Man good point. everyone assumes that all japanese cars (eg s15 silvia and rx8) are dorifto machines straight off of the factory floor. But most are designed to understeer and autos. Because doriftos are poor bums that buy 3rd hand cars from wreckers and hairdressers and old biddys spend $80K on cars! Even the sons on indonesian guerilla war lords studying engineering here that buy the dorifto spec ones are too scared to drive them anyway.

Manual RX8 approx 180kw Auto RX8 approx 139kw Suffice it to say the auto rx8 is a joke. And even ze germans couldn't make an auto tranny that could harness the free revving goodness of a rotary. The torque converter I assume most if not all autos would have would kill yer power.

There in lies the truth. Still think torque will win though. God forbid it was an auto RX8 then the Xr6t will eat its arse!

10 Days Notice: Skid Pan Day Melbourne Jan 14th
lightning_strike replied to lightning_strike's topic in Victoria
Unfortunately this is at the Attwood police driver training complex. So it's not like going to the drags where you can rock in any time or have spectators. If you tag along with someone who's paying then yeah, I can't see why not. So yeah, who's b**ch can you be! heh -
bah, I thought the question was if both cars were stock :|
-
IMHO you have the outright torque he doesn't to always beat him in 3rd gear. Especailly if he has a passsenger, or say, 2 potatos as luggage. Put corners into the equation and the RX8 owns though with its significantly reduced kerb weight. Ages ago, on mccr.com there was a similar thing about an S2000 versus a Clubsandwich, I mean, Clubsport. In a straight line, most people ended up saying they were evenly matched from memory. I had a sprint againt a HSV coupe 4 last night. That was surprisingly fast.

hah on chapel st there's a plain dark purple XR8. Every time I go shopping he's booking someone! But allegedly, that would be conspicuous for an unmarked car on chapel st.

Hi Guys, Late december I posted something up about this and it may've been a little too late notice. This one is on Jan 14th. There are five places left. If you're interested, contact Kevin Flynn (the instructor) on 0413 540 197 asap. It costs $120 or $140 from memory. Well that's what it cost last year anyway! For more info: http://www.driverdynamics.com/skidpan.php Contains a video of an e55 merc on the skidpan and a few pics Futher contact details http://www.driverdynamics.com/contactus.php Here's a few pics from the one about 4 weeks ago that I posted up here as well

Man don't believe the hype about drift spec. My driving instructor for the skid pan loves to demonstrate oversteer in my xr6t because they are just so easy to get the tail end out. He easily did about 25 continuous laps of a skid pan in it without loosing the tail end once effortlessly. All those silvias and truenos need heaps of suspension mods to drift because factory standard, they're meant to understeer. On my second visit to the pan, I started to find the sweet spot with the xr6t and you just hold the wheel there, blip your throttle and your effortlessly sideways. Takes a bit of practive though. Much easier to do than in jap spec cars

Don't forget that a Telstra car never waits for it's owner to get cashed up when there's a mechanical problem. So it might only have the bare minimul number of services. But if something goes pear shaped, it usually goes straight in because it costs the owner nothing. So it should be a pretty good car

heya dudes. A mate asked me because I am the 'car guy' if I know of any compaines that offer a stretch mini limousine. Does anyone know of one available in Melbourne?
-
I had to drag a chick in a 204 Range Rover Vogue on general principal too. She almost fvcking beat me!
-
they're fagtastic! Rims need a certain level of minimism to set your car off

I have the ba mark 2 6 spd manual completely stock. The clutch is a bit dead and I find that more happens if you depress it just less than say 10mm than if you push it to the floor. Still getting used to it - after 6 months! Do you guys think the clutch lacks feel in stock form? Sorry to jack the thread!

Anyone Interested In Skid Pan This Saturday
lightning_strike replied to lightning_strike's topic in Victoria
Guys, if there's enough interest, say 10 cars, we could even schedule one exclusively for this club. The one that I went to was organised by nissansilvia.com. The one we did had a bit of motorkana at the end which was cool. Kevin Flynn at driverdynamics.com is the guy that puts it together. We just have to organise the club end. Are there enough guys here in melbourne interested in doing one? Cost (at least this one was) $120 each. N.B. the skid pan is very easy on your tyres because it's 10% oil, 90% water. Get out there and you'll see just how much your car was built to go drift! -
Ford have been settling out of court for ages with victims of rollovers in Explorers. Until the latest model, Ford Engineers knew full well that the wheelbase was 2" too short to support the explorer body without rish of rollover. But it was going to cost several hundred million to rectify the fault. Remember the Explorer is based on the old Bronco which was predominantly a two door. In the early 80s, in early prototype testing, their chassis engineers know of the cars penchant for rolling over at 40mph or slower. Basically the Jeep Cherokee was a runaway success and ford needed something to compete. Fortunately when the Explorer came out, it quickly made them THE most profitable factory in the world at the time. They made enough cash just out of the explorer alone to purchase Volvo. Because it was so profitable a vehicle, ford went on ploughing them out to the public. When deaths occured, the accountants said just make a settlement out of court and keep it hush hush. They've settled many hundreds of cases this way When the Firestone court case came up, it was a sign that ford had simply come to the point where the couldn't keep covering it up any more. So they asked their old mates firestone to 'take one for the team'. There may well have been issues with the tyres, but the real issue wen't right back to the chassis. These factoids are from a doco I saw about 18 months ago on SBS about SUVs. Ford are furthermore to blame because they started the trend and everyone followed (nissan pathfinder, toyota hilux, prado etc) Ford extended the wheelbase 2" to help prevent rollovers in the latest model. Again they kept it very hush hush so as to not admit to the collosal clusterfcvk. IT was jac nasser's parting gift to the company. But if you have seen the mythbusters episode where they test the myth that it's more economical to drive with windows up and AC on, you will know that they couldn't take corners fast without fear of rolling over in their Explorers.

I put in half a tanx of extreme for the skids and it went marginally better. Had a full tank of extreme yesterday and it's noticably an improvement on regular optimax. There's better pickup through the rev range. I'm a fan!

yeah sorry about the late notice doodz. I thought better late then never! VINCENT! Will upload a few pics shortly -
Yup my intercooler pipe came off when the car was new too at the intercooler and it was slow as. oops I've done 10k and didn't get the 3K oil change. The dealer said the 3k service was a cursory thing. fhuck! My turbs gets really chirpy around 4 grand. No turbo lag but you really start to know it's there. Completely dead wood below 3 grand though. But I'm assuming that's 100% normal

hi guys, this is an xr6t going sideways. <div class='bbimg'> </div>Another way of saying it would be it's my xr6t going sideways. If you want yours to go sideways too, skid pan is the place to do it. It's located about 10 mins from Melbourne Tullamarine airport. This day will be organised by www.driverdynamics.com and will cost $120. Don't worry about bringing burnout tyres either, because the skid pan is covered in 90% water, 10% oil. So you don't loose any tread on your tyres. There should be some other ricey cars too. For those of you who haven't done this slipperely slideways stuff before, it's a great way to learn and get some confidence in your car under the watchful eye of the instructor. If you have a bit of experience, wait your turn and get out and slay the thing. Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section If you're interested, post something here or PM and we'll work it out.
-
hey harvey, unfortunately mine is stock as a rock and I can't mod it because it's a company car! *sssssh*
-
mate, I have trouble getting ANY rice burner to even pull up next to my T, let alone drag it. Everyone hears it must be a turbo and pull up at the lights a car length behind me. Is it my halitosis? Because I've been flossing lately
-
a word of advice my fellow noobs. Make sure your intake pipe is clamped on very firmly at the intercooler!
