  1. I'm thinking of replacing my cat. Every exhaust shop seem to have their own opinion as to Ceramic or Metal. The brand CATERAN appears to be very common but have a max dia of 3". Any suggestions?
  2. Question for the ones who know! If an aftermarket cooler was installed on a std T, which it appears can be done safely, would this affect warranty. I only ask because I have my front bar off at present, and was thinking about painting the cooler so it stood out behind my new BF GT bar. Than I thought how s**t hot it would look with a big arse cooler. I am getting a custom tune shortly, but I was just wondering about warranty!
  3. Is the Phoon cooler much better than the XR6T unit. They seem to be popping up regularly as cheap second hand units! Would there be much advantage fitting one to a std T with a custom tune?
  4. Thanks for all your input! I am probably not the only one that gets insecure regarding their cars. After all most of us have a lot of $$ tied up in them in one way or another and there are at time conflicting thoughts! I wasn't complaining, I just wanted feedback re the dyno sheets. As stated, I am in line for a custom tune which as I have already told them I want the max "safe" rwkw's achievable for my car. If it's 240 fine, if it's 260 that's fine as well. Again, thanks for all the relies! Regards Daryl
  5. Hi mickey gee, are you getting RX Engineering to do your custome tune? I'm in line to get my T done there. Keep us posted with your results!
  6. Dagabond, just like to appolegise for any comments that I wrongly made towards you. It appears that something you wrote (which didn't make sence to me coming from north of the border) was not intended as it was excepted. Again sorry!
  7. it depends do you want a safe tune or on the edge tune? safe 245 the edge 270 ← Thanks RBOKSIC, as I stated "safe" is the way to go. I like many others who own these cars, can't afford them to break! Thanks again for your input!
  8. Thanks XXXR6T, what I need to hear is advise/imput from people like yourself. From the info I get I will make up my own mind. If I by chance make the wrong decision, that will be my fault!
  9. Had my T run on the dyno just to see what factory output was compared to running 8psi generic tune. (dyno charts below). With the 8psi (227rwkw's), it is starting to run a bit lean up top. This is obvious even to me. I have been told that this is as good as it will get. They say that it is turning lean due to the injectors can't cope. Sounded feasable, but than I told them about a freinds car that has been custom tuned @ Intune Syd with 256rwkw's. Their reply was "it's a bomb waiting to explode". I am going to get it custom tuned and what I want is the maximum output without any mods. What in your opinions would be a safe and acievable rwkw's without mods from a custom tune?
  10. Just do the maths, and do what YOU think is right for YOU! The only real mod to my T is a CAPA flash tune. With the 8psi tune it's producing 227rwkw's which is similar to a Phoon's std output. (I'm not saying it's as good as a Phoon). I'm just about to fit a BF Typhoon kit with a 2 leg GT wing. I know I'm going to get labeled and moked. But I don't give a flying f**k. It's my car and the styling of the BF Phoon is simply awesome. Once it's out of warranty look out, the mods will come. So just to sum up, I'll have a car that looks like a Phoon, with not to shabby performance. And did I mention about $20k better off! My 2c worth!
  11. Great guide, Thanks! Just one question, where did you get it . I have spoken to them and looked at there website, and their quoting $1000 for the kit!
  12. Sorry if this is a bit off track, but I have been complaining to Ford re a strange noise coming from under the bonnett. It first appeared when I tried running a 10psi generic tune which produced 15psi. A noise like something rubbing, or air rushing sound is made when ever it is on boost. All hoses have been checked by myself, Ford and another service centre. Std tune noise definatlly there, 8psi quite noticably worse and 10psi well not game to use it. I have also noticed that since this noise started that the flutter that usually was difficult to hear and relatively hard to produce, is now quite noticeable and very easy make happen. Even the whistle that was made by the turbo has gone, or is overpowered by this noise. I guess my question is could something have damaged the turbo? How can I tell? All Ford guys says is "I no turbo's, I'm a mechanic". They say if it was R----d, it would be making a whistle all the time even at idle!
  13. I have connected my boost gauge in this position. Std tune registers 6psi, 8psi tune registers 11psi and the 10psi registers 15psi. Have had the T checked by Ford, had tunes updated by supplier, no one seems to be able to answer why. I have verified that the gauge is reading correct by having it checked by a company that calibrates gauges for mining and medical industries. This company is also the only registered business here that can work on police vehicle gauges! ← If your gauge is true I would believe that 15psi on std injectors would mean KABOOM ← That is why I removed that tune immediately. I currently run the 8psi (11psi) tune and a friend of mine who has had his T custom tuned by Intune @ 256rwkw's, says my T feels stronger. I know if I took it to CAPA they would sought it out in a heartbeat. But here in Newcastle there's no one who can help!

  15. I aggree with all suggestions! However may I make 1 further suggestion. When you aproach your local Ford service dept, DEMAND to see the mechanic who actually carried out the sh*tty job, than blast him. I only suggest this because I'm sick of copping a mouthfull from unhappy customers after the mechanics that I work with do similar crappy work. Copping a serve from the service manager afterwards meens nothing to them, a blast from the customer however may just help the next poor sole's car he works on!
  16. My T also sounds weird when it's cold. The turbo won't whistle. it's more like a scraping noise or a rush of air. As the car warms up, the sound disappears and is replaced by a normal turbo whistle. I've checked all hose and clamps, they are fine. It seems that that as heat builds up and something expands which makes the sound change! Any suggestions?
  17. I am a bit confused by this post, why would I post this if I had not spoken to Tony About the software? My read on the situation is this, Capa and SCT are developing the "home tuner" package, and using the feedback from here to build in the features the performance guys want, OR they are using it (feedback) as market research for the soon to be released tuner that has the used changable settings, and the LCD screen etc, I cant remeber what its called, but its two weeks away. Either way its up to them, I dont have a beef with Capa over this product at all, in fact I dont have any interest in buying the home tuner pack, Myself and Muzza, are trying to scrape together a spare $2500. to buy the full version, my interest was purley in the working of the home tuner pack, more to, if we spend $2500. on the full dealer version, are we going to be able to tune the new boxes, what can the dealer software do that the home tuner cant etc. Are we going to get our money back I suppose is the main question, I know I could drive to melbourne and have HPF or Nizpro tune my car, but If I change hardware, im screwed and another tripto Melbourne is required, if I have the software, end of drama. But a spare $2500. when you have three kids, two cars, a wife ETC is not too easy to come accross, so we want to be sure we can get our money back. ← There are T owners (and I am one) here in Newcastle begging and waiting for this to happen. My offer to pay up-front for a custom tune (to help raise the $2500) is still there. I am tempted to go to Sydney as 1 guy I know has already, but as you said, if you change exhaust, cooler etc, it's back down to Sydney. A local tuner would be great and I'm sure he would earn the $2500 back well within a month.
  18. It really does suck! I ended buying a 6 month old T. I had my heart set on a new T, but I was held back for 4 months by the "handbrake". The changeover changed by $8 grand in 4 months. My trade was a 3 year old XR8.
  19. Thankyou Adam for your answer! It actually took 3 days and over 100 views and a statement that I appoligised for to have my question answered fully. I have appoligised to all yet you publicly call me a fool. This is probably why I made the statement I did.
  20. Yes, replacing the cat will make a significant difference, and a "Metal Cat" would be suitable for your application. After replacing the cat you should immediately retune the car, as it will overboost and/or lean out too. You might want to consider stretching your budget a little further and doing injectors at the same time. With the cat replaced you will be at the limit of your stock injectors, if not past them. How'd I go? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thankyou! that's exactly what I needed to know. I also appoligise for ruffling feathers!
  21. Mate, forums are for sharing info BUT if you know that much, you'd also know that THERE IS A SEARCH BUTTON! Have a look around at, ohhhh, I dunno, the 87,086 threads on cats and then see if the majority of people here don't share info. You are asking people to regurgitate, not share. Lumpy <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No I'm not asking "people to regurgitate"! The tread below this "Is It Worth Getting A Edit?" has also been done, but members are giving him the curtiousy of reply! That my freind is the difference!
  22. Thanx for your reply. It's a shame that a big percentage off members from this forum consider themselves above others and can't share their knowledge to help others out. It appears that if your not in the "in crowd" your wasting your time! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Bullsh*t <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You have just proved my point! You where the 103rd person to view this thread, and didn't make a constructive statement! Yes you may think it is bullsh*t as do I. But 104 veiws and no one has fully answered my original question. The knowledgeable people on here probably do get sick of all these questions, but hey "That what forums are for" to share info!
  23. Thanx for your reply. It's a shame that a big percentage off members from this forum consider themselves above others and can't share their knowledge to help others out. It appears that if your not in the "in crowd" your wasting your time! PS: Top looking T. I settled for Lightning Strike, but originally wanted Rapid.
  24. Does replacing the cat make much difference, and is the "Metal Cat" suitible for the T. Running CAPA generic tunes at present with custom tune very soon. Should I replace cat before custom tune?
  25. OK, the Cats restrictive! What brand of performance cat can take it's place so we can have the gain but keep EPA happy?
