when mine is down to 40km or so, it'll take around 55L of fuel, so its still got a fair bit left.. I don't usually let it get too low though.
-
then I'd have to let them drive it too

unfortunately what he says is true, I just try and delude myself for as long as possible I'm hoping it lasts, if not, I'll prob get rid of the car. However, if you don't drop the clutch, and belt it every single time, then you can maximise the life of it. I always get paid out for not "going hard" but I don't see the point when I only wanna keep the car a year or two max. If I was still gonna keep it past then, I'd do the T56 upgrade now Mind you, if my mates are willing to buy the gearbox, then I'll blow the T5 to pieces as soon as I can

looks awesome mate one seriously tough looking XR

As long as you have a filter, you are safe (not legal though ) ← so a filter over the BOV?? I was under the impression that air wouldn't get sucked through?? when I put my hand over it, I could certainly feel air coming out.. or would it suck air in when the car is under load?? I was told that a filter wasn't needed because air wouldn't be getting in that way, only out. Many thanks to all the replies guys, it's much appreciated.

bugger but whether its set up to be plumb back, or as mine is, it's still doing the same job isn't it?? or is it more efficient in one form or another?
-
Ninka, I'm assuming that what I've done to mine is still safe?? as it's still using the BOV but simply venting atmo?? Or is there more to it then that??

in car vid from the lights, but not going too hard. I found the link, and got a few mins before I leave

some more vids.. damn thing wouldn't let me edit my last post In car with standard BOV http://video.google.com.au/videouploadfini...ca064d3b5633fb1 Another outside shot And an in car shot from the lights, but not going too hard.. hmm, I lost the link for this vid, so I'll upload it later, I gotta get to work
-
here's a quick vid of what it sounds like
-
that's why I replaced mine with one that's made to vent to atmo. It sh*t me to tears. Now I don't have one at all. Been this way for almost 12 months and I had the front pipe off on Saturday, and the turbo looks brand f***n new still. Not a mark or bend on any blades, and I have been running atleast 10 psi that whole time. ← yeah it's a bit annoying. Although, being a manual, surely I'd be placing more stress on everything then the auto would be? it's not that often that you lift the foot on the accelerator in an auto.. or would it be irrelevant?? I'm still trying to get the vids to work What does it sound like without a bov at all??

Bonnet Release **merged Topic**
JimmyXR6T04 replied to Honest Gaza's topic in Interior & Exterior Workshop
mine broke it just hangs loose, but I can still open the bonnet. I just clipped it back up and under and it holds there. Couldn't be f*cked getting it fixed, it got broken when the smash repair place were doing repairs but they had my car long enough, I couldn't bare to hand it back over -
I dunno what I did when I hooked it up, the vac gauge didn't work.. but my mechanic mate popped over while I was at work and sorted it out. I think I may have just knocked a vac hose off. He's gone away for a while, but when he's back I'll ask him exactly what I did wrong. It just sounds weird when it makes the whoosh noise after everytime I back off.. I'll get some vids and see what you guys think
-
well, I just took the car for a quick spin, and it idles fine, has vacuum.. everything is fine.. except; Is it supposed to make that ssshhh sound even when I don't build up boost?? if I put the foot down (1/4 touch) so just cruising, then back off it makes a ssshhh sound. If I put the foot down and build say, 1-3 psi, it'll make the ssshhh a bit louder, if I go over 5psi it'll make the ssshh tu tu.. then if I really give it stick it'll make the ssshhh tututu.. I sorta like my old gobble gobble noise.. It's louder for sure, but I'm still deciding if it sounds better I'll try and get a vid tomorrow and see if it sounds right.. in the mean time I'll check some of the BOV threads and see if mine sound similar. I don't think it does

there's a few places that do edit. Gentech, who are also a forum sponsor, but mainly deal with holdens and LS engines. Jakes performance also do edits My bet, would be ESP (extreme Street Performance) in Queanbeyan. Glen used to tune for DTS, and really knows his stuff :biglaugh: The last time I was there, I think they were charging around $700 for custom tuning (3 tunes). Best to go speak with them though. They're on Gilmore road. They're getting good results from what I hear, and also tuned Diablo, the worlds most powerful WRX.

cheers guys. The car idles fine I'm guessing I've just knocked off the vac line then. My mate will have a squizz and ensure that's the only problem though, but I'm guessing it is.

hey guys, I'm guessing I've done something wrong here so I've got my guardian angel coming out to have a look at it later this afternoon to see where I went wrong. Basically I did what everyone else was doing, and I blocked off the part at the back of the cross over and left the BOV to vent atmosphere. I just wanted to see what all the fuss was about, and try some rice for dinner tonight Anyways, all went well, or so I thought, until I kicked the car over and I noticed that the boost gauge no longer went down to vacuum when at idle. It sat at 0psi. I'm guessing I've either done the mod wrong, or I might have knocked the lines from the boost gauge out. Either way, I'm off to work in a few mins so I don't have the time to pull it all apart again. I have my mate coming over around 330pm this afternoon to suss it out and call me when he discovers where I made my mistake. Can anyone with a vac/boost gauge tell me if their car still shows vac when at idle with this mod done? I'm assuming it should. Cheers, Jimmy.

304rwkw, and roughly 700-800nm. Boost hits nice and hard too, and the clutch has had no issues so far.

no worries mate, as long as it didn't damage anything.. in general, how does it feel to drive?? with your performance tunes in? If it feels strong, and drives well, I got a strong feeling that you may not have a problem at all. When my car was first tuned to 300rwkw, I belted it in 1st and 2nd and boost only went to about 8-10psi, and I was concerned because I thought it was meant to be 15psi.. only when I rang my tuner to confirm things, he said that in the lower gears it was best to keep the boost down a bit, so that's what he did. I then took it for a spin and 3rd and 4th would only boost to around 12psi.. I again gave him a buzz, and he said to check the hoses.. I checked the hoses and the throttle body was loose. Tightened her up, and went for another spin, hit 15psi in 3rd at around 3100rpm, and then by about 4500-5000rpm it was dropping back to around 11-12psi. All tuned that way to help protect the standard bottom end and my standard valve springs. The car still drives great, and feels awesome. Perhaps it's just the way the car is tuned. As you said, get it on the dyno and check out the afrs and how much boost it's running. It could very well be just the way it's tuned. Good luck with it all, hope it all goes well.

I've got the option two in my car, and it holds the power really well It was installed by a shop in canberra, and initially it was terrible.. it was really hard to select 1st and Reverse, and the shudder was unbearable. My mate re-bled and clutch fluid and we put some new stuff in it, and from then it was almost 90% better. I've basically got used to the shudder now, and I rarely have a big one.. usually just a slight shudder, some times none at all. One thing you'll have to be wary of is the gearbox. I don't drive my car very hard for fear of f*cking the gearbox, as I don't want to put a T56 in it.. I'll probably only keep the car another year or two, so I'm better off trying to keep this one alive.

I did my fuel pump for the extra safety margin, plus it helps get a bit more power out. I think I paid around $300-$400 from extreme ford tuning, but this was for a walbro pump already modified to fit the ford swirl pot no mucking around when it came to fitting in. Easy as removing the seats, undoing the pump, and putting the new one in. Just the other day I removed the pump and checked it out, as I'd heard some horror stories with the walbros pumps. Apart from a dirty pre tank filter, all was great. Although I couldn't buy a new filter ford said I have to buy the whole pump, I just sprayed some carby cleaner over it and through it, and it's all sweet

No leads here mate. Could be a dodgy coil pack though. But if you got a miss and its under warranty take it back to Fraud and let them work it out! And 350kms a tank sounds perfectly normal to me. Its a 4L Turbo 6. You ain't gettin' fuel economy no matter what you do. Best bet to maximise it is to get yourself an edit and get your tuner to do an economy tune. This will give you the best possible economy you can, and probably still more power than your getting mow... That way you can flash back and forward between the monster map and economy map as you wish. Chris ← I agree. And yep, what do you expect from a 4L turbo One thing to check; when you fill up, make sure that it's actually filling to 50L or more. I only got around 320km or so off a tank, and when I filled it up it didn't fill to anywhere near 50L. After that, it was fine though. Also, if you're driving in mainly city driving, expect worse economy. I get between 350 and 480, depending how I drive.
-
I agree
-
you flahsed it back to standard?? with all those mods? farken hell dude.. don't touch your car.. don't touch the keys.. talk to a tuner or mechanic. Surely you should know that bigger injectors plus all the other mods on the standard tune is bad news. if you're gonna touch the car, ask for someones advice first or at least keep the current tune in there, so that it's actually running how it's supposed too.. fark knows what damage you've done with all those mods and a standard tune

Tried getting them changed when I bought the car but as it was on the showroom (and not out of the factory) Ford wanted $1000 per rim, so I settled with the 18's. They have grown on me and I quite like them now. Rob. ← $1000 per rim I would have settled for the 18s too mate.. geez, what a rip. Looks awesome anyways, absolutely love it.
