from Ford, I figure if I snapped 1 the others are probably going to be hit and miss.. I do know there is a helicoil in one of my rocker cover bolts so I am thinking that I might wipe the thread locker off the new bolts just to play it safe incase it has to come out again down the track. Should see the car going on the weekend now so happy days!
  5. That I saw it on facebook! Interesting car, and good read man!
  6. Yeah I did that. Spoke to my tuner, I can either send the cam bridge over to melbourne and they'll sort it or a local engineer said he can give it a go.. being they are line bored to the head and you can't replace them I might just send it over to BPRD and let them sort it out they said they've seen it a couple of times and have had success with it.. A few mates have said they've got them out with easy outs, but I dont think I wanna try myself as I'm pretty sh*t with a drill and always end up on the piss 😒
  7. Unfortunately I live in little old Mount Gambier and don't get upto Adelaide much. Had a oh sh*t moment today, putting the rocker cover back in, snapped a bolt for it in a cam cover. Not too sure if I will get a ezy out and try to tackle it myself or send it into a shop to be sorted out.
  8. I have the pics but unsure which ones were used. Anyways, g6e 19s are on and instantly happy again with with car works on them.. the anniversary 19s, silhouette paint, china beige interior, sunroof all pull together to make a sweet package. Then add in some boost! Anyway I need to pull my figure out I've got 3 weeks off work coming up and got a planned 3000km roadtrip I wanna do, and I'd rather take take fairlane over the VF Calais to be honest. Plus this car was built to be enjoyed. Just need to find some decent lock nuts, and the correct centrecaps. Oh and wash the damn thing. Are there many blokes on here from SA go roll racing?
  9. Pulled my surge loom out, and well not too sure what was the go there but it was rooted to say a understatement. Melted in 3 spots, some male/female joiners in it and the insulation on them was melted.. all up the sh*t so making a fresh loom from scratch. Actually wondering if my pump was trash or the wiring was trash and took the pump put or maybe vice versa, but with the surge bypassed for now it stars like a normal car still. Also impulsive bought new wheels for the fairlane too during the week. 50th anniversary g6e 19s, so it should look good, just gotta pick them up. Cars been off the road for almost 7 months the so getting keen to get it back on the road and hopefully all the niggly issues sorted.
  10. Going to be re-doing the loom for the surge pump after seeing my existing one is melted. Anyway, my current one gets its power source from the back of the starter motor and I have the relay bolted to the PCM bracket, but I am hearing alot of people say to have it all at the fuse box.. Is there any location that is better out of the two?
  11. Great thread! bit of a sleeper 10/10 im a fan!
  12. I'm not upto spec on FG's, but I know with B-series cars with a premium sound floor loom also has the wiring to the a pillar connector for the mirror.
  13. having a dig around today at my surge wiring and a discovered that the wiring from the fuse holder is melted which isn't exactly ideal. Seems when my loom was made (back in the day it had a single 044 not the peirburgh) it had some thinner wire coming from the fuse holder, then went to some thicker gauge stuff.. I'm not too sure if this would be enough to of upset the apple cart and made the car be a complete pain in the arse to start.. I've also had my tuner and another shop tell me to have the power for the surge from the fuse box.. Currently it comes off the back of the starter, which works but I've been told isn't 100% ideal so I'll have to replace part of the loom so I'll re-route that at the same time. I just wanna get the car upto spec now some issues are sorted - and see if it can make the power on e85 that it was spouse to make, and go PCMTEC flex tune. And now there is E85 on pump in Mount Gambier I am more motivated to get it sorted out! it had issues leaning out on e85 when it was being tuned, which I think I have since sorted out which ironically enough so did my old car this was re-shelled from but that had a different pump setup..
  14. yeh unsure mate, I was talking to my tuner and it had me stuffed, they haven't seen one fail either.. I figured I'd by-pass the surge as 1 last attempt to to fault find before the 3000km headache of getting it into the shop.. If I let it sit overnight with the connected the next day it was a total dog to try and start - even sitting for a few hours it would be a pain.. I went back to stock tune, stock injectors and it was the same.. I left it for 5 days without touching it on just the in tank pump and it was like a normal car to do a cold start on again.. Tuner said it did sound like maybe the pump was lazy when cold AFR's according to the gauge were fine though.. Unless it is a issue with the harness I use for the surge..
  15. Had to make a new account, I'm not sure what went on there.. I think I had logged in via facebook some how last time and can't anymore? Anyways... This poor car is starting to look pretty sad and sorry for itself.. Bought a new car last year (don't shoot me! 2014 VF Calais V V8 sportswagon) and the fairlane and put in the shed and forgotten about.. Did take it roll racing in october last year at the bend, that was a cracker night, but car was slow and was only on 98... While it spend 7 months parked up it devolved a starting issue where it was a real *beep* to start like a 1974 victa 2 stroke mower with a fouled spark plug! Would take 5 attemps at cranking it to get it to get and it would eventually fire.. Bypassed the surge tank and it seems to be back to normal now.. Has anyone here had a issue with the peirburgh fuel pumps on the plazmaman sure tanks? It's only 12,000kms old but has sat around quite a bit.. I want to get back into this car and enjoy it, as nice as the 6ltr VF is, and personally I do like it more as a "road/drive car" the lane is the pride of the fleet. it's starting to resemble a barn find these days! And looking all nice and stock like on the way to roll racing!
  16. To use the BF PCM there will need to be a loom swap for starters, and possible ABS module replacement, which ill mean a AC regas as you gotta swap a AC line to swap the module.. Is it a auto or manual PCM /ECU you got?
  17. Small world hey! It's not that bad of a place down here, can get boring easily though!
  18. Cheers mate!, yeah this year at the drags we had some twins. I didn't mention that but during the build I fitted a BF Turbo 2.73 M86 LSD, and complete rebushed the car with superpro front to rear.. When I picked it up at the tuner I asked why did I drop all this coin into a old B series hah! truth be told if I bought a FGX which I really want I wouldn't be able to afford to mod it and this is faster so meh! and sedate/sleeper
  19. Cheers mate! Yeah its done as it would of been from the factory using a facotry BF turbo computer, hell even down to the cluster its a 270kmh turbo territory brushed look cluster since turbos generally go to 270 as apposed to the NA 220 clusters! Bluepower was surprised how well the car was put together when they go it it, was great hearing that from a tuner actually.
  20. Though I'd do a quick introduction to myself and my car there. 2005 BA2 Fairlane Ghia ZF 6HP26, freshed up by JRM Transmissions in adelaide with exceedy 1000hp clutches and new bushes BF2 XR6T motor with spool H beam rods, head studs, plazmaman valve springs, XR6T Developments oil pump gears, assembled by henrich in adelaide Gen 1 GTX3582 plazmaman 1200hp cooler, 4" turbo side intake bosch 1150cc injectors, plazzy surge tank with peirburgh pump, walbro 255lph in tank pump FG Turbo intake manifold xforce 4" dump 3.5" cat twin 2.5" cat-back BA premium brakes with braided lines whiteline 30mm front 22mm rear sway bars BluePower Racing Developments tune, 377rwkw on 98 at 16psi, 417rwkw on e85 - has more room in it on e85 but still trying to find a issue. GJ Drive line Pro series tail shaft Hollandia 700 S2 sunroof The cars story Car started out as a 2005 BA MK2 Fairlane Ghia, had it offered to me last year relatively cheap and though I couldn't knock it back for its price, it was very clean inside out considering it was a black 285,000km family car for 8 years! First thing I done when I got it home was fit a set of G6E 19's, massive upgrade; and a much needed wash! (that's my old BF Fairlane Turbo back in the background) Anyways, that was in, fitted some BA XT head lights and just daily'd it for a while, took it to Ford Forums Drag Nationals last year where it took out best burnout, don't know how it was a stock single spinning BA 4spd auto! About 2 weeks after that, some old bloke decided the wanted my lane (literally!) and hit me coming out of a round about, after a but of a stuff around, they wanted to write the car off - fair enough its was only a NA BA Fairlane, I got it sorted out - at this stage I had already bought a new daily driver (BF2 Fairmont Ghia).. My other fairlane - a BF Ex taxi was getting a bit tired in the chassis after 760,000km and some major crash repairs a couple of times on the rails. So it seemed like a good idea to reshell the it to the BA! As it was a nice tight good car with only cosmetics being damaged. This is when the car started to become a night mate yet a some what "fun" build in the process! The engine from my the other car was at a tuning shop in adelaide getting a quick freshen up with spool H beam rods, rings, bearigns, head studs; it already had valve springs and oil pumps gears (was a BF2 XR6T motor) after the vacuum line came off the turbo and had a slight overboost! Once that was back, and my car was back from crash repairs then the fun task started of converting the car from BTR to ZF, which is actually a relatively straight forward conversion. Just had to change all looms, front brake lines, abs module, ac line that runs under abs module, and drill a couple of holes. My biggest hurdle was my floor loom from my old BF was catcus was full of corrosion so I depinned all the ZF associated wiring and pinned up to the BA BTR floor loom. While in the build fitted a Innovate Motorsports ECB-1 gauge which is a 4 in 1, does boost, ethanol content, ethanol %, and AFR's. After all that it was time to get the sunroof fitted from my old car which I had fitted to that 18 months prior brand new, so sunroof center at dandenong took care of that! Since they installed it to my old car originally they looked after me. After the build the car was taken to Melbourne and tunned by Chris at Bluepower, 377rwkw on 98, and 417 on e85. In my opnion what a great sleeper this car has became! Future plans for it? Once I sort out the e85 issue a retune on e85 and just enjoy it I'm probably done with its mods now I've sunk too much into it for a old BA! Alltho a tune again down the track with PCMTEC for flex fuel would be good! Left lane here was my PB out of the car so far, I'd like to see it go well into the 11's though. And because I had brand new MT's I though I better break them in :/ and got too carried away! Was too long between skids.
