  1. Haha, my mrs has an FG xr6, not a turbo but the thing isn't much slower than mine! Only does it when under boost, no smoke at all when I drive normally. Sent from my XT925 using Tapatalk 2
  2. Cheers mate, I'll look into it Sent from my XT925 using Tapatalk 2
  3. I had that issue with an older car but the turbo horrible. The turbo on this is near new, no shaft play at all, definitely not it's original turbo. Would the seal have gone that quickly? Sent from my XT925 using Tapatalk 2
  4. Sorry, forgot to mention that I don't know what oil was in it, I only obtained the car recently Sent from my XT925 using Tapatalk 2
  5. Ok, so my xr6t is just over the 220k mark, it was fine with the oil it had in it and runs as smooth as any car I've ever driven. Recently I changed the oil to Penrite 10w40 everyday full synthetic which I use with great success in my cortina and v8 ltd, all 3 cars have similar mileage. Problem is under boost the xr6t is now blowing a bit of smoke!? The only thing that's changed is the oil, so I was wondering if anyone has any better recommendations? Or do I look at getting the valve seals in the head done? Cheers Sent from my XT925 using Tapatalk 2
  6. Thanks for the replys guys. I'm still very curious, it would all come down to whether or not the BA throttlebody fits directly to the manifold or not, if it doesn't then there's no way I'm trying. Other than that I can't really see anything else making it difficult, just vacuum lines? I couldn't see any sensors on the BA manifold that would need to be retro fitted, but I'll take another look. If it can be done I'll certainly try it and report my finds back here, but I'm not going to go spending money on it just for slight gains. Plus I'm not doing it till of swapped the intake and battery around Sent from my XT925 using Tapatalk 2
  7. That flutter is the air going back and forth through your turbo. If you have 4 psi built up between the compressor wheel and the engine, and then you just shut the throttle, all that air has nowhere to go. A BOV would normally release it, but without on all that air needs to go somewhere so it goes back out the turbo, which is actually still spinning and bringing air in so it sucks it back up again. Whether or not it's damaging the turbo is a massive argument that's come up again and again. I for one don't think it damages anything, but you are putting unfamiliar load on the compressor wheel so there would be a slight increase in wear on the bearing. As a rule of thumb I use a BOV for anything over 15psi just for peace of mind. Sent from my XT925 using Tapatalk 2
  8. No worries mate. Just out of curiosity, what issues so you think I would have run into if I had of done it? Also, has anyone ever hooked up an FG throttlebody to a BA? I noticed the FG is WAY more responsive than the BA Sent from my XT925 using Tapatalk 2
  9. If you restrict the air coming out of the BOV you'll get a bit more of a flutter, pretty much the difference between the flutter you'd get if you didn't use a BOV at all and the very slight flutter you get with the stock BOV, you get a bit of both and the blue boys can't complain. But in answer to the main question I'm not running a BOV, not while I'm on standard boost Sent from my XT925 using Tapatalk 2
  10. Just a question out of curiosity, how would the plastic standard manifold on the FG hold up against boost pressure? Has anyone ever done it? I'm only asking because I may happen to have a free one soon and the temptation is there to try it out, it looks pretty study, warping under heat might be an issue. I know that there would be no benefit over the FG xr6t manifold as they use an alloy one of their own design which I'm led to believe is much better than the BA/BF one. So I was sorta hoping the standard one might just be a little better. Ultimately, even if it would be ok, it will come down to whether or not the BA throttlebody fits or not.
  11. Cheers for those replies. Tyres are all new and the same, and so are the front hubs. I honestly never thought about the different rolling diameters, I'll keep that in mind in the future. I'll honestly be sitting on the highway and all of a sudden the abs light and traction control light would just come on. Could the sensors be playing up? I'll clean the throttlebody tomorrow and report back, and I need to take the battery out to check on the boost solenoid so I'll reset the ecu then anyways. Sent from my XT925 using Tapatalk 2
  12. Search isn't my friend because I've been searching for solutions for a while now. That thread you lead me to had nothing to do with the brakes issue I have, it was all about warped rotors. I'll try changing the front bushes like they suggest at the end but I doubt it'll do anything other than helping empty my wallet. Sent from my XT925 using Tapatalk 2
  13. I have an 02 xr6t and it has 2 rather annoying issues that I can't seem to fix. The first is the brakes, they seem to shudder every now and then, and make a weird 'burrrrrr' noise when they do it. More often than not it'll cause the abs and traction control lights to come on meaning neither are working. Anyone have any experience with this? I have already cleaned the wheel speed sensors, if anything that made it worse. The second is the idle, it's also getting drastically worse, at first it would do it a little, the revs would drop and the car would go to stall, but now it does it heaps and sometimes the revs will just keep going up and down :/ Makes it hard to take off sometimes (it's a manual) I've already changed the O2 sensor directly behind the turbo, there is another near the CAT right? I'll change that too. I'll also clean the throttlebody out but I don't think any of it is going to help, anyone else have any more information? Thanks in advance. Sent from my XT925 using Tapatalk 2
  14. It's stock but I do plan to modify, I'm not fused about what fuel it uses to make power, if I can do it with lpg I'd be happy because it will be cheaper but if not I'll just behave a little more. Sent from my XT925 using Tapatalk 2
  15. Ok, so I'm pretty keen to go to lpg on my xr6t. I'm just curious as to which would be better? I've heard so many good things about both systems, the thing is I can get a second hand vapour kit fitted for next to nothing, while the liquid injection will still at me back a fair bit. It's it worth spending the extra cash on the liquid injection? And will either kit have much in the way of negative effects like power loss or increased engine wear? Cheers
