Serious Rattle From Box After New Clutch Install
bjacobs replied to bjacobs's topic in Driveline Workshop
Little update, done about 10000kms now on this gearbox oil so it will be getting changed in the next 1000kms, the rattle did return after my initial feedback, it stayed quiet for about 3-5k kms then slowly returned, now it back to rattling like it did on the stock oil. I spoke to Malwood and he recommended the standard mineral dex 3 and use 4.2L which I think fills up the box a bit more, change every 2nd engine oil change. At the time I chose not to go with that and to try the super expeno redline stuff. With Nulon smooth shift additive. I think now I might try going back to the dex 3. Another issue I've been having as I daily my car is cooking my clutch fluid quite regularly, even being easy on the clutch and never sitting with the pedal down it still will heat up exsessivley in traffic to the point where sometime the friction point will move. And I'll have to do a bleed to fix it. Just another thing to consider if your thinking about daily driving an xtreme twin plate haha. Anyway that's just a little update. Cheers beau -
Little update as I haven't posted in a while, current pic of the ute, everything's going pretty good, brakes are coming soon so hopefully will be able to drop into the 1:11's round Wakefield and eventually get it on e85 with a new fuel system.

Hahah yeh who knows! I'm sure you'd hear it if it got to the stage mine was. I have xforce dump and f6 turbo, I don't know if that may make it worse but I don't really know how it could. Your lucky you've only had to tighten once. Mines got 15,000kms and I've torqued them 4 times. I've seen some people drill through the nut and stud and put a wire through, and I've also seen some similar little fold over tab things that looked like you could make yourself on one of my mechanics RB's. I'm sure there are some cheaper options but it's just a fck around trying to source all the bits yourself. So nice when it comes in a kit Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ive been having issues with my dump pipe and manifold bolts coming loose quite regularly. I checked them yesterday because it sounded like I had an exhaust leak (a screamer pipe) when I was on WOT and sure enough all my dump bolts were loose as fck and 1 was completely gone and half my manifold bolts I got a full rotation of the socket back on them. So I called atomic and bought a set of their anchorlox for the my dump pipe, as their pretty expensive ($130 for 5 bolts) I only got the dump ones for now as they were the worst. They just came today so going to be glad when I put them on. Has anyone else used these? Or has anyone got another method? Curious to see other peoples solutions cause as I understand it's a pretty common issue with all turbo engines. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So have put about 70kms on the car since oil change and I'm very happy to say noise has gone now even with A/C on. Still a tiny bit of rollover noise but nothing to worry about at all now. Pretty stoked, anyone with the same issue try the redline stuff. https://vimeo.com/139519103 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Rear muffler removal is droney AF and sounds pretty bad imo Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

In it goes. Noise still there but only when air con is on now. Shifts are smooth even at high rpm. I'll feel it out for a couple days and see if it gets any better then report back haha. god why didn't I splurge on an npc! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I'm jealous of your quiet box haha. Ahh so many options, gotta make a decision today as to what I'm gonna put in it, pretty keen to try this g70 stuff if Matt had success with it, just don't know what oil to run, I'm thinking I'll try the super expensive red line stuff and if that doesn't make it any better next time I'll try something else, process of elimination haha. I do have a ripshifter with a solid mounted stick so I'm going to put some rubber between the stick and shifter as well and see if that takes some of the noise away. So you reckon an extra full liter gaz? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I might try the red line lightweight shockproof oil possibly with the Nulon additive unless anyone can advise against it. I have to admit I was a bit surprised when Mal said to use dex, I really want to try something different Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Do you mean g70? I just looked it up and the g60 is auto trans additive, the g70 is manual gearbox and diff additive. Will this be ok to add to mineral dex3 or do you think I should go with a synthetic Nulon oil as well? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Just heard back from Mal and he said to use 4.2L of normal mineral dex3 and to change it every 2nd oil change. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

After a quick search looks like a lot of fellas are using penrite 70w-75 and is ok, disregarding cost what is the best? I don't care how much 5L of oils going to cost me if there's a chance it will fix the noise a bit. Is mainlube or redline any good and what weights? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I'm spewing haha, like I said I was prepared for the clutch rattle but not for this rollover noise that's twice as loud as the clutch! What clutch are you running? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Ok will do I'll give that a go, also can you buy the sealed bearing by itself from npc ect.? Or is it purely part of the kit. I'm hoping I can shut this thing up a bit now otherwise I don't know how I'm going to deal. Can't even hear the exhaust at idle. Any gearbox oil recommendations? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Box was not serviced but only has 13k on the clock, even the stock clutch that came out has a lot left on it. I'm aware of the normal twin plate noise when the clutch is engaged, not concerned about that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I only went this clutch because my mate got it like I said and I drove his car and liked it and it wasn't too loud or anything so I just went with the exact same. The xtreme was only $1650, think it cost me about $2100 installed, got a service at the same time so that was the extra money. Wish I did more research now though Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

It's not the twin plate noise in concerned about, I know that noise is normal haha. It's when the car is idling in neutral with the clutch out. My mate has same clutch in his fg f6 and doesn't make a peep when idling in neutral with the clutch out. In making 380 rwkw and my mechanic reckons the brass bush is the way to go as the stock bearing is a weak point and allows the shaft to have too much free play, he changes them in his own cars to the bush (r32 with 550wkw) if it's normal looks like I just wasted ) $2400 cause I'm not having that haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

So it's normal to make that noise in neutral with the clutch out? That's ridiculous if it's normal! And you think it's got nothing to do with the gearbox? I'm making 380rwkw and my mechanic reckons the normal bearing is a weak point and the brass bush is the way to go, it's the first thing he replaces in all his cars as well (r32 with 550wkw). Is there any way to stop the noise on this clutch or is the only option to change clutches? My mates f6 has same clutch and is quiet as so I don't think it's normal Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
