  1. I was told by a mate with some good knowledge and experience that the ryco Z9 filter is basically identical to the ford one. So I usually buy them from repco. Haven't had any problems, and I change my oil every 3500-5000kms. I've been using the penzoil GT oil, and again had no issues!
  2. I think Simon should do that too! We can split his air fares, and then I'll make the trek to sydney to have my car finalized (valve springs and final tune)... perfect plan there mate!! now all we gotta do is convince Simon! or kidnap him!
  3. From personal experience with Simon, I can't fault the bloke!! Does a top job, great tunes, and very helpful any time I need some advice!! And the BF he just tuned with nothing more then his edit tune ran a 12.6... I'm sure he'd be able to get the time slip!! I personally wouldn't doubt a person with Simons credibility... not saying that any one is!!
  4. good stuff Danno! Good to see your beast back on the road. You'll have to take me for a spin some time!! sounds
  5. Good stuff mate!! You can also prowl the streets of canberra with me! Myself and danno are keen for a cruise some place when both or cars are sorted! As said by Dan, plan your mods and try and do it all at once, and get it right the first time!! I've chopped and changed, and did bits here and there... ends up costing more and being a right pain in the ass.. especially because canberra has no reputable edit tuners!! Although, I can highly recommend Simon (extremef6), as he has done some great work with my car, dannos, and various other long distance customers!! Enjoy the ride mate!
  6. I got my fuel pump from Simon Xtremf6. He does an exhange system, where by I sent him my pump and he sent me a modified one. The installation took all of 10 minutes, that included taking out the rear seat! New pump fits straight in, and connects up. Haven't had any problems!! best to send him a PM for more info!
  7. I ran my T5 with 250rwkw for around 7000km. Its now running around 280rwkw. I never noticed any whine until I put the transmaxz oil into it. In saying that however, the car shifts better, and feels stronger. I can live with a slight gearbox noise and whine!! I'm currently saving for the T56 conversion... and if you are going to mod the car, then you should set aside at least $7000 for clutch and gearbox. My standard clutch didn't feel like it was slipping... until I got the new mal wood option 2 clutch, and now I know how bad it was slipping, as this thing just grips! if you are planning to mod, you'll basically need a clutch straight up.. that's not a 100% given thing, but its more then likely! your 200 must have went like a rocket!!! with 190rwkw and only 1200kg... but you'll enjoy the T, they're awesome
  8. $2000 and you're only 18.... damn, I'm being rectally penetrated again!!! I'm turning 24 in a few weeks and I still pay $2000! I have a near perfect driving record too!! looks like I'll be making some calls soon! Out of interest, how much are they insuring it for?? Mine is still insured for 43k, so perhaps that is why its still high?? Either way, I'm sick of the inconsistencies with insurance, age and the car you drive!! I can understand if you've had fines galore and crashes etc.. but I've never had one insurance claim or accident (touch wood)! and I still get reamed..
  9. I think I will state I don't want the car driven unless I am present also!! great idea.. I've had no problems previously... I know the service manager personally, so I will call him tomorrow and ask him why 23kms was put on my car, and why the fuel consumption read so high, as I don't even get it that high when I give it some spirited driving. I just don't want some try hard kid driving my car, belting it, causing damage and boasting to his childish friends. I look after my car, I don't belt it, I am preserving the T5 for as long as possible, then I get some loser absolutely trash it in 23kms... not good!! I'll make some calls tomorrow and advise of the outcomes!!
  10. I dont think they could reload another tune in it... not unless they had your edit box.. I'm sure the car would run into all kinds of problems! However, I'm no expert!!
  11. They'd sh1t and spend the next 4 hours trying to "diagnose " the fault! I always zero my odo so they know they're being watched... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> the last time I reset the odo to zero, they disconnected the battery and reset the thing back to zero anyways!! they cleared both trip A and trip B... so now I just keep a tab on the main odo reading.. can't stuff with that!! And yeah, then they'd re-flash the thing and send my tunes all over the shop, and more then likely render my car useless It would probably have them worried though!! I had to make sure I told the service manager (a good friend of one of my best mates) not to flash the car... that's the other thing that gets me... surely he wouldn't have let them take the car for a spin... unless he himself took it... which would annoy me some what more.. if he wanted to go for a ride he should have asked!!
  12. John McGrath in Belconnen Canberra. I don't wanna crucify them yet, as I want to speak to a mate out there and find out what happened. I guess I'm just really annoyed at the moment!! I might give myself a day to calm down, and ring tomorrow while at work! Its just frustrating, who knows what they did in it...
  13. not only all of the above, but the other day I had some boost issues due to a hose coming loose, and I had been trying to limit the WOT runs etc etc. I'm almost 100% sure that I sorted it, but what if something had happened while the ford mechanic was driving (belting it more like it) ... I could just imagine! IT would be all my fault for modifying the car... not the blokes for thrashing it when it wasn't 100% ready to be driven hard yet!! Unfortunately I didn't want Simon to put a valet tune in it... but after today, I think I might get that done... see them belt it when the rev limiter stops them at 3000rpm...
  14. Well, I had the beast in today to have the combination switch replaced, as every time I indicated left the headlights would turn off and come back on. Anyways, got that sorted out no problems, however when I picked the car up I noticed it had an extra 23kms on it... to change a f*cking indicator switch WTF... not only that, the average fuel consumption had been reset, and was now reading 26.8km per 100... so some *beep* had obviously taken it for a little joy ride!! The thing that pisses me off most is, I understand that the gear box is not gonna last a hell of a long time with the new power, however, I dont need some other *beep* destroying it for me!!! I've been making a conserted effort to keep revs up a little etc etc, and not be too harsh on the thing yet, as I am saving for the new box. I could understand a quick 5km trip to check things, but 23kms... what a joke. On the way home I drove relatively easily with the odd bootful, and I still averaged 12.8km per 100. Also, the car had been there since 9am, picked it up at 230pm, and the thing was well heated up, with the thermo fans blaring They usually give a "curteousy" call a couple of days later, so I might just ask why the car needed to be driven 23km to fix an indicator switch problem... It just annoys me that I take such pride in the car, and try not to thrash the pants off it, and then some *beep* goes and abuses it on his lunch break.
  15. hey mate, I have the SS CAI. Works ok, I could notice the difference in sounds when backed off throttle when it was standard. Cheap quality plastic, and it starts to bend with the heat. Here's a pic I took recently. However, I haven't had any real issues. Sure as hell better then stock. However, if I had my time again, I'd go a custom job!! Would work out cheaper I reckon!

    Ford Video

great vid mate!! I couldn't see it on my temp files want to save that vid!!
  17. I've never been a fan of CF bonnets either, however, given the colour of his car, and the contrast of the black rims, I think it would set it off nicely. Call it ricey, but even with some well placed vents on either side of the bonnet, I think it would look great. Everyone has their own personal opinions and likes, so I guess the end decision is based on what the owner wants, I suppose if some one has their mind set on something, not much can change it... not in my case anyways
  18. Go the wheels... and I'd probably also go the bonnet in black carbon fibre. Looks very custom, and very different!! it will get even more heads turning!! Too many phoons and xr's out there these days, and they all look too much of the same! Go for it mate!!
  19. that's the one Adam, cheers! Re-gapping plugs further today, from .89 to .75, so I will see how the beast goes. Won't need to dyno it again, but I will dyno it down the track once Simon has finished weaving his tuning magic on it.
  20. sorry mate, no pics of the cat install. I think danno might have some pics of his. Its exactly the same cat. I know he did do one post with pics. He'd be the man to ask!
  21. I know what you mean dingah.. and yes, glen is great at what he does. one of my best mates used to work at Ming and he worked with glen a lot. Had a word with glen today, there might be some changes ahead! Still, $183 just to put the thing on the dyno... when I had my original evaluation it was $100, and I really don't see why pat couldn't do it at that price. For starters, from go to whoa, 4 runs, started at 0836hrs, finished the last run at 0859hrs. Fair enough glen had to set the car up, but still... dyno time was less then 25 minutes. If I had been charged $100 or even $120 I would have no problems with going back there again when Simon has finished the final touches. As is, I will look elsewhere. In the scheme of things, he made $183 out of me today, but he could have made $200 when I came back, and even more later down the track because I would have used him again, and again! Yes, the dyno is probably the best in canberra, but as long as it tells me afrs, boost etc, and as long as the important parts are accurate then I don't mind if the final power figures are inflated, deflated, or slightlty out, just as long as the important aspects are correct. 300rwkw, or 280rwkw don't mean anything to me when coming from a dyno. Glen did however print some extra info for Simon to view, some tables etc to help make his job easier, which was good of glen All things going well, I hope I only need one more run! Anyways, I'd hate to see what they charge for dyno time when they are actually tuning a car!!! To get to where I am now, would have probably cost me as much as all the mods!!
  22. Cheers Simon, Big wraps to you mate... its a great testimony to you, to be on the other side of the country and have the tune perfect (bar my plugs). I dont even think your tune needs much of a touch up to be honest!! But I will email you the graphs, and I'll re-do the plugs on thursday, and then we can take it from there. AFRs are pretty much spoton as I mentioned to you over the phone. Glen (dyno operator) also included another table of information with rpm, km/h, Nm, Kw, MAP pressure, etc etc.. so that might make it easier for you, I dunno! DAMN those power curves look smooth as mate! Can't wait to sort the plug issue out. I shouldn't need a dyno run after plugs??? Not at $183 a pop... I'll go elsewhere I think. Or maybe I'll just do the run after you've done your touch ups... not that I think there is much to touch up!! I'm very happy with the low down power... showed a monaro what for today
  23. cost me $183 to have the car dyno'd... that's almost as much as a friggin custom tune!!! And they're printer doesn't even work!! So I have to pick up the graphs later... I don't think I'll go back there!! But now to the real issue... it appears that the car was breaking down under load, and is more then likely a spark plug issue. I haven't yet had a chance to speak with Simon, as he's probably still asleep! So I won't bother him yet. Also, it was evident that there was some valve spring issue, however this was well and truly after peak power was made. Car made under 260rwkw on tune number 3. Tune 2 and 3 made 232rwkw each. The 260rwkw feels a lot stronger and better then my previous 250rwkw, and this is because boost comes in a lot earlier. Anyways, I will have to speak with Simon and find out what he'd like me to do. Tune 3 breaks traction in 1st and 2nd However, I don't think its at full potential if the plugs are breaking down under load!! And so the journey continues...
  24. Mal Wood option 2 is the 10.5 inch sprung cushioned ceremetallic clutch, which uses the original fly wheel. Good for around 330rwkw. Cost is $975. I had it fitted here in canberra for $300. The bits that needed welding were the brackets. Although they didn't require welding, my mate rewelded two of the brackets together to extend them, so that he could fit it the way he wanted. The original brackets would have needed more grinding, and it also cramped the intercooler hose a little too much for his liking. He probably only ground off around 3mm thick, over a distance of 7cm. The grinding wasn't the problem, it was figuring out where the brackets would be best suited other then that, its a great looking cooler, and I'll see shortly how the performance side goes!!
  25. Hey guys, Just starting a thread on the new mods I did, and some of the installation dramas I had. First of all, I previously just had a custom tuned edit.. and before long, I needed more Anyway, I decided to do injectors, intercooler, fuel pump, magic 4inch cat, and mal wood option 2 clutch. Clutch was the first to go in, and after some initial shuddering and some worrying, I decided to re-bleed the clutch (following advice from ben and mal). Originally the clutch was fitted here in canberra, not by mal wood automotive, and gear selection was hard, and bordering on down right impossible to hit first or reverse! Anyway, I had transmaxz put in, and later my mate re-bled the clutch.. Not only did the insane shudder from take off disappear, but it is now perfect to select any gear... top choice of clutch for anyone in the market! Highly recommended.. Next to go in was the IC. Provided from ASE. Quality of intercooler looks great. Installation was a little harder then just "bolt" straight in. Luckily I had the services of a very good mate, who is very good at his job! After 5 hours of mucking around, (re-welding, re-positioning certain brackets, and some grinding of front bar) it was finally installed, and I must say it looks great. I have some final pics of it to come, and have some installation pics... although forgive me, beer was at hand, so I forgot to take quality pics! Cat was no dramas, a local exhaust place here in canberra did the work at a good price! From the experience of the IC installation, I would not recommend it to anyone who is not mechanically minded or has at least some idea! Injectors were the next installation... these went in rather easily... so not much to mention here! And the walbro fuel pump was the same. Simon from extreme ford tuning provided the tune, and it is due on the dyno tomorrow, but after a quick drive on the 95ron map (the gay tune - as simon put it) I was very impressed!! If that's the gay tune, I can't wait to give tune 3 a belt tomorrow!! Cheers Simon!! I will post up more details when I have further pics, and when I know the results of the dyno session, but from seat of pants feel, I can tell I'm gonna love tune number 3 1 2 Pic one is of the left hand side of front bar, no grinding of this side was needed. Pic two is of the right hand side, and as you can see some of the bar was grinded. Both left and right side are symmetrical, so you get a rough idea of how much was ground by looking at how close it is ground to the hole. Next two pics are just comparison images of the two coolers. More pics to come, and final results!! But so far I am one happy man! Especially considering I've been driving around in a stocker for the past 6 to 8 weeks!! Guess I better start saving for the T56 conversion now!!
