if funds are there, do the cat, injectors and valve springs... don't do what I have done! It ends up costing more!! I had edit only... told myself till I was blue in the face that edit only is enough... had it custom tuned... and a few months down the track I told myself I NEEDED injectors, intercooler and cat done. I haven't opted for valve springs yet, as the money wont allow, but I am hoping that I wont need them just yet. Anyways, obviously it costs more in tuning if you change your mind then start adding more!! As a rough guide; 968s can be picked up for around $600 from site sponsor injectors online, cats vary, but I got a 4inch magic cat for $300 from magic performance, and I got an intercooler from ASE for $850... however, I'm lucky as I have a mate in the motor industry who is fitting all parts at very very below cost prices! Simon from extreme ford tuning has provided the tunes... and the parts will be finished today, and hopefully dyno'd tomorrow. Got some pics of intercooler install, and parts that needed grinding... its a long story and I'll post up when its all completed!

I have ns2 nankangs on my 19s. For daily road driving I have had no issues. I've had no issues in the wet, and they have given more then enough grip in the dry. Perhaps not the best for the track when you're pushing your car for a good lap time. But for everyday normal driving, they're fine... I'd rather use these for my daily driving, and then buy some decent quality tyres for track or drag days (I wouldnt use my 19s for a track day anyway) I've done a bit over 10,000km on mine, and they still look as new. Besides, I dont drive crazy on the road anyways, so a high performance tyre is a waste of money for my purposes.

my ASE intercooler is going on this thursday (hopefully). Plus the injectors and fuel pump, with my custom tunes from simon. Should be good! I will let everyone know the results. ASE intercooler looks like a good unit, I will post a quick thread onces its done, but there are heaps of threads on here already mate! ASE, Rajab, APS, PWR, Dynowog cooler, there are heaps!

that's true.. I'm glad I dont have to drive through sydney!! I'll see how it goes in a week or so once I've driven it a bit.. hope it eases a little bit. Its not too bad, just makes you look as though you cant drive smoothly!!cheers for the reply, gives me some comfort that I'm not the only one!!

hey guys, Picked up my car today, with the option 2 Mal Wood ceremetallic clutch. (installed by a local canberra guy) I was told by the guy who installed the clutch that it will shudder in first gear, and it'll take some time to get used to. I also had transmaxz oil put in too. Gear shifts have become a lot harder to make, is that mainly because of the new clutch?? or the oil? It was sorta hard to get it in reverse and 1st.. But I'm sure it'll ease up after a few more drives. The shudder is very noticeable when taking off. I can live with it, as I've started to smooth the take off already. I was wondering if anyone else had the same situation? I was told by the installer that its due to the clutch being a button type. Car feels as though it pulls harder now.. and its only back to standard so far!! Next week I'll have all the bits and pieces put on, and will probably have a 300rwkw tune in it... cant wait I was told that the previous clutch was rat sh*t, hot spots all over it. He said it must have slipped a bit... but I never really felt it slip.. even with 250rwkw... perhaps I didnt really notice! and maybe that's why now it feels so much faster as its actually gripping! Any thoughts, comments or questions??

oh and to add to that... my girlfriends brother just bought a 2001 VU SS ute.. insured for 26k, and through just cars he got quoted $2000, and nrma wants $360 per month.. because he doesnt have the 2000k saved yet, he is going with nrma till he saves the 2k then he'll switch to just cars. So I cant see your car being much more then 2k, it should be less actually.. when considering ones a V8, and ones a 6.. who the hell knows where they pull their figures from... definetly not out of my ass, as the pineapple is still lodged firmly up there from my $1900 reaming.
-
I'm in canberra mate... could almost be considered as part of TAS to some people So I cant see why mine would have to be 1900.. As for your car, ring just car insurance. I'm sure it'll be a lot less then 3 grand. I was with nrma originally, and premium was 1700, but then I lowered the car and as a consequence lost my cover so I had to go with just cars, although the expensive premium, im allowed to do whatever mods as long as I tell them, so I suppose that's alright... still might ring them and see if I can get a cheaper price!
-
$835??? I'm being ripped a new then!! I'm with just cars, 65% no claim bonus, and I'm being charged $1900.. 835 cant be right... that's cheap as! maybe I need to get on the phone and give them a call, ask them why there is such a variation in price, considering age, mods, etc etc I think I might demand $1000 back!! or else looks like I'll put that generous 43k to use when I run my car into the lake
-
agreed... you are being bent over, and copping it prison style... not even soaped up.. My premium is $1900, and that's for the T with all mods I got... however I am still only 23, turning 24 this year.. so next year I'm hoping it'll drop significantly. My premium dropped about $300 this year, but its still insured for 43k (2004mk1)... works for me! I'd shop around for sure, 3k for insurance on an NA, imagine the pineapple they would have shoved up ya if you had a T!

yeah I had to drive the beast to mitchell today for the heavy duty clutch upgrade... unfortunately my car is back to standard waiting for the flash tuner, fuel pump and intercooler to arrive via post... it was meant to be here today so that it could all be fitted on the weekend and then the cat fitted next thurs it better turn up soon... I'm losing hope! hopeing for 280ish when its all done... cant wait for the winter mornings at 6am, driving to work! Should be interesting!

Dingah. From memory the 98ron synergy should be purple... or at least that's what I remember putting in mine when ultimate 98 was out... The green is 95, however, I could be wrong, as its been a while since I put mobil fuel in. But I'm 95% sure the 98ron is purple!

cheers for the replies guys! my mate recently bought a wrx from sydney, and I too warned him of the dangers of second hand wrxs, or any turbo car for that matter... especially because the guy offered him a front mount intercooler, plus this already had an exhaust.. needless to say, he owned it for around 10000km, and had to get rid of it cheap as its turbo was playing! Its so hard to buy a second hand wrx... my other friend, the one whos mum owns STIs... he hammered his 1998 rex, and when he sold it he palmed it off to his mum to do the sale... poor bugger whoever bought that thing!! it got so many high rev rpm dumps!! I was going to buy his mums STI, as I know it hadn't been flogged, but she sold it before I could get into contact!! now she has the 06, so I guess I got 3 or so years to wait if I want her one now I'll shop around and see what I can come up with! and yeah, I might ring up about insurance first... as one massive insurance bill might be enough! I'll keep you guys posted, and I'll post up any possible cars I'm thinking of! Cheers
-
I'm thinking of buying a second hand wrx for the missus as our second car. The little laser is starting to rack up the kms. Any members here own or have owned wrxs?? I've driven a couple, and my best mate had one, plus his mum has owned STI's for the last 7 years or so. I know they are decent cars. I saw a 1997 wrx with 'apparently' only 18600km.. it looks very tempting, but I might need to ring up first. Could have been a typo and probably was meant to read 186000 Is there anything I should know, or in particular that I should ask?? And are there any forum members here currently selling their wrx?? probably looking to spend a max of $25,000.. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! James.

yeah mine is insured for around $43,600... 2004 mark1. I'm not complaining! HA, might work out cheaper then a T56 conversion if this one has an "accident"

I had the coolant flushed and done as part of the 30,000km service just the other day, so I will see if this has helped at all when I next take it for a drive!! I'm sure its nothing major, I was just interested if others did the same. I'll see if the new coolant has helped any. Stay tuned!

whilst driving it has never gone over half way. With edit it will sit 4mm under half way, and without edit it will sit 1 to 2mm under halfway, some times with aircon and on a twisty hill it will sit right on half way... but never goes over whilst driving. Only goes over once the car is turned off, and I suppose this is due to the engine and radiator etc being shut down. A lot of people are saying that theres never goes over half way, but have you guys tried driving it in heat, with aircon, on a twisty road or in creeping traffic with not much air flow, and then shut it off for 3 or 4 mins and turned it back on... surely your car would rise above half way or more?? If not, then I think mine might have a problem.. but because it returns to normal very quickly after I turn it back on, then I cant see that there would be a problem... I just find it interesting that the majority of cars dont go above halfway once turned off. If I leave it for say half an hour, and hop back in, then that's different.. the temp will usually be around 3/4 or a little more... Anyone else got a similar situation?
-
Hey guys, I have done a quick search, but I am slightly pressed for time... the question I have, and I was wondering if other peoples T do the same is this; After driving, regardless of how hard, when I turn the car off and let it sit for a few minutes and then hop back in (say 5 mins or so, some times more), the temp gauge is often over half way, and on some occasions 3/4 towards the hot end. I understand that these cars build up a lot of heat, but is this sort of behaviour normal?? I only ask because on my other two run around cars the temp gauge doesnt budge above half way, whether I've turned it off or not. I know that they wouldnt generate the same heat as the T, but should it still be that hot under the bonnet?? Do other peoples cars do this?? Also, when it does get this hot, I usually drive relatively slowly till I can get a bit of speed up and let the flowing air do its thing... it does go back to normal pretty quickly, even if I dont drive off... so the cooling system obviously works! Just a question out of interest I guess.. cheers in advance, James.

Dodge Viper for me! All about raw power! They're right too, I am tough
-
Well, its not my money.... but I would love to see you put a 6 speed manual in your current car and do a quarter mile run in it!! It would be very interesting to see the difference between the auto and manual, considering its the same driver etc! Would make for an excellent experiment, could also be interesting for the people choosing between manual and auto! I love my manual, just it didnt lose so much boost between changes! Either way, what you decide I know it'll be a car! Good luck with whatever you do!
-
now all you need to do is edit, and a few little mods and let the car match your name what size rims are they?? Looks good! I was thinking of black rims for the orange beast, but I couldnt find a style I liked! Perhaps remove the wing, I removed mine, and it looks a lot lot better, looks a lot more custom too, which is obviously what you want!
-
Looks good champ! like the little touch with the red coloured 6... but could be a little too much like the 8.. however, matches good with the interior!! took me a couple of minutes to adjust, but I think it looks good with the white!

Limits Of Standard Clutch And Replacement Options
JimmyXR6T04 replied to summoner's topic in General Tech
I'm currently running around 250rwkw, and although my standard clutch hasn't slipped once (freak!) I ordered the mal wood option 2 10.5 inch ceremetallic clutch. Its good for around 330rwkw, and with the new mods going on shortly (pushing towards 300rwkw) I dont think the standard clutch will hold no matter how much of a freak it appears to be! The option 2 clutch is $975, plus whatever postage needs to be paid. I didnt need the flywheel, but if you opt for flywheel too, its an extra $500 or so. I will keep you guys posted about how it feels once its installed! -
yup! got the same issue. its going in for its 30000km service within the next month or so. I will get them to look at it. Belt is starting to fray slightly!
-
I have a manual T, and when I hit the limiter once my head almost hit the steering wheel!! it came on very hard and firm. Felt like some one slammed the brakes on for me! I'm pretty sure its normal!

Qtr Mile Times With Manual, And Power Figures With
JimmyXR6T04 replied to JimmyXR6T04's topic in General Tech
cheers cdm, I see your point, and you make good sense. The only thing is, if the gearbox does play up with 280rwkw, or 300rwkw, I will need to upgrade it. If I can get away with not having to change the box, I would be more then happy! I think I will have a chat with Simon and see if he can do a tune to hit around the 280 mark. It should do that comfortably with the mods I have planned. I guess what I mean is, if the gearbox plays up, I will more then likely opt for the T56, even if its slower, as there would be little point in putting in another T5. Unless there are stronger versions of the T5?? but I havent heard of anyone speaking of these. Or is there a way to strengthen them? I dont want to go for anymore power then 300rwkw. And from your advice, I think I might have to chat with Simon and see what we can come up with. Thanks for the help, and I do appreciate the fact you're trying to save me some dollars!! As I too do not want to go out and spend too much more on this car! I will pm you shortly.
