  1. Well the good news for you QLDers is that after the Pro/R class runs it's exhibition runs in Sydney in January, they go to Willowbank 2 weeks later to run an official round. Perhaps round 1 of a national championship?
  2. No it won't, it's not on the pressurised side, it's on the intake before the turbo.
  3. Hey all, I'm an avid drag racing fan, go to all the meets and have raced my own cars too. My mate and I were at the Nitro championships at WSID a few weeks ago and were commenting on how we enjoy most categories (especially Top Fuel) but we were SO BORED at seeing Super Sedan or Comp Eliminator cars which were the same old cars we had been seeing for years. 40 year old Capris with 350's in them, Torana LJ's with Big Blocks, XY Falcons, T buckets, Altereds and all that sort of stuff. It just didn't feel like much new was going on in that part of the sport. Now not everyone will agree with me, many of you enjoy those sorts of cars and that's fine. Anyway, we decided to venture out to WSID today to see the Compac attack which mainly consists of Turbo cars, 4 & 6cyl and tons of turbo Rotaries. I must say I quite liked it as there were a greater variety of cars, FWD, RWD, AWD, Turbo and NA. And these were more modern body shapes, maybe a bit more relatable to my/our generation. The most impressive car was the Gas Motorsports Toyota, fitted with the 2,000 horsepower 2JZ turbo motor. This thing absolutely hauls ass and is built to a very high standard. It's part of the new Pro/R category which seems to be gaining some traction. Along with Tony Wedlock's Pro/R and the Pac Racing car there are some pretty impressive cars going around, and with some hi tech setups. Pro/R uses a pro tree and is heads up racing so certainly makes interesting racing, kinda like watching Top Doorslammer grow up all over again. We had a good look at the Gas Motorsports 2JZ car and had a bit of a chat with the engine builder. This thing uses a production block that is resin filled to stop distortion. Custom crank, rods and CP pistons from America. It uses a production head which retains the water cooling and a Dry Ice intercooler. Three injectors per cylinder, of 1750 cc's each, one squirting into the top of the runner and two into the bottom of the runner. These are some pretty big injectors. They use an engine driven fuel pump instead of an electric fuel pump. Motor is dry sumped and has the biggest turbo on it you have ever seen. 4 speed Lenco transmission, soon to be upgraded to an air shifted version. So this chap was telling us that in January, there will be a Pro/R exhibition at WSID featuring up to 5 cars from the USA (including one from Puerto Rico) and 2 cars from New Zealand (300ZX with a V6 VG30 engine). He also told us he is building a new FG falcon XR6 turbo for this category. Brett Stevens is also building an FG falcon turbo for this category, so it looks like we will soon see a lot of cars around. The FG will use the Barra motor, resin filled block with custom crank, rods and pistons. It will use the production head and you can only imagine the turbo system and fuel system on it. Remember the 2JZ is only a 3 litre motor, the 4 litre Ford would do well over the 2,000hp mark. Anyway, they reckon the car is half built already, and they will start testing later this year. IT'll be awesome to see some 7 second (maybe eventually 6 second) XR6 Turbos around!! PS We also saw the new Nissan GTR R35 in the flesh. Man that car is horn. Std 20's on it and a great champage/grey colour. This thing has 290kw at the wheels stock and they hooked a Haltech ECU to it to replace the std ECU. Got another 60kw at the wheels so this thing has 350kw at all 4 wheels. It ran 11's today and man did it look good doing it. For $160k so it should!!
  4. she's clogged!! Happens to me all the time on both work and home computers as I always install new programs, work with large art files etc etc. Firstly uninstall programs that you no longer use. Then go to download.com and get yourself one of those "tune-up" programs that are free for 30 day trial. Install and run it. They analyse your system and fix broken links, the registry, duplicate files and usually do a good, long hard drive optimisation. That should improve things markedly. Another things that slows pc's down is if they load a whole stack of programs on startup like messenger, skype, modems, cameras and so on. Try and reduce that. Also take a look at the number of fonts installed. Windows loads all the fonts so they're all ready. You really only use a couple so you can delete most of them and keep courier and times new roman or whatever. No need to wipe her and reinstall windows - DRASTIC!@@!
  5. That supra takes some time to spool up!! Must have a turbo the size of a small country. But geez once it gets there...
  6. Looks like I was reading the results update before the final runs. Amanda is out and Dobbo is in. The cut off to make the top fuel field was 5.2 secs...!!!!
  7. Yeah same here, going out tomorrow - just can't resist Top Fuel - it's the best. Can't believe Dobbo got bumped out of the 8 and didn't qualify!!! Must have got tyre shake with a 10 sec et. Last meet at WSID he torched 3 motors for 3 runs. Ah well, good to see Cory Mac with a decent time, hopefully the rain holds off tomorrow.
  8. 1. Started with a Ford Escort N/A 1300 - this became a Turbo 2.0L 2. Started with a Mazda 808 coupe 1300 - This became an RX3 coupe clone with 12a turbo - the fastest car I ever owned bar none 3. Mazda Cosmo 12a turbo - this got an extend port and big exhaust 4. Lots of boring company cars 5. V8 Toyota Soarer - took it to WSID and got so pissed off with it I went out the next day and bought an.... 6. 03 XR6T - 330RWKW and ran 12's but got stolen and replaced with... 7. Mercedes CLK 320 convertible - and I'm sure as heck not going to mess with this fine car. But in the meantime building a.... 8. Manx Meyers fiberglass buggy based on a VW beetle chassis. Currently fitting a WRX 2.0L twin turbo motor, auto and 4WD system. Expected 300kw and 600kg weight.....should be interesting....!!!
  9. Last year on the way to Vegas I was in an MD80 waiting for takeoff from LAX. The plane taking off in front of us was one of these Antonov's and I got to watch the entire takeoff. Thought the bugger would never lift off but it made it allright. Impressive!!!
  10. After my XR6T got stolen and then replaced with the Merc, I thought I'd get some personalised plates that kinda described how I felt about the whole thing and the new car. (and the hope that no one steals or smashes into it!! How about sharing YOUR personalised plates with the forum and what they mean/why you got them. And no IDEAS on plates or ones you mighta seen somewhere - let's post pix of actual plates in existence.
  11. So after spending around 4 weeks sitting in the auction yard, the old girl finally got auctioned on Wednesday. I registered as a bidder just in case it went for the right price and I could get motivated to get her back on the road. But in the end, the numbers weren't quite right and someone picked her up for $17,000. Not bad for a car with 11 sec capability and lots of bling.
  12. he he some classic answers!! Yeah a car tends to get pretty butchered once the cage is welded in huh. Looks like our friend may have organised a swap with someone who needs a cage so things are looking up. No FIRES!!
  13. Yeah no worries. They don't burn that well that the thing goes straight up in smoke. Of course I've worn a cotton shirt whilst using a grinder or welder. Surely most people that work with metal don't wear wool shirts all day. Sure is better than wearing a polyester one which would stick to your skin and burn real nice. C'mon now lets someone in 2 pages of posts give the guy a hand instead of all telling him he's a fool or all the other positive comments. Wetting the shirts a bit and having a fire extinguisher nearby is good advice so will not be ignored. And while the seats are out, remove the centre console and then the carpet comes straight out. 70% of dangerous materials removed. Cover up the doors and all you really have to worry about is the headliner. The only video that would be made would be the successful removal of the cage - not a fricken fire.
  14. It's not as hard as all that - geez some people blow things up out of proportion. How about this, I'll give you a hand taking it out but it will cost you a carton of really good beer. It can be easily cut out with a grinder, some cutting discs and a lot of care. I'm more than happy to teach you how to do it. Stock up on some old clean cotton rags and some tape - easy enough to cover everything up where the sparks will most likely fly etc etc etc. Most likely unbolt the seats and get em out, plus cover up all the door trims (or take em off). I'm in the St George area - give me a call and we'll do it next weekend on Sat (not this weekend, next weekend). Put aside 5 hours. Actually, make that 2 cartons of really good beer. cheers
