Guys, I'm planning on going for another tune and will be getting injectors intalled too (BF II XR6T)...(currently car just has a tune and high flow cat, appart from this its' stock). I also have an intercooler lying around from an FPV Typhoon, and I'm wondering weather to bolt this on prior to the tune... You guys think it's worth it?...or are the gains between the stock BF and Typhoon intercooler negligible... Not planning on doing much to the car to justify a PW intercooler etc... So basically all I want to do to the car is, a custom tune, injectors, and high flow cat...(Typhoon intercooler debatable) What do you guys think?

Out of curiosity, how is the paint job...I personally haven't had the best experience with insurance subsidised paint jobs...the panel shops always just slap things together and try and get away with every short cut they can...
-
Yeah that's not a boost spike issue...it does sound like coils
-
Sounds like you might have a puntcure in your actuator diaphragm causing the car to overboost which pushes the car into limp mode. The symptoms you notice, is that the car goes harder on initial accelration until you trip the over boost setting which I think is around 9psi, and then its limp mode... I would be considering changing your actuator to fix the problem. In the mean time to try and stem the overboost, appart from driving the car more gently, you could also loosen the clamps on the rubber hose that connects to the throttle body, this should keep your boost just under the threshold...(this has worked for me in the passed...not saying it will work for you)

The car is stock as a rock...hmmm...I might try and see if I can replicate it on video

Guys, I have noticed my FG makes a groaning resonating type of noise, under certain conditions. For instance if I accelerate off the lights a bit more rapid than normal say 3/10 throttle...It will shift from first to second and then to third...but while in third as it starts to moderately stretch out third gear I can hear a resonating sound in the middle of the gear...which goes away as the car pushes through the gear... It's like the feel of being in a taller gear than you should be for the speed...not sure if this makes sense... Anyone experience something similar?

Hmmm...I always thought they were around the 7 litre mark...I usually just empty a 5 litre bottle and another 2 litres from another bottle and that usually gets it just right...that's on my BF...but on my FG I can't recall as I have only changed it once myself...but it might take less from memory...

From memory I think im running around 38 -40PSI...the car has your standard Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres on it, and it definitly appears to be coming form the fornt drivers side

Guys, Changed the front drivers side wheel bearing over the weekend on the BF, as it was making that typical groaning noise, but the new bearing has not affected the noise at all. I'm convinced that it is the front drivers side area where the rotational noise is coming from, and when I turn left the noise gets heavier, but im at a loss as to what could be causing it... You guys think it could be my wheel or tryre?

It could be, but from my experience an abs sensor setting off DSC, feels like a vibration through the pedal too... Are you getting a pulse through the brake pedal?

Yeah that's a chaser...if it's a 2014 model then you should be picking it up for around 21K max...give or take $500...(white one) If its a 2013 model white...about the 20K mark give or take $500. A nice coloured one should go for around 22K, is its a 2013 or 2014... Late 2012 models go even cheaper... Looks like prices have eased a bit at the moment, as they were going for dearer prices a few months back...
-
If it's an ex chaser, you might as well go straight to Pickles Auctions and pick one up, rather than paying up to an 8K premium for one that was bought from Auction on a Tuesday and put on Carsales the very next day...

Out of curiosity shouldn't the mechatronics throw the tranny into limp mode when it detects the excessive slip?...hence getting the incorrect gear ratio errors?

When you say whine...does it do it in every gear?...or does it just do it on a certain gear...and does it just do it while it's cold...and the whine goes away when it warms up?... My BF had a slight whine in second gear...its done this from 60,000kms, it's now done 245,000kms...and the box is still going... Though lately it has started to develop a whine when cold...which goes away when the car warms up... I have also experienced the early upshift in gears (I.e the car not winding out the gears under full load...) and its very frustrating... I know the computer does compensate by changing its shift patterns to protect itself...and I also think there is a "hot mode" on the ZF where it will restrcist kick down and not wind out gears when the oil hits a certain temperature... Just for the record as I have been shopping around on a potential rebuild on a ZF, the absolute cheapest price I have found for a ZF rebuild is $2,800...(and that's supposedly mates rates...)

It's normal for boost to spike between gear changes on an auto...

Assuming there are no air leaks...and because it is a BA I would take a guess and say the TPS...

Lol...My first car was a UC Torana...or Sunbird...they did have weird looking lights... Regarding the white worm rims...I bought a spare FPV rim and tyre off a written off FG II highway patrol car...(it was the spare wheel...wasn't used, but some of the clearcoat had come off due to the fire brigade spraying some chemical on the car so it wouldnt catch fire) I took it to Bob Jane in Haberfield and the guys polished it up and clearcoated it, and you can't even tell where the clearcoat had peeled off before...(looks brand new)...this cost me $80 and it was same day service...

Yeah my EX HWY BF MARK II XR6T I bought with 60,000kms...and it's done 245,000KMS...I'm starting to worry that im going to start having tranny and turbo wear problems soon...which is why im looking at upgrading...but im not convinced on the high kms the exchasers have at the auctions...
-
You guys reckon its better value to get something new like a run out FG II? So far the best drive away price I have gotten is just under 40K...for FG II XR6T... I dont mind the chasers...and those prices would be good value if the cars had half the kms on them...but the high kms are a big turn off... Victorian ex chasers usually have around 50 to 60K on the clock but no Brembos or FPV wheels...

Just for the record at this mornings NSW govt auction... 1/14 KINETIC MARKED FG II XR6T, 81K, $22,200 1/14 VARNISH MARKED FG II XR6T, 87K, $21,600 2/13 WHITE MARKED FG II XR6T, 92K, $19,750 12/12 WHITE MARKED FG II XR6T, 82K, $19,500 12/13 WHITE MARKED FG II XR6T, 88K, $20,300 3/14 WHITE MARKED FG II XR6T, 90K, $21,250

Hmmm...the FPV wheels can buckle quite easy...(have had this happen to me)...even though local tyre shop didn't pick it up on the balancer...when I took it into Ford they found the buckled wheel straight away...not sure if they have more sensitive wheel balancing machines...(Not saying this is the case with you) My symptoms of a buckled wheel were only noticeable at highway speeds, on nice smooth freeway tarmac... Maybe try and get your wheels re balanced incase a weight has come off. From experience a leaking engine mount will give the car a rough idle feel...(as in more noticeable while idling at the lights, than when your moving) Could be an unbalanced tailshaft causing the problem too...(maybe it needs to be rebalanced)
-
Yeah just came back form the dealer now... They have a balck FG Mark II XR6T and one Kinenetic Blue FGX XR6T...(that kinetic colour looks the goods in direct sunlight...that's definitly my favourite colour) Didn't really haggle on price as yet, as im not really sure what people are paying for them...so I dont want to sell myself short without knowing what people are actually buying them for... The black FG II they said was purchased as demo, but only has 40KM on the clock so its new...but looking at two cars side by side the FGX looks a bit more newer and slicker...

Slow Speed Knock/rattle In Rear End Of Fg
boost69 replied to ello678's topic in Suspension and Handling
Technical Service Bulletin It's a memo that goes around to the Ford workshops letting them know of an inherent problem, and how to go about fixing it...(Like the handbrake issue on the BA Falcons). Though the bulletin usually says it only should be fixed if the customer complains about this issue...
