  4. Quoted from.News.com.au "Ban threat crashes F1 party By Ian Haberfield, Kelvin Healey and Byron Young March 06, 2005" "MELBOURNE could lose its Formula 1 Grand Prix and Australia might be banned from holding other world motor racing events, motor sport's international governing body warned yesterday. In a bombshell, the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile said in a prepared statement that it would reconsider Australia's right to host major motor sports events. The FIA's anger was a result of court intervention that allowed F1 team Minardi to run cars in yesterday's qualifying session that had been in breach of the federation's regulations. The FIA threatened to strip Australia of world-title events, the F1 grand prix and Rally Australia in Perth. Minardi boss Paul Stoddart sought an injunction in Victoria Supreme Court on Friday to allow his cars to compete despite a ruling by stewards that they did not comply with the FIA's 2005 F1 technical regulations. The issue will be discussed at a meeting of the FIA's World Council in Paris at the end of the month. The FIA said Justice David Habersberger had not heard both sides of the case before granting the injunction. It said it was not given notice of the hearing and was denied an opportunity to appear. "Apparently the judge thought it right to interfere with the running of a major sporting event, overrule the duly appointed international officials and compel the governing body to allow cars to participate in breach of the international regulations - all this without first hearing both sides of the case," the FIA statement said. "If Australian laws and procedures do, indeed, allow a judge to act in this way, it will be for the World Motor Sport Council to decide if a world championship motor sport event of any kind can ever again be held in Australia." The FIA will decide Australia's motor sport fate in Europe in a fortnight. Minardi chief Paul Stoddart last night said he withdrew the court action after FIA chief Max Mosley threatened to cancel the grand prix. "It was the FIA and their lawyers that requested, at about midnight last night, that I withdraw this action, stating that, 'Otherwise Max is threatening to cancel the Australian Grand Prix'," Stoddart said, also in a prepared statement. "I stated at the time my total disgust at such threats and, in the presence of most of the senior members of the FIA, CAMS, AGPC and their legal representatives, I agreed in the interests of the Australian Grand Prix to comply with their request to withdraw." Australian Grand Prix supremo Ron Walker played down the FIA's threat. Mr Walker said Melbourne had a contract to host the race until 2010 and the Victorian Government had an option for a further five years. "This race is not in jeopardy," he said. "It's never been in jeopardy; it'll go past 2010. "I think in future the law will be changed in terms of the international situation to ensure that this will not happen again." The Minardi row, brewing all week, is the latest chapter in a long-running saga over the control of F1. Melbourne-born aviation millionaire Stoddart champions the cause of F1's under-funded tail enders against the might of Ferrari and the FIA. The civil war has split the F1 community: the sport's supremo, Bernie Ecclestone, says Stoddart should quit; others see him as a future head of the FIA. Stoddart agreed to take his cars up to 2005 safety standards after objections from Ferrari and Red Bull. He said he had made his point and had won a guarantee from the FIA that he said would lead to more stability and less cost in the sport. Stoddart said: "I think it was a landmark decision that a court actually saw fit to uphold the law as opposed to the FIA's regulations." Earlier yesterday, Minardi announced it had dropped its legal bid after agreeing to meet race standards. Minardi lawyers formally dropped the legal application. A spokeswoman for Premier Steve Bracks said everyone had legal rights, including Minardi." this could be our last F1 and Rally in Australia

  10. This is from SBR web site.. Marcos Ambrose Heading to the USA In 2006 - 05/03/05 Back-to-back V8 Supercar champion Marcos Ambrose is to pursue racing interests in North America in 2006 and plans to leave the V8 Supercar Championship Series at the end of the current race year. Ambrose is discussing several opportunities with Ford USA and hopes to have a firm program in place within a few months. His eventual goal is a drive in the NASCAR Nextel Cup. In the meantime, Ambrose is totally focused on winning his third consecutive V8 Supercar title in his Pirtek Falcon for SBR, Ford and their fans in 2005. Ambrose is in the process of competing in three V8 Supercar support races at the Foster’s Australian Formula One Grand Prix this weekend and will start his “three-peat” championship campaign at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide on March 17-20. SBR co-owner Ross Stone said that Ambrose would move to the USA with the blessing of his team and sponsors and will release him from his contract a year early at the end of 2005. “Marcos has been a terrific part of this team for five years and has played a major role in our development and success,” said Stone. “We would never stop a talented driver like Marcos from pursuing other opportunities. “We know Marcos is as focused as ever on winning a third consecutive title for Pirtek, Ford, SBR and our fans and we will be doing everything possible to make that a reality.” Ambrose said it was important to make his intentions clear at this stage of the year to be fair to his fans and end any speculation with US testing expected to get underway in the near future. “The V8 Supercar Championship is a fantastic series and has been very good to me,” said Ambrose. “I have to thank Ross and Jimmy Stone, Ford and Pirtek for their tremendous support and hopefully we can all share some future success. “While nothing has been finalised at this stage, it was important for everyone that my intentions were made clear before the start of the season so we can get on with the job of trying to win a third consecutive title.” Ford Australia President, Tom Gorman, said Ambrose's ambitions were something that all Ford fans could share. “Marcos Ambrose is an important part of the global Ford family,” said Gorman. “He has done a fantastic job for us since joining the V8 Supercar ranks in 2001 and we are confident he can continue his success as he chaces a third consecutive title this season. “His decision to pursue a career path in the US is going to offer an exciting adventure which Ford Australia supports and will assist with where we can.” At this stage Ambrose is set to test with a tier one Ford NASCAR Busch team over a two-day period in the near future. Further tests will be arranged as Ambrose’s V8 Supercar schedule permits, according to John Szymanski, Director, Sponsor Development, Ford Racing Technology. “Dan Davis (Director Ford Racing Technology) and I both have the utmost respect for Marcos’ abilities on and off the racetrack,” said Szymanski. “We feel Marcos’ move to America underlines the synergy among the different Ford racing programs around the world and we look forward to helping him with our vast resources and relationships to ensure a high degree of success. “In the meantime we want to ensure that nothing detracts from Marcos defending his back-to-back V8 Supercar tiles in 2005. “As a valued member of the Ford Racing "family" we look forward to welcoming Marcos to the newest chapter of his racing career.“

  24. "Ladies and gentlemen, This is your captain speaking. Welcome you aboard Trans Global Airlines, flight number 2 from Chicago to Rome. We are currently flying at a height of 35,000 feet midway across the Atlantic. If you look out of the windows on the starboard side of the aircraft, you will observe that both the starboard engines are on fire. If you look out of the windows on the port side, you will observe that the port wing has fallen off. If you look down towards the Atlantic ocean, you will see a little yellow life raft with three people in it waving at you. That's me your captain, the co-pilot, and one of the air stewardesses. This is a recorded message."
