  1. Wicked effort mate, love your work, keep on keepin on.. Mal K
  2. Hey Tab, Sometimes the tricky ones are the most satisfying, and Im really doing my best to have my slice of cake and eat it too. Hardest part is working out the correct sequence of work, as Im inherently lazy and dont want to be doing things two or three times. Have to balance that with not leaving the vehicle in a million bits for too long.. Im just dreaming of the day when its all finished and tuned.. I will notify the insurers of the non-standard 'cooler and upgraded brake package, as for the rest, I will live with it. Not looking forward to fabricating the injector ports to the bottom of the FG intake, but there isnt enough room on the top for both the petrol and gas injectors, seeing as they need to be as close to the intake port as practical. Have to have a couple of practice runs with the TIG, cant bear the thought of frying my new manifold.. If there was only an easy way to reduce the kerb mass by 200-300kg... I have thought of turfing the missus and kids out, but that isnt the most wise move, cos remember this Happy wife, Happy life!! Just have to keep the eyes on the prize....
  3. Hi BB, What are you after, an engine or transmission oil cooler? Perhaps I have misunderstood your question, are you referring to a factory option? There are coolers available for both.. Just work out what you need.. Cheers, Mal K
  4. OK, the saga continues again. Now that Im earning better coin, and Im away with work lots, Ive decided to really go to town on the mighty Territory Ghia Turbo.. Seeing as we really dont need two daily drive vehicles, we are flogging off the BF wagon and simply going to use the Territory. The wife enjoys the space and the power, not to mention the seven seats, and seeing as our third baby is due in September, the BF simply doesnt have the seating for all of us, and our two dogs. Im not going to tell her exactly what I plan to do, but it goes along these lines. 1. Plazmaman front mount and piping 2. Top mount air intake 3. FG Intake manifold 4. Deka 60lb injectors 5. Ballistic 4in Cat 6. Finally fit 6 spot Brembo's 7. 3.46 LSD diff 8. Revised LPG Injection system The research suggests that by using some Keihin gas injectors, which support 100hp each, I will finally be able to run some decent boost (1 Bar +) everywhere, while using the existing gas software and hardware. Its just having to fabricate the gas injection rail underneath the manifold so it doesnt intrude onto the existing petrol rail. I forsee some fine TIG welding ahead of me and a whole lot of head scratching and maybe a sleepless night or two, but its all worth it, especially when there a few doomsayers, knockers and so called experts who claimed loudly that it couldnt be done. To all of them just let me say.... Get Stuffed!! Hah! As to all the rest of the interested masses, I will keep on with the updates and progress, joys and quite possibly lots of tears, recrimination and grey hair. Mal K
  5. System as it stands in the Territory application would be fine as a starting point, using a fixed torque split that is rear biased. Now as to controlling or varying torque split, that's a whole other story. If we can and do have 2.2ton Territories running in the 11's without massive kw's, wouldnt you naturally ask yourself why our super-hp RWD's, often with big bucks spent, struggle to run the same times? AWD makes all the difference, providing clean and consistent launches and allowing good you to put those hard-won kw's to the ground. As to the times when the road isnt clean and grippy, or its a little cold and wet, then its an absolute no contest. Granted, its not everyones cup of tea, but there is no denying its effectiveness. Lets apply a little lateral thinking and work on a way to make these cars of ours a little less old-hat and quite possibly more a heap more fun. Need to get one of each example onto the hoists and see what works.. Just need a few donor bits... preferably whole cars!! Mal K
  6. I still reckon its a doer, and given the huge bucks some members spend to achieve their 600+RWKW, a clever means of getting AWD happening in a BA/F/FG platform would be an engineering achievement that would trump all their efforts. Seeing that a Territory is basically a high-riding Falcon and that even Ford themselves used one as a development mule, its certainly not beyond the realms of the skills and engineering that already exists. Floorpan is definitely an issue, packaging that front diff is another. As has been rightly pointed out, FG runs a similar steering and crossmember.. Imagine the balance and power of an XR6T/Typhoon, with massively improved drive OUT of corners, especially with a nice helping of rear wheel drive bias.. That would be very tasty indeed. Screw the mega-hp motors we all are capable of building, putting all that kw to better use is where it will ultimately be at. Anyone who has driven a capable AWD vehicle or better still, competed against one in a FWD or RWD will know what its like to be blown away by a car with often heaps less horsepower. Its all about getting clever and using their oppositions strengths to our advantage. What say you? Mal K
  7. Hey Scar, RWD is fun, AWD is just faster...! You should try it!! Mal K
  8. Granted, it would be a huge project, but a damn interesting one. Packaging it all successfully in a B or ever F Series bodyshell would be a challenge. It wouldnt be the first all wheel drive Falcon done.. There was an XF fitted with Ferguson four wheel drive mechanicals that featured on the cover of Modern Motor magazine years ago (probably when most of you guys were still in nappies), doing a burnout on a gravel surface, all four wheels spinning... that particular car ended up back in the UK.. It would be a great equaliser to give the current crop of EVO's and STI's a real shock.. The old Territory does a good enough job on 15lb and a set of Deka's at present... Now, how to figure out how to make this Frankensteins machine turn in... Hmm.. Dont knock the dream, boys!!
  9. Hi guys, Thanks for all the advice, good first-hand experience is certainly valuable.. As to the load ratings, you are correct Twinpiston,Ive seen first hand when an insurer had declined to pay out on a claim involving a vehicle with worn out tyres (the poor dude wasn't even in the wrong, just got crashed into!) so Im very wary about those things. that's why I like factory rims with the correct load rating, tough as f^#k and dead reliable. Have also seen what happens when a cheapo rim used in motorsport just touches a kerb.. Boom, no wheel and one upside-down tarmac weapon.... Good, quality rims aren't cheap...just cheap insurance..!! Thanks to all for the good tips and info, I will keep you up to speed with progress.. Mal K
