Just got back from the Dyno comp at the Nats, and saw a twin turbo Late model camira with a HPF sticker on the front windscreen, pull 1260rwhp on its first pass in the final. Second pass, the thing ran really lean (Even hitting 14.7:1 AFR) then at 1210rwhp, blew an O ring somewhere in the valley and with somewhere between 6 and 8 fuel pumps in the car burst into flames! Just awesome! He was the highest overall, and won. The forced induction 6 cylinder category was won by a Skyline GTR running 670rwhp on pump fuel. Second was a turbo V6 Rodeo ute (Yes, You read it right!) with 640rwhp! About time we saw some 400+rwkw Fords there guys, a little dissapointing. Only saw 2 6T's there the whole weekend, and none on the dyno.

So who is CATCHME? I'll be at the nats today in about 1/2 hour actually. I'll be pissed if I dont see a silver F6
-
Aparently the turbo cars MUST be run on pump fuel, but the N/A cars are run using whatever fuel they want!
-
So is anyone entering in the dyno comp? I met a guy last light that has his 800rwhp Skyline in the 6f category??!!

Thanks guys, im stoked with it. Its amazing how many people actually look at it now instead of with the stock wheels. Good as long as its not cops looking!

Gee mate, this is dragging up some old thread from the search engines! Its a little easier to control boost using this method though, right?

19's buddy! Thanks for the complements. Might get a set of king superlows for the front and re seat the rears soon. Just to drop it 20mm or so. I am a little worried about lowering it too much, as I have heard a few guys complain about diff and tailshaft noise once the ute is lower and the angle of the tailshaft changes a little.

Heres a couple of crappy pics of my ute with the wheels I bought from Simon at Xtreme. I think they suit the beast pretty well! Let me know what you guys think?? And another

it sucks, No one ever even looks like challenging me. Actually, I have noticed since I upgraded my intercooler, everyone looks, but no one wants to play! Maybe theres something about a Mandarin ute with a big cooler on the front that dumps around 15psi of snarl out the wastegate when I back off approaching the lights that scares them? Dunno Why?

Thanks guys. The in line fuel filter was changed just 2500km ago, it had a fair bit of gunk in it but nothing like I saw yesterday. Im gunna get another one today anyway, fix the lot so I can drive the thing knowing there is no trace of the problem in the system anymore. I dont think there would be enough crap in the tank to call it sabotage though. Just consistantly poor fuel. I dont think it would happen with one bad load of fuel. The tank has been cleaned totally, since we went to all the trouble of getting it out. Hopefully my pump gets to the thriving metropolis of Goulburn today, So I can start my holidays tomorrow with an 8 hr drive to Lightning Ridge (far north NSW) to visit my folks for new years. Fingers crossed.

Every Ford ute in the BRUTE series has a BA front panels on an AU complianced chassis, as they can only run the old 5 ltr motors.

Full marks to you, Adam. Well, to continue the story, got here (Goulburn) in one piece, and got the car to a repairer, (Good bloke who has only been in his own business for 2 weeks, used to work for Ford!) After much swearing and head shaking, we got the sender unit out of the tank to find a 9 month old Walbro pump with a nice little MUD PILLOW attached to one end of it. In tank filter was chockers full of crap, and the pump was totally seized!!! Dave, (the mechanic) said it was the dirtiest filter he has ever seen in 17yrs, for a 15 month old car, and also agreed ANY fuel pump would have failed under the fuel conditions. I will post some pics when I get sorted and get it going again. We both rang everywhere we knew that may have a walbro fuel pump, there is NONE in Canberra what so ever, Tried ringing C+V in Sydney, MRT performance, HPF, all were closed, as expected. Ended up getting one from somewhere in Melb (im not sure, but Dave has dealt with them a bit!) put in an overnight bag and should be here tomorrow at lunchtime, so hopefully I can get it going before the weekend! So here I am, stuck in Goulburn for another night, with a huge repair bill all thanks to VORTEX 98 bought at CALTEX BRADDON, ACT. dont ever buy anything from there! Im going to send the filter and a copy of all of my fuel reciepts to Caltex and see if they can subsidize the repairs, since I have used the fuel from one pump at one servo 97% of the entire life of the car, and find it hard to believe that much damage could be done from the other 3%.

ok, well, here I am, at home now. we eventually drove home from Bungendore, the excel stopped twice on the way back, but we got home. The Hyundai dealership wasnt open till today, so we wasted another day yesterday doing nothing (bit of tidying up around home!) and wait till today. Got up this morning, rang the Hyundai dealer first thing and when we drove there it broke down again right in their driveway! Problem was a faulty throttle positioning sensor. They said they could attempt to solder the connections at the bottom of the sensensor which fixes it in 80% of the cases. Guess what? Didnt work for us!!! They had to order a new sensor, and it wont arrive till tomorrow!!! They should have it going by tomorrow arvo! Meanwhile, My ute has been sitting in Goulburn the entire time. I was informed today by my local ford dealership that it would be near impossible to get the inner ute liner out as they are "Stickerflexed?" (something like liquid nails?) down to the chassis when I took it in with a complaint about 1000km old as the liner was tapping on the chassis. So Im about to ride my 250cc road bike from here to Goulburn (100km), to try and organize someone to tow it to a workshop with a hoist so hopefully I can find the problem. I was aware about the fuel line problem, but it isnt the fuel that's an issue. Its Power. My fuel pump has been in for 9 months using Mercedes Benz submersible fuel line without a problem. The issue is there is no power getting to the pump now, as its not even whirring when the key is on. I would imagine if there was a problem with the fuel line, the fuel pump would still work, but not pump fuel. I'll let you know how it goes!
-
The ute cranks over like a trooper, but when the key is turned on, the normal sound of the Walbro pump priming up is non existant, even with the fuel cap off. Im pretty sure the power to the fuel pump has failed, as even the relay works properly. Just finished with the NRMA guy on the Excel, he sprayed the throttle body with cleaner, and suggested to try and drive it back to Canberra tonight, and take it to The hyundai dealer tomorrow, as the dealer can use the scan tool to pick up what ever error the check engine light was throwing.

I need some technical assistance and phycological guidance here people! I stayed at my in laws house in Goulburn last night, for a xmas party. Anyway, Got in my ute this morning, all ready to drive down the winding, busy Clyde mountain to get to Batemans Bay for a few days, like most Canberrans, And she wouldnt start. Couldnt hear my Walbro fuel pump prime up at all with the key turned on (which I normally here whirring in the back behind the passenger), so I called the NRMA. The guy checked the relays, and fuse, took the cap off the fuel tank and got me to wind it over, but there was nothing. So either the power into the fuel pump has stuffed up in the tank or on the top of the tank, or I've stuffed a 6 month old Fuel pump! Either way, I cant fix it without getting it to a workshop to put it on a hoist, and pull the tank out!!! So my ute is stuck in Goulburn till I can get someone open to fix it, prolly thursday. So I got my sister in law to drive my Girlfriend and I back to Canberra (about 100km each way!), putting out from her holiday, and we packed all our gear into my girlfriends little 98 Excel, still keen for the coast. Started travelling down, got about 20km out of Canberra, and the Excel shuts down at 90km an hour! Check engine light comes on, and without a whirr or splutter, engine dies and we roll to the side of the road! Never done it before, and We have owned it from new! I checked the oil, coolant levels and temperatures, all are perfect, full tank of fuel leave the car there for a few minutes and bang, she starts up again! Drive another 10km and she does it again, no spluttering just a shutdown. Get going again, thinking that bad things come in 3's but another few km down the road, she shuts off again! I waited a few minutes, got it going, drove another 4km or so to Bungendore (On the way to the coast, and where I work!) and have now called the NRMA to come and take a look. So here I am, sitting at my work computer dribbling on when I should have been at the coast hours ago!!! The car is starting perfectly now, idles fine, no sign of any problem what so ever, but im just not sure what would be causing it to shut down at full speed? The only thing I can think of is theres something to do with an electrical system or throttle control heating up and dropping out? I have checked all fuses and relays and they are fine? Im guessing that with all this trouble something in the universe was trying to tell me not to go to the coast today, so I might just try and get home sometime tonight and see what happens tomorrow. Can anyone suggest anything that may help work out the problem? and get home?

I loosened off the fittings at the front of both front wheel arches/ inner guards, then packed some washers under the mounting bolts that fix the bumper on under the bonnet, and retightened the guard fittings. Worked for me!

Thanks for your input Tom. The transmission fluid flows thru the radiator before it is air cooled. This will at least raise the transmission fluid temperature for the climate I live in (Canberra, bloody cold most of the year!) when first driving the car. This car is my daily driver, and gets driven around to work at times such as 6am. Under colder weather conditions there is no need for any of the thermo fans to activate, so they dont. One reason that Ford run the fluid thru the radiator is to also HEAT the fluid for colder temperatures. Ideally, Im using the transmission air cooler and thermo fan to assist in the cooling of the gearbox under high temperature situations. There isnt a great deal of room left anywhere to mount this since I have an aftermarket Intercooler that takes all of the front grill area. The reason it is where it is, is because there was enough room to fit it and the fan to circulate the air that comes in the openings of the lower grill. An air intake pipe of some description would probably be helpful, but im not sure where from in order to keep mud and water off the thermo fan and tranny cooler itself. It would be helpful though. The idea of using the thermo fans linked to the radiator fans is purely so I know when they are on or off, and can activate themselves when the entire engine is hot. Since the tranny fluid in the radiator heats the radiator fluid up when its hot anyway, even though the radiator fluid is running thru a 160 degree thermostat. The cooler the radiator fluid around hot tranny fluid the better. The idea is designed to assist the entire engine and associated systems to cool down. As we all know, heat is as big as enemy to our cars as HSV is! We want to blow away both of these enemy's! And it seems to be working!!!!

Bump! Just an update for anyone interested, I put my thermo fan in for my tranny cooler. Used the power from the existing thermo fans to activate a relay for the new thermo, then fitted a diode in the relay activation line to stop any back flow of power to the ecu or the existing fans. The result, a consistantly cooler tranny cooler. Every time I hear the current thermo fans come on, I know the tranny is getting help too! See pics! This is the little Davies Craig thermo I used. These are the brackets I made to mount it. This shows the brackets mounted to the fan itself And here are a front and side view of it in position. It does work a treat, only thing is the slight noise from the fan now. At least its saving the auto. Cheers!

Chris is running the standard 4 speed auto. Awesome time really! considering he was chasing the 13's earlier this year!

Xtreme Ford Tuning- Talk to Simon. He's a gun over there!
-
You should have swapped the intercooler for the injectors first mate! Sounds like a good kit though!
-
Welcome mate! Ok, Just make sure you avoid these suburbs- Queanbeyan (unless your car is over insured!) Charnwood (just a northern version of Queanbeyan!) Gordon (Is half way to cooma) Dunlop (Half way to no where!) Theres a start! What sort of place you looking for, What budget?

anytime guys, sounds good to me!

I have a mate with an edited GT that makes 250+rwkw on every dyno I know, but the other day it only made 230. I think its because the edit runs on Windows based software. We all know how reliable windows is. Just shut it down and re boot is the best answer any tech can give????

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but is the copper grease the way to stop this?? One of mine fell out completely and luckily I found it just sitting in behind the turbo housing.
