  1. If Kewish get my Gearbox back before Thursday the monster is coming down with me too. Otherwise I'll be the official support crew for someone!
  2. Cheers Luke. Seems my diff will be fine! As for my trans its an 10/04 build, but the planetarys are being replaced anyway, since I broke 2 teeth off them completely. My doughnut coupling is ok, have checked already. So the CV's in the driveshaft will be the next to go I guess!
  3. well, my Auto is being rebuilt as we sit here, the next weak link will more than likely be the diff. If I can bust the Planetary's in the auto then the diff shouldnt be a challenge for me! What is the best way to upgrade? Do the internals of the ute diff match the sedan? Anyone blew up a ute diff? Or any XR6T diff for that matter!

    Help !

Some other possibilities- - Your new efi line is too short and the sprung swirlpot isnt touching the bottom of the tank. -Your efi line is too long and kinks when you compress it to put it in the tank. How can you chop and change and return it to stock? Didnt you have to cut and join the plug in power lines to the walbro? How can you then just chop and change fuel pumps? The power to the fuel pump actually comes from 2 different relays. When you turn the key to the on position, the same position the key sits after you start your car, it uses the designated fuel pump relay. When you turn the engine on and it cranks over, there is a separate relay that kicks in to give the fuel pump more power while cranking, and the designated power supply actually comes from the computer.
  5. ANOTHER UPDATE, Just got the news from Kewish yesterday that I have broken some teeth clean off the gearsets , Burnt the 2nd gear Band as I've worn off all the insulating material on the inside of the band and it was starting to scrape the metal band on the actual drum! It will come back tougher than ever, including a 2500rpm stall, and the Mandarin monster will be back on the road faster than ever before. Just spewing as it prolly wont be ready in time for Calder next friday night
  6. Hey guys, A few of us from the various FPV and XR Clubs of Australia will be in Melb for the FPV open day on the 26th Feb. Many of us are coming down earlier, so I'll try and get a few more names from our club forums and come out. Would be great to meet you guys!
  7. UPDATE! Well, after some great advice from Geea , and a couple of chats to Dave at Kewish Automotive, (who is such a great guy with supplying details of whats going to happen!), the Mandarin Monsters Gearbox is out, and fitted into a custom made BA Falcon gearbox transport box I whacked together this morning. Should be on the Truck to Dandenong as I type, So the rebuild will start tomorrow! There was no significant signs of damage in the filter or pan, just dirty oil and a little very very fine metal specks on the catch magnet in the pan! Will be interesting to hear dave's results tomorrow!
  8. How much boost are you running at the moment?? Its about 15psi max, and tapers off to 9.5 @5900rpm
  9. Mate Im a perfect example, I've just broken a band in my auto gearbox. What am I going to do, revert it back to stock and get another from Ford? No Way. Its going to get an upgrade at an Auto specialist. And at my expense, so it wont happen again. Why would I put the same problem back in again?
  10. Just wondering who has upgraded their wastegate actuator and to what? Is it possible to buy one and install it yourself? Do you need a retune after the upgrade? Who makes them and where to get it from?
  11. Have a 160 Degree thermostat and a big Hyperflow cooler, It never gets to half and runs at 1/4 90% of the time!
  12. Well, software didnt work, I have no 2nd or 4th today. Spoke to Geea, he said I've broke a band, since the clutches control 1st and 3rd, and the bands control 2nd and 4th. So not major damage anyway. Im ringing Kewish and Prestons in the morning and explaining exactly what im after and we will se how it goes from there. As fart as you other kinky F%$KERS go out there, I'd rather not know who is using who's box and how good it feels etc.
  13. Hopefully its software and I wont have too. must eliminate the easiest solutions before worrying about the complex ones. we will see.
  14. Ha Ha! Sorry mate, I thought you might have held my common sence a little higher than that! Thanks for your concern. I would have thought anyone that is as hands on with their car as I am wouldnt need any fore warning. I Have gone to the greatest lengths possible to conserve the standard gearbox for as long as it could. I didnt start this thread whinging about it, just letting everyone know about what has happened. Now back to the issue, After thinking about it a little all day while at the drags at WSID (which was awesome by the way!) There is a few things that dont make sence. There is no flaring previous to any problem, there are no special noises, oil leaks, shifting delays in the gears that work or any other indication of a problem. Oil was changed 5000km ago. Im thinking its spat the dummy and gone into limp mode, locking me out of 1st and 4th gears. So tonight, I've disconnected the battery, and will leave it overnight, go out in the morning, re-connect it, reflash my tune in and go for a spin and see if the problem dissappears. Fingers crossed.
  15. Its certainly an interesting point. In respect of the tuners, as in most cases these days, the owner of the car may well have a variety of work done at various places before the tuner gets to even to see the car. Custom tuning a customers car, without knowing the exact state of the products or the workmanship on the car would be like sometimes a cross between russian roulette and trying to make a purse out of a cops ear. In my experience, if there is any problem that comes from a tune, the Tuner would always do the absolute best to rectify anything WITHIN THEIR POWER to get the customer happy and the customers car running at its best. Even weeks or months after the initial money has changed hands for the tuning work. If someone has an issue or is worried about what might become of their car, then leave it alone. Tuners pride themselves on their abilities and market themselves on their customer relations, professionalism as well as tuning results.
  16. My car is 48000km old in total. Things happen. Im just wondering what may possibly be the problem? if anyone has any theories on whats happened? I though if it was starting to slip it would still catch the gears but at higher rev range? If its possible to repair. As for what options, Its crap being here in Canberra, there is SF All options, anything would have to be sent here to be installed. I checked out Geea's thread, sounds like he's running a big box for a big car. I heard Prestons Auto's were doing an exchange gearbox's too. Im just not sure how a modded gearbox will effect the edit settings I currently have for the standard gearbox. So many questions, does anyone have Kewish's or Prestons contact numbers??
  17. Wheels, diff gears maybe? If theres any wheelspin on the dyno too??
  18. Well, its been in the pipeline, But here is the question- How long can a stock auto run around with 290rwkw, with nothing but some edit modifications to line pressures, and a tranny cooler fitted with a thermo fan? Answer- exactly 19, 875km, then theres no 4th gear! Coming home from work tonight, turned out from a T intersection onto an expressway and gave it a bit, coming up a hill, then, as I was hitting about 120km'h, stamped on it to get around a car, she kicked back to 3rd, and never came back to 4th. Tried shifting into manual mode, the number on the dash definately changes to 4th but I can assure you the gearbox nows nothing about it. Theres no strange noise, car doesnt hesitate or anything, its just got no 4th gear. Time for an upgrade , anyone with any recommendations???
  19. It was kinda funny at the time, Im sure he knew everything that I was asking but was playing the vague game. He was a nice enough guy though. I did get a figure of 480rwhp quoted on the day from him, with plenty to come he assured me. It looks tough though, no arguements.
  20. Average speed of 59km/h for 13.4ltrs per hundred km, day in day out! I drive my car 120km a day, every day.
  21. Ha Ha! I remember speaking to this guy at the summernats about his car. I asked "what injectors are you running in that thing? They dont look stock?" He replied-" Dunno, probably bigger ones. Its painted the same colour as Lamborghini's though!" I asked- "Is the 8 throttle body setup developed by Harrops? The same manufacturers as the Expensive Daewoo ones? A friend of mine was sent these throttle body's to test and said the results weren't that great' He replied-" Not sure, but its got an orange pearl thru the black paint on the bonnet" 'Who built the cams?" I asked 'Dunno, but its a big one. Did I tell you the orange is the same as a lamborghini?" Then I walked away slapping the forehead
  22. Sorry mate, Got a price from Nizpro for all the work I want done and just cant afford it right now! Great pics guys, roughly how long does it take? Is it best to leave the Cams in place and use compressed air to hold the valves up??
  23. I got smacked the other day from a Evo on a rolling start too. Started out at 80km/h and we both gave it to em from there. At 200km/h it was 2 car lengths out and revving its *beep* out! Found out it runs 240kw at all fours. I was impressed!
  24. Just wondering if anyone has any pics of a T showing the valve springs either being installed or removed? Any pic will do, just want to see how they all fit together. Done a search for the last 20 mins but got everything but what I wanted!
  25. If its a better all around gearbox your after, I think most people would agree with this, best to worst- 6 Speed Auto, 6 Speed Manual, 4 Speed Auto, 5 Speed Manual If its modification Value for money, Then the 4 Speed auto would be the best, as there's not really any data on modifying the 6 speed auto as yet! Either way, the 5 speed Manual is sh*t!
