Spoke to the owner of the green "hulk" you speak off, and he has a much different story to the one you mentioned... What you didnt mention was that his is a twin turbo 6 litre, pushing our 450rwkw, and he absolutely smoked your arse worm!

I would if she looked like your display pic

oh yeah... I nv her boyfriend..

With the all the "Fail" and "Epic Fail" emails I've been getting, I think we should start our own trend! "Error" Let me demonstrate with the attached image Yes.. Number plates say "GF 2 NV" And the big pink sticker on the rear windscreen.. "YOU KNOW IT" ERROR!

Read above.. ypurv4 is a professional when it comes to his tunes and his lack of a TPS cap, but we cant show you his face But, there would be very minimal boost leak out of that throttle body in that region, there is a O-Ring on the throttle shaft, which is the exposed part when the cap is missing. I've had a customers car on the dyno, and I placed my hand over the missing tps cap, and banana's, nothing!

wtf? The only 9 second BA I recall was Adam hargraves... That was a HPF car.. Ohh and it wasn't even 4 years ago! Which 9sec car did S&S racing do??

Lowered cars have a tendancy to break CV's more because the shaft is actually pushed into the outer housing more, and the balls are closer edge of the inner star putting more strain in that area. If you had a Custom made shaft shorter than the Standard one, you wouldnt have this problem.. As for how much shorter. That will need to be worked out.. Or, having a stronger inner star knuckle would also fix this.. I think auto owners have less likely chance of breaking a driveshaft compared to manual guys They may charge a bit of labour, but it is fairly involved in changing the inners of a CV, especially since the rubber boots dont goto the full diameter of the CV, but rather there is a metal cover which needs to be creatively removed so you can put it back on. I've had a idea of finding a rubber boot which goes to the full size of the cv, that way we dont need to worry about that metal cover no more. Here is the new star inner next to my current one. Have a look at the wear pattern how it sits nicely in the middle. My car is running standard ride height. A lower car would have the wear marks towards the top side of the star inner. Also take note of where the circlip cut away is on the standard one, compared to the albins one.. One might say correctly placing the cutout where the star is at its thickest point would also have a strength advantage Also, this is the inside view of one of my CV housings, Once again, look at the wear mark is roughly centered. a lowered car would have this push in futher. Open up a google search page, and type the following.. BA CV CAGE and look at the first result... that's how easy it was

Last one I got done was around the $600 mark

that's right. They do. But I dont believe they are a weak link.. The only driveline failures we have seen excluding transmission related ones are 1) CV ball cage from the Inner cv breaking, and dropping its balls (so to speak) 2) CV inner star splitting, and chewing out the spline 3) Broken axles (I personally havent seen this, but im sure its been mentioned here) and 4) Tailshaft on 6speed autos. This is more to do with the 2.7:1 diff ratio putting more strain on the tailshaft. Albins manufacture products to fix 1, 2 and 3. Number 4 is fixed by a custom made tailshaft rather than a factory unit. As for the outer joint breaking.. No body has heard of it.. replacing 1, 2, and 3 might result in that happening, but if my guess is so, this wont happen until a higher torque level.

Bayswater WILL send the convertor away to get the snout changed to suit pre BA oil pump gears, Its always a oppertunity to rise the stall, even by as little as 200rpm.
-
Well yeh, most breakages I've seen have broken the ball cage or the inner star. Sure it moves the load to the outer joint, but have you heard of one breaking? To my understanding the outer joint is not a cv as such as it doesn't need to move in and out, so its a different design to the inner cv, and likely stronger

I agree, but I didn't have the $700 odd or so extra it is for the 300m axles they also product for the BA/BF.

So. After a little bit of internet research on how we can get stronger CV's, I stumbled across an off-road buggy company in USA which referred me to a company named "Albins Offroad Gear". If you check out their website, http://www.albinsgear.com.au/ you will notice they do ALOT of gearbox gear sets suit WRX's etc, as well as CV joints for Porsche's, which ironically are very close setup to our BA's (they use the same size balls) http://www.albinsgear.com.au/pComponents.html They have listed the CV Ball cage, and also the inner CV star, as well as 300m driveshaft’s I purchased the CV Ball cage, as well as the inner CV star, to a total price around the $800 dollar mark Fitted them last weekend, although it looked rather simple in turn, it was quite a job to do... What I didn’t realise is the CV rubber boot does not go to the full diameter size of the CV, but rather was half the size, and then had a metal tin type shield which goes to the complete diameter of the CV, which needs to be pried off with a suitable tool. But, any workshop that is familiar with rebuilding CV's would have no problem doing them... Oh and make sure you use the correct CV grease (type LMM I believe). Give them a call, and speak to Haden. Technical specs as provided by Haden are. The cages are made from 4140 then through hardened and shot peened The CV inners are made from EN36A then case hardened to 0.45” case depth, sub zeroed and shot peened. Strength wise something like 30% to 40% stronger than stock would be fairly conservative.

Whos car? <freeplug>Phil from bayswaters automatics 0419 506 208</freeplug> LOL

That bush is nothing new here.. Also a change to the oil pump so it has a bush support... Unlike the BA oil pump which does not.. You said it... "Time will tell.." Best take it to someone whos earnt a bit of reputation like the names of Yarra Valley, and Bayswater Automatics.

im thinking like 10am meet, with 10:45 departure
-
No guys.. In the service lane... the car park is actually a dealership!
-
What does everyone think about the meet point being in the Service lane of Neapean Hwy where president ford is in Elsternwick? http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&hl=...mp;t=h&z=19 There is plenty of parking space in the service lane, and will allow multiple exit points for all of us to come out onto neapean hwy.. Opinions??

Yes, this is very important!!!
-
Was it a Black BA Pursuit?? dark black tinted windows? with sign writing over it(electrician)?

See Fat-Tony's post above.. I switched from the original nizpro sized cooler to the new one, and it made a remarkable difference. So much so I don't believe I would have done my 10.90 in the heat at heathcote!

I wouldn't say teaming up.. more like helping out

Danny from springy motors did Hey Danny, Welcome to the forums When Sans car ended up at Bayswater automatics, Phil pulled apart the box infront of san, The Band was worn, as well as the C1 clutch from memory. Something you wouldn't expect from a box that was 2 months old. Phil said to San that he will rebuild the auto, but leave the valve body modifications as they are, and see if its within spec of being able to tune it. But if it posed a problem, to bring it back and they will replace the valve body modifications with their own. As Phil and I have done alot of R&D on my car, as well as another forum member HiNRG's car, We had pulled the boxes out a number of times, seeing if we could find a good setup both mechanically, and via the tuning to reduce excessive wear on the C1 clutch which is used in 3rd and 4th gear, as well as the band, which is used in 2nd and 4th gear. We came to the conclusion that some smart tuning in the software can make a box hold up. We also discovered that we could very quickly burn out frictions if we poorly tuned the auto. I did kill my first band when I was still running standard injectors. We also experimented with modifications to the BAR and CAR circuits of the valve body to get better Band and Clutch apply presure for cars producing more torque. We also had a ION/BTR/(whatever they are called now) Calibration engineer's input on a number of things, especailly how a auto works in relation to the tables in the pcm which was a valuable resource understanding what was going on. After this R&D and seeing a number of boxes come back with burnt frictions, Bayswater automatics on their own descretion started advising customers based on test driving the car to get their tuner to re-adjust the auto settings, Or, find another tuner. Bayswater Autos have seen instances where they have built a box, and they come back with under 5000k's later because the tune in the car absolutely screwed the box. Alot of the key into making the auto shift somewhat so it wont kill the frictions is to Increase the torque table, rather than decrease it like I've heard ALOT of workshops do(because the throttle shuts on them). The Torque table has a Direct relation to HOW the auto shifts, NOT how much presure to apply during the shift. This is all I'm going to say publically about this, If you want more information, PM me. After San took his car to Springy motors, Danny noticed something bizzare with the shifting that he was unsure of. He called Bayswater automatics for some advice, but since they dont know anything about the tuning side of things, Danny tried his luck and called me. I actually managed to go down to his workshop, and went for a test drive to see what was going on, and after trying a number of my changes in the auto settings, and we managed to get it better, but it still had a problem mechanically with the 2-3 shift. Got on the phone to Phil, and he basically said bring the car back, and they originally changed the force motor(which can normally cause this "drop flare" type problem) but ended up changed the valve body to suit their specs. The car went back to Danny, and I believe the problem has been sorted! San is very happy with his car now. that's ALL that matters
-
From what I remember, Nizpro fitted valve springs to sans car and ran it up on the dyno to see if it was "OK"... as for the full and correct story, I dont think San has ever mentioned it! Oh, and its also the Same tuner who tuned Adam hargraves 9.98 second BA 3 years ago!! Anyways San, I told ya we'll get it sorted in the end, I hope the guys at bayswater automatics looked after you, especially since you had to go back and get the valve body changed due to some bizzare drop shift into 3rd gear! When you saw me down at springy motors, I was showing Danny a few things with the auto setting. The shifting should make your box last, without burning clutches on gearshifts again, no more getting your box rebuilt after 2 months.

I might bring one along.. He cracked it last time I didn't tell him about a cruise..
