Hi, Ive got a MY99 with 21,000k on it. Had it since new. Great little car. Main things to look for Look out for noticeable bottom end engine Knocks, usually big ends bearing, (Not good !!), they will have some slight knocking (engine cold) due to piston slap, that’s normal. The gearbox is fairly strong and will hold around 180 -200 kw atw, normal street driving. (Start launching and it’s a different story) The diver’s side tappet cover banks are inherent to seeping oil, generally around the rear spark plug. Be aware that timing chain needs replacing at 4 years or 100K ( $650 by Subaru) The MY98 do not have the issue with the air flow meters. That’s a good thing !!! Take it for a drive and make sure the gearbox feels normal. You will soon know if its had a hard time or not by the way it shifts. They run around 13-14 PSI boost stock. There are heaps of cheap parts around if you want to modify slightly. Completely different car to drive than a XRT.
