I would have to dig around for it but I believe there was a firmware update for BA's back in the day. The VCT & soliniods could get a little gummy pushing the timing out so I think they programmed in a purge once the engine started to prevent them sticking? I think that was something like the story anyway, I stand to be corrected on that. The connectors on the VCT are also brittle as hell so they may be broken & shorting a bit.
As for the rich/lean? Bad o2, vac leak, intake gasket? But if a service cleared them I would focus on the VCT issue and check back re the tune
Does a stainless system have any performance advantages compared to a sh*t steel one? unlikely. Maybe 2hp on the bum dyno? maybe?
If I can't see it & it doesn't effect performance I don't care all that much.

They have been talking about the exhaust material and how mild steel likes to rust, but it's not that bad.
Plot twist, the rest of that van will rust away to nothing before that exhaust ever will
This is all true, but I can't see why the sub $1000 xcal isn't up to the job. I don't think a Haltech unit would make me happier with the tune I've now got. And maybe it would be good to be able to tune myself? but I trust my tuner did a great job and if I were to try myself it would probably be a fairly big backwards step.
Is there a "killer app" this unit has that isn't already on the market? I just can't place this thing in the market.
Yeah basically this. I can justify the $1000 + maybe? $1000 cost for a very reputable tuner to do the job. For upwards of 3, plus I still need to take it to get the tune done at cost, not to mention the fact if I can't plug it straight in with a base map that just works (which won't always be the case for what some builds will be; that starts to get expensive.
But will reserve final judgement on what the reviews are and the actual price when released.

Haltech have just announced a replacement unit for the B series. Offers flex fuel compatibility on the fly, control of the ZF plus all the full cal options & CAN from factory flash units.
What's everyone think?
Yep that's what I'm talking about
Used to do that, don't need to so much now.
Same with me
I'm much in the same boat. Unless it starts significantly draining the other battery.
Thanks guys
I think B series utes have some sort of security system that is different from the sedans? I have a siren in the engine bay which has its own internal battery, which appears to be well and truly beyond it's use by. When I disconnect the main battery the alarm goes off and lets out the saddest wail for about 10 seconds before dying.
I think? that the battery is slowly draining the main battery, if not its definitely not doing the rest of the electrical system any favors. Just wondering if anyone knows of any similar thing happening for them?
Mod the hell out of what you have. Make it comfortable & fun, reliable for a longer time just freshening up things like suspension etc. At least that's what I would do, it's cheaper for me to do that than buy something.
I would suggest the cig lighter socket. If your careful, you can pop the plastic connector off, pry open the terminals and just wedge the new wires in. It'll be on a fuse, it'll be on accessories, it's in the area, its easy.
What he said. Interestingly, the weight distrubution of my ute vs a BF sedan is within 10-20kg on the back axle. (I've got a sport bar, tub, hard lid, wing & towbar)
The old saying "she's a little light in the back" simply isn't correct
