  1. Having just got into a Fairmont myself, I can tell you they're not too bad to drive. I certainly miss the grunt of the T, but in the grand scheme of things the 4L motor has enough punch at 182kw for most of my around town driving! It certainly makes you appreciate the power of a 300rwkw T though! I call the fairmont my grandpa family car, but it's a nice cruiser. Very comfortable, and drives well. I was glad to get another car with 6 stack in dash cd, plus this one has dual climate control, reverse sensors, side air bags etc etc. Mines a BA MKII 2005 build.. near on 43k when new, and I picked it up for 17k, so not a bad deal. It has a few more kms on it then I would have liked, but it should be good for the next few years! I'm really loving the auto (4sp) and I can't wait till I get another T with 6sp auto! I've been converted! Good luck with the new purchase mate! I've already thought about a flash tune for a bit of extra grunt and increased fuel economy
  2. I agree! although I recently sold my XRT, I did an online quote with AAMI for an 06 BF XR6T, and I was surprised with how low it was! I even included mods that would have been on my old car. Got quoted $1050, and on flexi premium it's about $550. I didn't even think to try AAMI when I turned 25 because of the mods. At least now when I get back into an XR I'll know I'll have relatively cheap insurance! Just Cars still wanted $2300 even though I'm 25
  3. that's how I felt when I got rid of mine.. as if I'd cheated on it They certainly look great when they've been professionally detailed! I had mine done for my brothers wedding, and all the swirl marks etc were gone and it looked pretty sweet!
  4. Time certainly does fly!! Seems to be the older one gets, the quicker his time shall go! For me, the decision was pretty easy though, as I never really wanted it after the accident! By keeping it, all I was doing was paying absolute dead money on it! Knowing I didn't want it, but still paying for it didn't make sense (add the T5 factor too). I figured I'd drive around in a normal car, get closer to the age of 30 and then hop back into a turbo/F6/XR8 down the track a little. I'd imagine your decision would have been a lot harder mate.. I guess the hardest part to give up is that turbo rush and the awesome acceleration.. overtaking just isn't the same anymore! One thing I really regret is not having a mate take me for a spin in my car. It ALWAYS felt faster when the missus was driving, but she would never give it full boost! So it was always like a little tease. Lucky for me, there's a few 300+ and a near on 400rwkw phoon that I'm sure would be happy to take me for a spin when I need that turbo rush.. *nudge nudge Max* But, life goes on... and with a fragile T5, a sub standard paint job and the increasing cost of insurance the decision in the end was pretty easy! I guess it's one of those things, where you just know it's the right thing to do, and in the end you don't regret it.. sort of like when I bought it! I knew the debt I was in, but there was not one bit of regret. I was young, and I certainly had my fun! As much as I'll miss that turbo rush and the joy of driving the XR, I'll certainly welcome the extra money.. might even spoil myself with a 50inch TV with the spare cash I've now saved Good luck with your sale Jack, hope it goes smoothly for you! What plans do you have now?? just a normal car for a while? Again, time certainly does fly... I can't believe I owned the T for 3yrs!
  5. sweet! I'm guessing that's what I'll do... this will keep me going, and get me around for a few years and then I'll look at another T or phoon some time before 2010.. maybe even get one of the new V6 twin turbos.. depends on what they're like. That way I'll have options of run out orions, new V6 turbos, or an older low km BF MKII.. either way, I'll end up with something good!
  6. It's a hard to make the decision! trust me, I've been thinking it over and over for the past year or so.. I kept it till september this year because my bro wanted to use it as one of his wedding cars.. otherwise I may have got rid of it earlier! Part of me wanted to keep it, the other part kept niggling away in the back of my mind.. "T5 is gonna blow, paint job is crap, T5 is gonna blow, paint job is crap) At the end of the day, I couldn't justify keeping a car that I wasn't overly happy with! Sure I was happy with the power, and the way it drove, I loved its looks etc... but that little voice in the back of mind, telling me it'll never be the same again! I guess we all have our varying reasons to sell, or trade up/down etc.. mine was a culmination of things. Good luck with your decision though!
  7. the more I think about it, and the more I drive the fairmont - the more I realise I made the right decision! in saying that, I got no doubt that if I had a MKII 6sp XRT, and I hadn't have had the accident, then I think I would have kept the T. I thought about trading it in for a newer T, but then it would be another 5yrs of higher repayments. This way, I got rid of the 'problem' and into a decent car, whilst saving the extra dollars. Seems like a lot of us are giving away our Ts and moving onto something different! Flukey - what are you planning on getting?? just need a change? F6 Rapid - good luck with whatever the new car purchase will be! hope it makes you as happy as your beast did!
  8. yep I think it was more a case of wanting to put my money into something that can start working for me, rather then into a car that's only going to be worth less and less. I had my fun, so now it's time to really start setting myself up for the future. It wasn't as if we couldn't afford to keep the car, but we sort of realised that the extra $1000 per month can be put into another house. There is absolutely no doubt I'll be back in a T or F6, and as much as I'd rather wait till I'm 30, I can't make any promises
  9. I haven't been able to sleep well tonight, not sure if I'm in mourning or what 03XR6T - I'll be offloading them soon.. just don't know what price to put on them. They need new rubber. One tyre is fine, near on 100% tread, but it'll mean the buyer needs to put nankangs on. You interested? PM me if you have a price in mind and I'll let ya know!
  10. Well, the time had finally come to move on from my beloved T it was a bit sad, but I think the decision was the right one. Both for myself, family and future! Some members here will be familiar with my situation, and the time had come where I thought it was no longer a viable/economical situation to keep owning the T. The dealership got a pretty good deal out of it, but at the end of the day I just wanted out of the T, and into something a little more family like (RE: grandpa) I ended up trading my T for an '05 BA MKII Fairmont. Out of this deal, I'll save nearly $1000 per month, which will help by going towards my next investment property. The dealership got a pretty good deal out of me, but I really wasn't too interested in mucking around... as many will know, my T was in an accident last year which caused about 20k damage, and it's never really been the same! Add to that, the gear box (T5) has started crunching into 5th So the option was; replace gearbox with T56 and go on driving my T (which I wasn't 100% happy with due to the shoddy repair and knowing its history) or downgrade to an XT or something of the like! So, now I'm the owner of a shockwave fairmont.. One thing is for sure, I now FULLY appreciate the power, torque and absolute domination that a 300rwkw T has!! On first drive, the fairmont felt like a 4 cylinder car At the end of the day, the fairmont was advertised for 22k, and I walked away with my T being paid out by the dealership and paying 17k for the fairmont. It had a few extra kms then I was hoping, but it's pretty immaculate, and comes with a 5yr warranty (same can't be said for the T). I left the T with ALL mods on it, bar the 19 inch rims... so some one out there is gonna get a pretty quick car, I just hope they drive it with respect and care... otherwise who knows what it'll end up costing them! And I certainily stressed that point to the dealer! I tried to explain to the dealership about the flash tuner, and how it's only meant to run on 98 ron fuel, but I'm not sure if they fully grasped the situation I was explaining at least I left the instructions! I was going to keep the tuner for myself, but then I'd have to flash the XR back to stock, remove the injectors etc. My main goal in trading the T was to pay off my existing loan, and get my repayments down by half.. which I easily achieved! So now, I'll have a bit more spare cash lying around. On top of that, I was informed that my insurance provider would no longer provide insurance for me because I was under 30, so my $1400 premium skipped out to $2300.. I now pay $334 per year All is not lost though, as I can see myself back in a T or F6 a few years down the track! But for now, in light of my cars condition I thought it best to cut my losses and let it be some one else's concern All in all, I'll miss the power of the T, especially overtaking on long trips! But I'll welcome the extra money, and less headaches of always worrying when or if the gearbox goes! I noticed the rear end of the new car seems to have been re-sprayed (either in a rear ender, or re-spray after fitment of reverse sensors).. but it's not where near as shoddy as my re-spray! I probably could have squeezed more out of the deal, or sold privately, but that all takes time, effort and negoatiation! The new car drives well (feels even more stable on the road then my T so I can't complain too much! Anyways, I'll be around and about... at least the mod bug can't bite me now.. I don't even want to change the wheels I'll sell them at some stage! I think I'll wait till orion is launced before worrying about a new performance car, and give it 2 or so years of development and see where we're at after that... All in all, it's been a great, fun, happy, albeit expensive experience, but cars aren't meant to be cheap! I can honestly say, I certainly got my $46k of happiness out of the T during the past 3 or so years!! I guess it's time to settle down a little bit now, especially with an 8 month old son.. I'm only young, and there will be plenty of time for nice, fast cars in the coming years! Although, I did make sure I took a photo of my son in the front seat, just so in years to come he'll know the car that gave us so much joy If there's any disappointment in my decision, it's that the T only had 49500kms on it!! Anyway, I'll be around and about, and especially keeping in the loop about the orions! Unfortunately it was just my time to move on! At least I didn't go buy a commodore!
  11. I'm in the hunt for a 50inch plasma too.. not sure if I want a full 1080p model yet.. so far, the best price I got for a panasonic PZ700 was $3900, but that was a few weeks back, and it's only going to get cheaper. I'm currently looking at the new pioneer kuro models, the XDA isn't 1080p, but damn its picture quality is awesome! and it downscales the 1080p very very well! the LX model is 1080p but retails for around 7-8k the XDA model is going for around $4700 if you shop around! There's a few good options out there, one being the hitachi 50 inch 1080i full HD. It's selling for around $3400 On the other hand, a top of the line panasonic can be had for around $2500 but it won't be full HD.. I don't even know if I want full HD yet! so this might be the option for me at this stage, I dunno! I still don't know what I want yet
  12. too many other XRs on the road, so the de-spoilered look is something different.. mind you, if you have a bland coloured car then of course it'll look like an XT. If you have a colour that only the XR or FPV range come in, then it'll be different and stand out from the other XRs
  13. 48k on mine, it's a January 2004 BA MKI
  14. not only is it de-spoilered but it's also in the best colour perhaps we need a poll for this whole spoiler/no spoiler thing!
  15. cheers mate and yep, that chrome turbo badge in the middle looks great!
  16. I prefer the no spoiler look... no wonder they're called spoilers, they spoil the car I had mine filled in and re-sprayed for $300. When I went shopping for an XT bootlid, it was around $400 for the boot, plus painting here's a couple of images of mine (hopefully they work) anyone know why when I insert the image is just comes up with a little thumbnail with a cross in it?? and it won't show???
  17. my average says 11.8, and I usually get anywhere between 450-550 around town (depends how heavy my foot is, and what mood I'm in)
  18. rumour has it that the hitachi is only 1080i, but has been advertised as a 1080p... thus the massive reduction in price, I'd hate to be one of the people that paid near on 5k for one who knows the real reason, perhaps they're just not as good as they were initially intended?? especially with the new pioneer models, which are around the same price bracket, mind you, they're not full HD. Maybe I'll sit back and wait, pay the XR off, then go shopping for a new TV.. problem is, my current 3.5yr old 42" plasma has just started playing up again! Hopefully it'll last till at least christmas, that should give me plenty of time to do my research and get the best bang for buck tv.
  19. hey mate, I too was looking at the hitachi full HD.. however, I have been spooked by a few things. Firstly, it was a $4999 tv, the other day I got it offered at harvey norman for $3999, haggled a little and got it down to $3600, then apparently it's getting even lower. See this site, has some great info.. I just don't know why the hitachi's are dropping so rapidly!! sort of makes you wonder http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtop...3284&st=160
  20. I'm currently in the hunt to upgrade my 42" to a 50" and so far there's a few brands that have really stuck out for me. Looking at the panasonic PZ700 (full HD), or the PX70A (HD). Prices for the PZ are $4999 advertised, but the best I've got down to so far is $3995. Best price so far for the 50" PX is $2650.. picture looks awesome, but it's not full HD. I'm not overly fussed on full HD just yet, as I don't expect to buy blue ray anytime real soon. Also thinking of the new pioneer 508XDA, although not full HD, it has an awesome picture, plus comes with 5yrs manufacturers warranty, plus installation by pioneer. At RRP $5699, it better be good! Haven't got a price yet, but have heard others getting it down to around $4500 without too much haggle.
  21. I'm with dags on this one... I don't think I like it at all. Time will tell though
  22. hope they're side on enough for you doh, they don't appear to be working (not sure why)... do a quick search mate, and you'll find a few pics of my car around.
  23. I don't understand people who don't at least have 3rd party property insurance... imagine the water works if it was a little more serious and she hit a brand spanking new merc, BMW etc.. any new car for that matter. She'd be up for a lot more then a few hundred. good luck with whatever you decide to do mate.. keep in mind, if you don't get it fixed now, you may regret it later! maybe see the panel beater, and get a new bumper fitted and she can pay it off slowly?? I don't think it's fair that you should have to compromise.. perhaps I'm just harsh though

    Foxtel Iq

I love my foxtel IQ. When we got foxtel, we decided to spend the extra, and get foxtel in the lounge room, and the bedroom. I would have been paying around $100 per month for all the channels anyway, so for $25 extra, I get IQ in the lounge room, and normal foxtel in the bedroom, all on platinum. Obviously it'll come in handy being able to watch different shows/channels In all honesty, we haven't used foxtel in the bedroom much, but it'll come in handy when the young fella gets older and starts trying to compete with me for the remote
  25. if I'm still around I'll be taking vid footage for sure! It's one vid I want to get, so here's hoping I can hang around till yours goes on mate
