ANY BODY HEARD THIS BEFORE The latest rumour to come out of the Stone Bros Racing/Marcus Ambrose/Warren Luff balaclava incident is that a competing team dropped SBR in it by protesting to Australia's motor sport governing body, CAMS,about the Pirtek drivers not wearing their balaclavas.Sometime ago,a decision was apparently made between the drivers that wearing the balaclavas made conditions unbearable when racing, and it seems there was a gentlemens agreement between the drivers to opt out of wearing them if they so wished.CAMS apparently offered to overlook enforcing the issue. However since it's a safety issue, when one team protest anotherCams must take action, and it would appear a competing team protested the SBR drivers at Bathurst. As a result, CAMS had to take action.Given it was a safety issue, rather than fining the team CAMS forced Ambrose to serve a drive-through penalty when it was discovered Luff was not wearing his balaclava. Then when it bacame apparant Ambrose was balaclava-less, he was made to return to the pits and fit a balaclava. If the rumours are true, and a competing team did protest the SBR drivers to eliminate them from the competition ,the whole incident is even more sorry than it first appeared. The timing of the incident, at the biggest race of the season, came as a bitter blow to the Ford enthusiasts, as it essentially eliminated Ford's top car. While no compromises should be made in regard to driver safety, the opposing team was not protesting for safety reasons. I think it's s..t. Any ideas on who it was?

Hi Luke, I have 285 rw with just centre muffler removed no hotdogs Trying to get the cat off to gut it but running in to problems. Will let you know how I get on when I take it in to get the car retuned
-
Well I have some good suggestion and plenty to try. What I might do is go to Repco or someone and try and get something It's the nut up the top by the turbo and there's bugger all room. I tried a ring spanner from the engine bay but it was to tight There's two , ones easy to get at and the others a sh..t and tight. Looks like the easy part is going to be gutting it. Thanks for the input
-
Hi all, I tried to take my cat off and rounded the nut. It's not bad but I can feel the ring spanner starting to slip. My Q... is there a way out of this like a special tool or something or is it a gas axe job.

Hi guys, I have a small problem when I take off after idling for a while the T starts to cough and splutter. It has happened 3 times now and always comes right straight away. It never happens when I am driving only when I take off. It's not a major problem but was wondering if anybody new what was causing it. Thanks

<{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Cobra system is superior most definitely due to the reduction in surface are of the intercooler piping that is exposed to heat sources. The other obvious benefit is the dramatic improvement in throttle response. I have had a ride in the Nizpro workshop car that is running this system and the improvement is highly noticable. I am planning on getting one of these fitted myself in the next few months. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree, I reckon this is the best system for keeping heat away from your pipes. Even if it is a slight difference it must be good.I am aiming for around 300-315rw, if I was looking to go higher I would spend the money and get one I would like to see how you get on.

An watch all the T's Pass you buy! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No way

Some thoughts please. Whenever I come home from driving the T I automaticaly see how hot the intercooler is and always it is cool or at worst slightly warm. Recently I lifted the bonnet and found that the hose between the IC and the throttle body was very hot and the longer the car sat the hotter it got. Surely this is detrimental to have cool air from the IC and hot air to the throttle body. I realize that there is heat soak from the engine which heats up the hose the longer it sits but if you are taking the car to the drags and sitting in line burnouts..etc, surely the hose must be producing warm air which is not good. It seems to me that the Cobra system where the hose goes straight into the plenum would be the most efficient as there is no heat soak in the hose as it is on the other side of the engine away from the heat. I dont want to go changing the system that I have now and have a question. Would wrapping the hose in header wrap make any difference, or would I be waisting my time and money? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Bill. PS...I bought this subject up before but was'nt sure if I mentioned header wrap.

Well they must send all the good ones over to NZ. So far I have done 9500ks and the only problems I have is the hand brake light comes on now and again and a slight ticking sound when the brakes are applied in slow traffic.I have modded it to 285rw and took it around the track on the weekend and gave it death no problems except for the chevy truck that I had trouble catching 6.6litre diesel turbo (with no mods) man they got some stonk.

Are those wheels or whaaaat They look real good GEEA

I got mine June 2005 ex demo 5000ks Tow bar, 18" wheels, leather, boot liner (which is great). $48,500 NZ. Did you get yours on runout? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Mine was through a company discount - I think it was 16% off. I got towbar, bootliner, mudspats, footmats, scuff plates etc myself through a friend - cheaper than thru Ford. I did think about an ex demonstrator - but at that stage all demos were auto and /or mk1s. I got one of the first mk2 six speeds. You do pay for the privelege though. The dealers had a nice black mk1 auto with premium brakes and a SS inductions cold air intake, custom pack, bootliner etc etc - but wanted slightly more than I paid for my car. So - I had decision of New with manual, mk2 (in my colour choice) or slightly used as was. I am happy with my choice - prefer the manual, and the Shockwave - though would have liked the brakes. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah you are right mine is shockwave and an auto. Still like my auto down at Meremere though.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}> And get sprung... vik...$10,000.00 fine aint it over there <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm in the land of the long white cloud and we have no law against not having a cat. Would it be worth punching it, also would I have to get a retune? Cheers <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If legalities are'nt a problem you may want to consider just replacing the cat with a section of pipework and leave your stock cat intact in case you want to return it to stock. Should be able to get an exhaust shop to throw something together for less than $50. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Good thinking, that is the go, because the back of the cat does no merge very good <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah bang on never thought of that. Thanks

Was the red stuff before or after the service? If it was after it looks like the grease you put between the brake pads and the plates to stop squeeling. Were you getting a squeel or a tapping sound? I think my problem has gone and could have been a stone between the rotor and the backing plates(I hope it was). Thanks for the help.

Hi, I have done a few mods to my turbo which is now getting 285rw. The only thing I have done to the exhaust system is romve the centre muffler and now want to do further mods on it but want to keep the bang for bucks in order. My Q is. If I put a bigger cat in would this help me achieve a good result without having to put in a system that is going to cost around the $1500 mark.

Could somebody help please before I start pulling things to pieces? Yesterday I was driving in a slow line of cars and had to brake all the time. Every time I braked I got a tap...tap...tapping sound that seemed to come from the left rear brake area. It only happened when I was braking really slow and was not very loud but annoying. I am still under warranty but the cars been modded so I can guess what they will say,so I was going to have a look myself. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
