1. I got fleet and end of model off my BA. Cheers.
2. If you don't have Premium sound then probably won't have tweeters. I have "Premium" and did get the tweeters. The little grill pops out no problem, just the little tabs holding it in, use a soft tool, though to avoid marking the plastic. The front and rear speakers are 5x7, same as the sedans. Cheers.
3. Hi Mate, 98 is available here. Though BP are the only one to bring it in, but they have it at most servo's in town. Now, heres the twist, I can't use BP, So I actually only run 95 anyway! Anyway... Is the winner! Seriously if your in Lonny and care for a drink lemme know. Actual power number was 297... // 300 club does not want me And my daily driving 95 tune made only 285! still nice Thanks guys for joining in, today was a great day. Chris
4. Yeah, and I was advised that it wasn't necessarry... ? Hope they're right.
5. Bah!, Revise your numbers up man, UP. Oh and I will have the results by tomorrow (thursday) arvo, I'll post 'em up fer sure. Cheers, Chris.
6. Hi All, and I would like to welcome you to what is a very exciting time. Custom tune...! The platform is a BA Tornado with 51K km's on the clock, synthetic oil every 7500, K&N filter since about 10K. The work going on is a Dump pipe and cat from CES racing, headsex's deka injectors and an edit (by what appears to be a reputable tuner ). Sooo, what are people's expectations and Guesses. The winner gets beers next time they are in Launceston.... (probably boags!) Cheers, Chris.
7. Nope, Germany... This thing is Large http://www.swapmeetdave.com/Humor/Workshop/Trencher.htm
8.
im keen for 4in dump pipe and 4in CAT. anyone else?
+1
9. Got mine!! Easy, good to deal with and Cheap!. Couldn't ask for more! Thanks!
10. Bugrit, then. Sign me up, though I only need them before October... Thanks, Chris.
11. Hi Tab, Pre-colour screen, I think! Definately Pre-climate control :( Cheers
12. About sound.... I have a BA Tornado and it came with the A pillar splits and the 6 stacker, not the colour screen, though. And the sound was RUBBISH, the splits are not even crossed over properly, the rear speakers are mounted on a flappy bit of tin. The 6 stacker is nice, though. Overall, I think (note "I think" not "is") that the color screen and 6 stacker would be worth the extra, but the sound is no good. If sound quality is important, go aftermarket. Just tryin' to give a "heads up" Cheers, Chris.
13. I built this little circuit, to detect when the head unit is switched on. Since the factory function is to be able to have the music playing without the key in, I needed some other way than ACC Power, to turn the amps on. It works because when the ICC is on (or the key on) the voltage on the speakers is lifted to around 5.5V over earth, and then driven symetrically from there. The 20K resistance is enough to ensure bugger all effect from this little thingy-ma-bob. The resistor values are approximate and the main current transistor has a high current load, also transistor 1 is conducting when everything is off, so might drain the battery in 10 years or so. The main problem is there is a pop after about 5 seconds when the circuit drains, and of course at this time the amps are still on. Overall it's only noticable if you listen for it. Edit: Spelling.
14. Hi Spud. If you use an amp with the speaker level inputs, you do not need line level converters, and the auto switch on (sensing) in that particular amp is a nice feature for your proposed application. It also avaids finding a remote turn on. ACC is OK but you have to have the key on to have the amp on, which is not factory functionality. Hi Ypurv4 - can you confirm that your amp taking signal from the rear parcel shelf is recieving full range? It is possible that the factory amp just adds to the low frequencies, and the phase cancellation might not be too bad, seeing as the speakers and actual sub are reasonable close to each other. But I would be surprised. Also if the filtering to the rear speakers is passive, then ypurv4's arrangement makes good sense. Mine is a BA Tornado, so no sub - all my speakers are full range. Can anyone confirm how the filtering to the rear speakers is done? Good to see a bit of good discussion here. Cheers, Chris.
15. Hi Spud, Good to see people having a dip at better in-car stereo, I hope I can help. In relation to speaker level inputs you have a problem in that the signal to the parcel shelf speakers has already had the low frequencies filtered from them. I have a ute (no sub) so I might be wrong, but this should have been done at the head unit. So for your low frequencies (which is what you want lots of), your only source is the factory sub inputs, which I read on here are full range, and filtered at the amp. The issue here is that the design crossover probably isn't -18db / octave and 80hz. it might be close enough, and you might be able to find a setting you like by fiddling with the bass on the head unit (or amp gain), but it isn't optimal. The low level inputs to the factory amp should be usable, but I believe that they are relatively weak signals. I would expect that the 2 channel amp on high gain would be able to reach a level where it integrates to the other speakers, but again, nothing is certain. Also running consumer level amplifiers on max gain is usually undesirable. There may be hope if you can see a capacitor in series with the parcel shelf speakers, then it's likely that they are receiving full range and passively filtering. I would not expect this, but after seeing what is done to achieve the tweeters in the A pillar, I would not be surprised. If you do find these capacitors then you can use these wires as speaker level inputs on your amp.In this case have another look the manual diargram E for the inputs, and diagram 3 for connecting the sub. Connecting the new amp inputs from the factory amp outputs is philosophically bad. The logic is that every component is the signal path degrades the signal, and an amplifier is a lot of components, and a 'built to budget' amplifier like ford, is likely to have noticable distortion, and then if you are using another amplifier anyway..... The possible gains of using the factory sub amp in this way are that you will have good signal levels into the new amp, and already filtered in the way that the system was designed, so that might be OK. Please post up any specific points that I need to clear up. And Good luck! Chris.
16. Heh, Typo when I was signing on. Oh well.
17. Yeah, what a bunch of cockheads... http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=80405&rss=yes Get over yourselves.
18. Hi All, I have some leftover mobil 1 (5w-50 I think), but not enough for a full change, and I like the idea of the castrol Edge 0w-40. Also since I can't buy 7L I thought that I might get 5L edge and use the mobil. Now this sounds dodge, but can anyone give actual facts about whether this is an OK practise or not? Also opinions with explanations welcome... Fire away! Chris.
19. Hi Ben, Do I have CV joints, I thought these were only required on the IRS setup? being a ute, it's live axle all the way. Cheers, Chris.
20. Thanks, mate, but driving from Tasmania to QLD is a bit of a hassel, being a distant island and whatnot... So far I have spoke a driveline place here and they seem happy to have a look, so I'll go for a drive with them, and ask for the crownwheel to pinion backlash to be set to .006" , and inspect the tailshaft bearings, anything else?
21. Yeah, uselesss ****heads. I've given up on the dealership as they are footing the company line, magnificently. So, I'm prepared to pay, and I understand there are some good shops in Melbourne! So .... Anyone recommend one? Thanks, Chris.
22. Umm, I meant 18th and I can't find the edit post button, Does that help guys?
23. Hi All. I have a BA tornado and while it is a fantastic dual purpose driving/ ute vehicle for me, the diff slop sh*ts me to tears I will be in melbourne on the morning of the 19th August, (a friday) does anyone recommend a shop that will be able to set it up properly in that time? I an heading off to Bendigo, so any thing from the city to way out that direction would be great. Thanks, knowledgable ones.
24. Yes, we should use uranium for power generation. Australia is uniquily suited for nucler power. we have out own raw materials, and our continent is Very stable with lot of low population density centres. The landmass stability and population are important when you take a responsible attitude to full lifecycle operation. Hell we have such a great opportunity for a "permanent disposal" facility that Australia SHOULD take foreign waste. We have the place and infrastructure to to control these materials. I dont know of another place that does, The next most stable land mass is Africa and they don't have the infrastructure or political stability for it. As for it being a good technology, yes. A well operated plant will never have an accident, and anything built ground up with *proper intentions* in australia will be a world class facility. Do you all know about the reactor in lucas heights? It's just a research lab but nuclear reactions occur there and it shows that we have nuclear know-how here in australia. Petroleum (and coal derivatives) shoud not be used in the mass generation grid. petroleum is uniquely suited to portable enegry generation (cars) and on demand backup, and should only be used as such. the power grid paradigm is about connecting sites that have unique locational advantages to all contribute to the nations energy needs. Conventional site advantages have been that a plant is close to a coal mine, or labor, or a good hydro dam site. In the future this should mean, near a high tidal range, where there is a good place for a massive nuclear plant or 330 days of sun a year. Nuclear energy is viable and australia is more suited that any other nation I can think of, yet we sell this resource to other nations. This sickens me in the same way that heommaraging iron ore without value adding, sickens me. If only we, as a nation wanted to *do something*, consider the japanese economy only with resources. Anyway enought rant. I'm pro nuclear power.
