    Ls1 Nationals

I was supposed to be going but neither of my cars looks like being ready unfortunately. I may have my hotel room that I booked available, it is the big family room there for 4 people.
  2. I think Brian and I are both mad
  3. I am familiar with the CAPA setup from what I have seen on the CAPA website and also various write-ups in zoom magazine. I have also seen a system on a car at Summernats either this year or last year from memory (my memory is a little hazy sometimes). Regarding the choice of water-to-air vs air-air the general comment that I have is the same as before, I would prefer a system with less parts in the system for higher overall system reliability. From an engineering perspective this just makes more sense to me. As you have mentioned the price appears to be around the same price, with the Nizpro system being marginally cheaper, so this shouldnt be a major consideration here. Originally I went off the price that I saw mentioned earlier in the thread. It is difficult to tell the all inclusive price for the CAPA kit however as the water-to-air intercooler seems to require their custom manifold and the website isnt clear whether their price includes this or not, I would suspect that it wouldnt. At the end of the day I guess its a personal choice and up to you but from the looks of it the Nizpro system is a well engineered system and would be hard to beat IMO.
  4. Thanks for the update Brian, you are certainly to be thanked for investing the time, effort and $$ into the R&D behind this project. I know how it is to have a car off the road for a long time as my own project was in the build for 3 years ans has been back off the road for 6 months. Such is the price of big power and progress eh! Anyhow I am looking forward to seeing your car back on the road, and hopefully on the drag strip sometime soon. If you need to detune it to avoid breaking driveline parts I would suggest that would be a sensisble option just so that you can get it down the quarter. Best of luck, Kris.
  5. hiddeous, Personally I think that you would be better served to go with the Nizpro air-air intercooler. You mentioned throttle response, the Nizpro intercooler shortens the intercooler piping around 2m over the factory piping. This is due to the fact that the piping isnt looping back on itself like it does with the factory, it is direct from the turbocharger, into the intercooler, then out of the intercooler directly into the throttle body mounted on the Nizpro intake manifold. The air-air system will also be more reliable by definition than the water-air intercooler system due to reduced complexity (less components) and no requirement for a pumping setup. You will have to consider the fact that you will need to also upgrade to use the Nizpro intake manifold at the same time however. This piece of kit is a very well constructed and shaped intake manifold so you will also get a increase in power from this as well. The cost of the intake manifold and intercooler should be just over $3000 which is less than the CAPA water-air intercooler alone with the added bonus of getting an upgraded intake manifold at the same time! Checkout the Nizpro website for more information. Hopefully that is of some help to you. Regards, Kris.
  6. If you are after show rather than go then this may be a concern for you
  7. In other words, get the Edit now you wont be sorry, or missing anything important.

    Heat Soak

The Cobra system is superior most definitely due to the reduction in surface are of the intercooler piping that is exposed to heat sources. The other obvious benefit is the dramatic improvement in throttle response. I have had a ride in the Nizpro workshop car that is running this system and the improvement is highly noticable. I am planning on getting one of these fitted myself in the next few months.
  9. Toluene is Methyl Benzene and was used in vast quantities in the old 80's F1 turbo days. Essentially it is an octane booster and detonation retardent that will allow you to run more timing and boost. This stuff is highly carcinogenic so be very carefull handling the stuff, unless you are a smoker then you can probably drink the sh*t as you will most likely get cancer anyhow
  10. Martman, I think you could be looking at around 400kw @ the wheels quite comfortably. What transmission are you going to channel this through?
  11. Get an engineers certificate then get it insured by Shannons.
  12. Regarding EGT sensors these are reasonably slow to react, so I wouldnt use them as a primary meter for tuning the car. A single EGT placed before the turbocharger but after all the exaust manifold pipes have collected together is a good budget bet. The above mentioned TechEdge wideband process also has 3 differential EGT inputs that you can plug the EGT probe into to measure EGTs. The setup on my car uses 4 EGT probes located in each runner of the exhaust manifold, to measure the EGT of each cylinder individually (4 cylinder motor). This is obviously the best solution but more costly. I am running these into the TechEdge wideband processor box that I had modified to accept a 4th EGT input. The EGT sensors themselves will cost you around 100 each, if you need the contact for a high quality supplier who can custom make these to your needs please let me know. These are industrial strength pyrometers so are very good. Hope that helps. Regards, Kris.
  13. For an accurate A/F meter you need to be using a wideband oxygen sensor. The standard 'crap' gauges like the Autometers use a narrow band input, as this is easy to translate into a value. A wideband oxygen sensor requires a processor box to translate and correct the signal coming from the wideband oxygen sensor in order to display the correct, and accurate value. If you are after something good, I would try the Australian guys TechEdge who make a really good value wideband A/F meter and processor combination. Check out www.techedge.com.au for more details. This will give you very accurate results as I have the same setup on my car and it was within 0.1 A/F of the meter that was at the dyno place (unigroup engineerings Autronic UEGO). Regards, Kris.
  14. Well theres one expensive lesson!
  15. So they want you to pay for their R&D? Tell them to stick it up their effing ass the slack pricks. that's the Australian aftermarket industry for you....
  16. This system was actually covered on 'The New Inventors' program on the ABC a few months ago. Looks quite promising. Does the factory e-gas system use lpg injection?
  17. Seems ok to me, if it is a high quality 5" cat.
  18. Thanks for that.
  19. Thanks for the link. Interested to find a 5" unit especially, didnt see too much mention of titanium systems on that page.
  20. Has anyone had experience with 4 or 5 inch cat convertors? Looking for flow figures (cfm), prices, contact numbers, pictures etc. Also interested if anyone knows any exhaust places in the Sydney/Canberra areas that can fabricate custom titanium systems in 4" pipe. Thanks, Kris.
  21. Er, its actually Paddles fellas, sorry about being pedantic but I hate to see people getitng it wrong. Bring on the 6 speed...
  22. Our fellow educated forum members know that it doesnt, but to an extremely conservative and risk averse insurer the words turbocharged and modifcations do not mix. I suggest getting insurance cover from a company that understands car enthusiasts.
  23. I never knew that Ford XR6 Turbo owners would also fit into the 'ricer' category, but I guess I was wrong...
  24. Well obviously someone has spent the time and effort in order to reverse engineering the program, otherwise we wouldnt have an 'Edit' solution now would we?
