The car will make what it makes really. With the stock motor in place I think 16psi is around the limit I'd like to see. Though once again the car will say when it's had enough and when and where it makes best power/torque. It'll be a matter of how much timing the car will take at x boost level with the exhaust fitted. I'm looking for something over 350rwkw and then anything else after that is a bonus. Jack

Indeed! I will be allowed to drive the car for no more than 1 1/2 hours at a time with a minimum of 45 minutes inbetween driving it again. For 2 weeks... good things had better come to those who wait!!!! haha Jack

Theo came down to my work today to collect my car. It does help that I work only a couple of minutes from the workshop. Me being a complete knob still don't have the locknut for the wheels... it's at my brake guys house once that was sorted through, the TrueTrac has been fitted with the wheels still on the car. Disconnect brake lines etc... not the easiest way of doing it. But the BPR boys are troopers! When faced with a knob customer like me they just negotiate their way around it and still get the job done! Here is the diff assembly, wheels and all now fitted with Harrops finest and CAT600's bushes. It will be fitted back to the car tomorrow morning. The back part of the exhaust will be fitted too. Due to having a brand spanking new diff, bearings etc the car will be returned to me to do a 1000km run in period to bed in the bearings in the diff. Theo has told me I'll get a tune with a 3000rpm limit clearly they don't trust me... I'll then head back after 2 weeks (which is 1000kms for me) and they will complete the tuning on the car with 2 wheel drive. Coming along nicely! Jack

Nice mate! You'd be heading for 500 at the wheels with turbo yeah? Madman! Love it! And FG50T thanks mate! It's back at BPR today and tomorrow for the exhaust and TrueTrac! Perhaps 16psi too... hehe can't wait! Jack

Very true Adam. I never even thought of that! If I've disconnected the battery for any period of time I let the car idle for a couple of minutes and then take it around the block. Jack
-
that's the first thing you need to check. From one tank to the next. You fill it up to what you consider full and then run it all the way to what you consider to be empty and then fill it up again. Once you've done this, divide the litres filled by the km's travelled and multiply by 100. For example. 45 litres for 300km x 100 = 15L per 100k's. If you've only recently disconnected the battery then the figure will be either inflated or deflated depending on how you have driven the car after the battery was disconnected. This is made worse immediately if you have done the battery and then taken the car for a hiding around the block. It'll show a history of what you have only just done. Not lifetime of the car. Jack Edit-The factory trip computer is a pessimist at the best of times. My history with my 3 Fords is that the actual is always better than indictated.

Hey Matty! Sorry I missed this one... New turbo? What are you going for? I can't believe I missed it... And with regard to not running more than 18psi I think that is a good compromise with the stock engine still in place. If the car sees a built motor at some stage then maybe more boost. Right now... I know, I know famous last words... I can't see myself pushing well in to the 400rwkw zone with this car. In my head it'll just start breaking stuff and then become a really expensive excercise rather than just an expensive one haha. Jack

Sorry Dags... I'll try and stop mate. Jack

Nice choice of bus for starters!! Sounds a bit like when Homer bought the bowling ball for Marge in The Simpsons... just watch out though as if you remember Marge started bowling!! haha Having just gotten my car back today with it being at Bluepower for a week, I got back in mine and it is every bit as good as I remember it! +1 here for the Koni setup. I sometimes take a country style 'B' road home from work and it can get very bumpy in places even though 100kph the whole way. The koni's aren't harsh or choppy at all over the bumps, some of which are off camber. Stock suspension didn't cope very well at all with the bumps whereas the koni's just ride the bumps, soak them up and keep the car planted. Very impressed. Jack

Cheers David! A full exhaust wasn't in my original plans, but I cannot argue with cold hard facts either. I've gone the GTX... so now it's time to really let it sing! Jack
-
Yeah it was Dillz, the boys at BPR couldn't quite work it out. Perhaps I just have the one that isn't quite as good as the others. We'll add that one to the why didn't I just got the whole hog to start with... one hit wonder so to speak. Full exhaust will be fitted next week, so will be heading for 16psi but the car will take a heap more timing too. Looking for something close to 370rwkw with the exhaust fitted should a right laugh mate... not that the way it's set up right now isn't! Just a little bit more won't hurt... Jack

Well.... where to start. My goodness me... this car hauls every kind of a@s. Even with the one wheel drive. Ohhhh yes the induction roar is just something to behold! The let off when getting off throttle means business. Keep off boost, which is far easier now with the bigger turbo and it's quiet as a mouse. Wouldn't even know it was modded. Stand on the loud pedal and 7 kinds of hell break loose and off heads the G6 missle down the road, fighting for every tiny little piece of grip it can from the poor Toyo T1 Sport providing all it can! The nuts and bolts first of all. The cat replacement pipe I bought for the car with the express intention of keeping the factory exhaust was fitted and is now no longer fitted. As tuning commenced on the car it was found to be holding back the power, initially it was thought to be the PWR intercooler on the car but after some testing back to back it was found to be the cat, it required too much of everything to be commanded through the tune to make power. The boys have put a stop gap measure in for now as the car will now be fitted with a full Di Fillipo 3.5" system on Monday/Tuesday when the TrueTrac is fitted. Bring on maybe 370rwkw who knows. I hope so! For the record and dyno princess stuff the car made 345rwkw on 16psi. It has been handed back to me with 325rwkw on 12psi. The car is going back on Monday either way so this will just have to do for the weekend... Add another 50rwkw and 2 wheel drive and this car is just going to be off it's head. Like it isn't already! Chris and Theo went well and truely out of the way to explain the where and why's of the whole thing. Brilliant guys if you are reading this! The car if left in drive with a light application of throttle clearly has more lag than the factory baby turbo. This is a fact. What the GTX can do... is everything else better, faster and longer. Have the car in the right gear and jump on it and good bye poor Toyo, good bye licence and hello to silly little giggle to myself. It is an absolute rocket. For the record... the grin on my face... I'm smiling about it now just typing this it's pretty freaking wide... it could be slightly wider, so much so my face will hurt so enter full exhaust after the weekend! Hopefully I haven't missed anything... I'm still a little lost for words to tell you the truth! Here is a picture of the engine bay as it stands now... funnily enough it is still very stock looking! Jack

Exactly that Sam. With K&N too... will be For Sale too soon... Jack

Moreso a question for Theo at BPR. I did ask though, it is basically the lowest point that the car can go down to when things go wrong if I recall correctly. Put a 15psi actuator in and the least amount of boost the car can run is 15psi, put a 12psi then the same applies. Things go wrong and the ECU knows about it and can correct it then it can't bleed enough boost off to fix the problem. That is basically how I recall the conversation. Jack
-
It is through BPR mate. Brand new fitted with 8lb actuator, ported with bigger flapper already done. Having a quick peek in the engine bay while the car was on the dyno this afternoon... it's a big bugger! Certainly more noticable than the baby turbo. Turbo outlet pointing straight in the air and a clear Garrett written for all to see! Thank Dillz, I am not in to who's dick is bigger etc... really in the end I have to live with it. I am the one that will get to smile when my garage door goes up at 5am every morning. Cannot wait mate. Jack

Yep TRA1NR that is the plan. It will require a retune for the airbox etc but it's something I can work towards, it will just be nice to have my car back initially with the new turbo and stuff, one wheel drive for the weekend but still fun none the less! That is the plan David, initially it was to try and keep the car as stock looking as possible. Outside of the car I'm still in front inside... as in, in the engine bay it will be what it will be. I have allowed for this in the budget for the car, didn't want to have to do it but in the end I know myself well enough to know that this is what I actually wanted in the first place. Having had a Nizpro Stage 2 car with airbox/battery relocation done as part of the kit I know what I'm getting myself in for... I know it will be loud, it'll spool like crazy and let off even louder. Looking for around 16psi, in the end the car will tell the tuner what boost it likes. This goes to my post on the 'other' forum. I am not building this car to run a set time, to make a set amout of power etc... I am doing it because I want to, this ones for me. I want to hear my car come on boost and then dump it away everytime I put my right foot in. If a by product of that is running 11's and making 400rwkw then great, if it makes 350rwkw and runs 12's then that is ok too... most important part for me is the daily experience of it, I get to drive this mad man mobile everyday! 11's would be nice though :D Jack
-
Thanks David! The boys at BPR did say with 'enough' work it would fit. As I had already told them that I wanted to keep the XR8 intake and if that didn't work then I'd be upgrading to the airbox/battery relocation, they tried the factory airbox, couldn't get it and then understood my wishes, one is to get the car back to me tomorrow afternoon as I have rented a car while my car is getting done and then with a view to my future plans for the car it was binned in favour of just getting it done. We'll work on the new intake system for the car when we get time Jack
-
Above are you referring to a Blue F6E with the same wheels? 305 on the business end is going to give some crazy grip... let alone the look of the car mate. Nice work! Jack
-
Nice! It is a neater looking item than the factory airbox... battery relocation and more importantly turbo side intake combined with the GTX 35/82R I think will sing a tune I'm prepared to listen to all the time! Jack

Another update... I've been over to see the lads at BPR today. Unfortunately the factory XR8 airbox has been ditched as the Plazmaman V.2 piping kit will not fit around the XR8's larger intake snorkel. For the time being a BPR intake has been fitted to get the car up and running. They did try a stock airbox on the car and that didn't fit either for those that are interested. Troubleshooting it to try and keep my original idea of a stock standard engine bay is very pleasing though. Due to a delay in starting on the car from circumstances outside of Theo and Chris's control the TrueTrac will now be fitted next Monday/Tuesday. No problems from me on that one. I have an RDO on Tuesday and the boys have been super accommodating with me and my very early work start times etc next week. Well played lads! Excellent service. I've read about it, and now I am experiencing it! So now, as I've said previously I wanted to keep a completely stock standard look to the engine bay for what is now going to be stage 1 of my cars mods. Due to the XR8 airbox not playing ball I am now looking at a modified intake for the car. I have enquired about turbo side intake and battery relocation. That ball is now rolling So there we are, the car is strapped to the BPR dyno as we speak and they are working their magic Jack

I have fitted Herrods own kit to my G6ET. It consists of custom Koni red's and their own spec of King Springs. This kit is designed specifically for the FG. It dropped the car 35mm, just slightly under 100mm at the lowest point which is the flange on the back of the factory cat. For all money you wouldn't pick that the car has been lowered, at least my work mates couldn't pick it. Handling wise... crazy. Just brilliant. It hunts corners now, really goes after the line. I found with the factory stock suspension it would start to feel light over the back and away from car when cornering. Not now. I originally was looking at Bilsteins too and was turned away from them in favour of the Koni as I'm never going to track race (circuits) the car so for a street spec car Bilsteins would be too heavy/overkill in favour of the Koni red shock. Here are a couple of pics of before and after if you are interested in what it looks like. Before... After... Hope that helps mate. It cost me $2200 fitted with a wheel alignment and it is money well spent. Can't recommend it enough! Doesn't scrape on speed bumps or foul the front bumper everywhere either. Jack

Black wheels on white cars... it is just a winner. Just is. I've seen Rockstars on a black FG XR6T and thought I wonder what they'd look like on my car, they clear Brembo's and all... they belong on a white car. Simple as that! Jack

Update! The car is now at Bluepower in Campbellfield. Due to Dyno Dynamics providing a software update yesterday afternoon the only thing that really happened was a lot of chatting for couple of hours while I waited for my hire car to be ready done the road. Once the software update was finished late in the afternoon we managed to get 3 baseline power runs down as a starting point... Best was 229.5rwkw @ 10.5psi. Worst was 225rwkw, didn't get a boost figure for that run but with the graph overlay they were all within a few kw of each other and really just mirrored all the way up the line. Theo was great showing me the fuel line and just how 'fat' it is from the factory etc. So here we are! 1 week and I'll have my 'new' car back! Budget come through too, that is where I am getting my hire car from. They didn't end up having an Getz cars for me (thank god lol) and I got a free upgrade to a brand spanking new Nissan X-Trail! Thanks Budget!! Jack

Looking hot mate! Now that I have investigated and done brakes. I'd recommend the DBA T3 rotors and Ultimate pad combo all round. They are a bit dusty though. I look like I have shadow chrome wheels on the car now after a week lol... looks really nice actually! On my car that is stock currently until tomorrow afternoon when all the mods start they are almost too much if that makes any sense. They have great pedal feel and the bite is instant. The dust is just a by product of them doing their job and doing it well. They do squeal a little under light braking coming to sets of lights etc but not enough to make you wonder whether you can live with it. And your point about ADR insurance etc is well made. Trying to keep as factory stock look mod wise is a good idea. Keeps the police/epa away and certainly makes insurance something that is quite accessible too. Win/Win. Jack

Thanks Veva, that is the kind of power level I am looking for, slightly under or over, no issue. The grin on my face will be what matters mate! Good to chat to you the other day too mate. Well worth the phone call! You are on 'Team Bad Homer'!! Excellent. Nah mate I hadn't really considered anything other than the actual Brembos/Alcons/Harrops and when that all was put in the too hard basket by the suppliers I just headed out and picked up T3 DBA's with Ultimates. Wonderful combo, more than enough for what I use the car for. Jack
