  1. hey mate, if you only have edit, and no other hardware that requires a tune to run on standard map, I'd flash it back to standard before service. My car has components added so I cant run a factory tune, but I simply told them not to flash it... obviously they know about the mods.. so it might be a different situation. I'm sure you can request not to have it flashed though. It may arouse their suspicions though, so I guess the choice is yours.
  2. most noticable in 2nd and 3rd. im gonna take it for a quick drive in a minute and see if I can pinpoint any other symptoms for Simon.
  3. I sent him a pm so he knows about the post, just so he can add anything if he needs too. Didn't wanna ring him yet, as it'll still be 7am or something over there he might not appreciate that!! you could be right, but I dunno... the car goes great, there were no inconsistencies on the dyno, no flat spots etc... so that's why I didnt think it was tune related.. I will see what Simon says when he has the chance.
  4. doesnt having a more effective/efficient blow off valve enable the turbo to spool up quicker?? Although the different would be insignificant for street applications, wouldnt it have a slight advantage for track runs??
  5. hey guys, Although I'm still waiting for Simon to finish my tune, I've got his previous tune in there at the moment. Anyways, I've noticed something when cruising, and not belting it. First off, when I put the foot flat I dont notice anything, except for how much I get shoved into my seat However, lately, while cruising, (using half and quarter throttle) when the revs get up around 2500 to 2700 it feels as though the car has a slight engine deceleration period. Its only very very minor, and I dont think a passenger would even notice, however when driving its noticable. The only way I can describe the feeling is if you starting pushing the accelerator and then back off and engine braking occurs, however its not as a extreme as engine braking. Its only very slight, but that's the best way I can describe it... almost as if I have backed off the throttle a little... which I havent. so it feels as though I am backing off throttle even though I am pushing it. But even when in this stage, if I put the foot flat or bring on boost it goes away. It usually happens when the boost gauge is still in the vacuum side of things, and is getting really close to 0psi . Could it just be the ecu adjusting some settings on the car, preparing it for the abuse it'll cop if I mash the peddle??? I haven't called Simon about it, as I dont think its a tune/edit related problem. So I thought I'd get other peoples opinions first!! And then I can try and figure it out. Its not a major thing, just felt weird the first time it happened. Cheers!!
  6. bugger... well I will keep an ear out for an ticking time bombs towards the rear of my car.. not saying that mine is going to go... I dont run anywhere near as much power as some people, but I guess its good to be prepared!! How much are they to fix??? I'm guessing $600+ ??
  7. cracker Simon.. if that's all it is, maybe my missus can do my valve springs for me... shes a hairdresser... damn, that makes it easier... I'll tell her I need a cut, colour, and heating in! cheap as chips
  8. as stated.. T5 or BA mk1, keep clear! If you get a BA either go the 4spd auto of the 6sp manual. My preference would be the manual... I prefer manuals. In saying that however, if you're going the BF... well I'd do a back flip and get the 6sp auto!! Simon from xtreme ford tuning has got some great results from a stock BF 6sp auto and edit only... But then again the choice is yours... either way the 6sp manual has proven itself to be able to cope with generour power increase, the 6sp auto might be a little new still... but time will tell!
  9. yeah, they all try and sell you the bull...herrod tried it on me, luckily I didn't have the $2000 odd at the time otherwise I might have been swayed!! out of interest though, my mate just bought an R33 GTR and he is putting a full racing exhaust on it... no computer mods. He reckons that because its a self learning computer (like the T) that it will adjust afrs and the thing will make lots more power and the computer will just add fuel etc where needed... Anyone know if this is true?? I thought he'd need to get the thing tuned if he wanted max performance out of the mod. He is getting the ecu done, and air inductions soon, so I dunno. When I was installing my mods, I went and had the cat done, then Simon sent back my edit, and all the other goodies arrived, so I was driving around with standard tune, and a 4inch cat for a day or so... just going easy, but I didn't notice any gains... even the one time boost did come on, it still only peaked at 4.5psi (I know I shouldn't have tried it, but I just had to see for myself). So from this, I assumed that the ecu detected a more free flowing system to expel the gas, and adjusted itself accordingly? And the cat is a fairly reputable one, its a magic cat.. And Simon has tested them himself with good results. So I dont think that the cat is still a restriction like the standard... so I am assuming that the ecu adjusted... in saying this however, when I did bring on boost it was never foot flat to the floor... as I didn't want to risk damaging anything
  10. due to shift work, I am only free on the weekends of the 13/14, and 27/28th. And june will be worse because I am being transfered and will be working 3 out of 4 weekends instead of 2. I guess we'll see how it all pans out!! but I'm keen
  11. cheers guys, yeah, what actually happens??? can I limp the car home if it does go bang... I have all kinds of rattles coming from the rear of the car... at first I was told it was just the exhaust, now I am starting to wonder... are there any real tell tale signs that it might be on its way out???
  12. looks good mate! good luck with the re-tune, hope it makes some good power!!
  13. just found this thread while searching for drive shaft issues... typical my car has done this three times... all the times it has done it I have been doing highway driving, and have filled up, or put 20 bucks in it to get me to the next "decent" place (BP or other 98ron fuel). Once it took nearly 50km of driving for the gauge to reach full, and for the DTE to realise what had happened!! But only ever happens when I fill up while on a highway cruise... got me buggered as to why... maybe got to do with the highway kms?? not registering as it normally does??? Had me sh*tting myself the first time....as I thought I had been ripped off at the pump!! thought I paid $70 to refuel for 5 litres OH well, sorry to bring up such an old thread!!! bed time now
  14. hey guys, Just quickly, I was talking to a bloke who had done some decent mods on his car... just the norm for this forum really injectors, intercooler, fuel pump, etc etc. Running around 300+ at the wheels. Anyways, he told me that he snapped the right hand drive shaft, and said that this was a common problem with the BA when pushed toward the 300rwkw mark. I can't recall ever seeing or hearing of anyone do this... I've heard of CVs, and stuff, but all that stuff has been smashed while attempting a PB qtr mile time, and running big power with slicks or very high quality tyres. So whats the verdict??? some thing to worry about? or not really?? I have a rattle coming from the rear, but when I took this into ford (when car was still standard) they told me it was just the exhaust, the way it was set up around the suspension. However, the guy I was talking too said that he had a rattle and it ended up being his drive shaft. Has anyone busted one??? And if so, at what power and what type of driving?? dumping clutch, harsh gear changes etc? Cheers! jimmy
  15. I'm usually free every second weekend (damn shift work ) so I just had this weekend off. But if we can get some interest, we can throw around some dates and take it from there! Would be good to catch up for a cruise... and maybe bring the missus along so if I decide to stop at three too many pubs she can at least get me home
  16. even if you do the conversion, won't you have all kinds of insurance problems???
  17. myself and danno have talked about a cruise before mate... just waiting for the right time, and till at least our cars are sorted! I think dannos is pretty much done, and mine is basically right to go now. Just a matter of getting the interest and getting the days to correspond with everyones working/social calendar!
  18. looks alright mate... I suppose anything different these days is a bonus, as there are just too many BA/BFs out there!! Especially blueprint!!
  19. As danno said, DTS can fit... but be prepared to pay! As stated, I got charged $183 just to do a dyno evaluation... no tuning. Pays to shop around mate, just give a few of the local transmission places a call. I found jake (jakes performance) to be reasonably priced when he quoted my clutch install. As geea mentioned, I'd probably buy from interstate... everything I have bought from interstate as always ended up costing a lot less... then find some one in canberra willing to do the install.
  20. Do the T56s take more oil then the T5??? my T5 took just over 2L .. and that was done when the clutch was put in.
  21. there does seem to be a lot of variation. I'd say average is around the 190rwkw... my car did 192rwkw. It would also be interesting to see what stock power figures people make when they had problems with edit etc... eg, people whose cars wouldn't make boost, and pinged etc... if there was a trend that showed stock cars with lower power <180rwkw = problems with trying to tune, then perhaps instead of taking the car for a test drive before buying we could all take them for a dyno test save the heartache for tuners and owners!! I know I wouldn't buy a T if it only pumped out 160rwkw stock with 5psi! In saying that, I suppose there are so many variables to consider!! Might be interesting to get a poll going or something, see what the average really is... if the sample group was big enough you could probably even do a statistical analysis on it! See if lower stock figures is correlated to lower figures after tuning... you would guess so, but perhaps not!
  22. Makes me appreciate canberra even more... quiet, sh*t all traffic... I dont mind the retirement village I couldn't live in sydney, I'd honestly go crazy. there's no way I'd take public transport... why the f*ck would I have bought a T if I wanted to take a bus to work... so the roads there would truly make me insane! I get cranky when slow drivers in canberra sit in a right hand lane and refuse to move.. .gives me a good excuse to show them the power of the T
  23. makes me feel sick when I see stuff like that
  24. mate, from other peoples experience, not much gain in the muffler job unless you just want a bit more growl. Spark plugs should be fine at .89... however, I had mine gapped to this, and then when I had it back on the dyno with another tune and all my go fast bits on, they were breaking down at around 3800rpm... so I have re-gapped them further to .75..
  25. yeah mate, start saving for the T56 conversion... that's what I am doing! I have gearbox whine already, and I dont even belt my car or drive it overly hard! I don't let it labour either. My Kpa sits around 190. And reading off my boost gauge, has around 13.5 to 14 psi. Great result there mate!! With all my mods, my car managed 260rwkw (dyno reads a little low too), however my spark plugs were breaking down under load! been gapped to .75 now, and the edit box is back with Simon to tweak it some more!! Can't wait! Again, great results! I can totally understand where you are coming from, its the best ever feeling! especially when you break traction at 3000rpm in first and second gear and leave the HSVs for dead! Just respect it.... I've had a couple of instances now where the car has decided to try and let go when I have given a little boot... and that's in the dry!! Great to see another happy driver
