I noticed that XR BFs are starting to flow through the govt auctions and the police are geting the 6 speed box....from what I gather you could probably get a BF XR6T or BF XR8 for late 20s depending on the kms ofcourse....For the price would you consider purchasing one?

Just wanted to know how much power should be expected with the following mods... K & N Air Filter Herods Exhaust (cat back dual 2.5") High tension Valve Springs Bosch 968 injectors After tuning what range of power has been acheived with the above mods.... Cheers

Have had an annoying noise comming from the rear wheels like a friction noise sounds like the hanbrake is grabbing... Have taken it to Ford on numerous occassions to get it it looked at... they adjust the hanbrake and give the car back only to find as the car is driven down the road the noise starts again. It seems to be more evident when the car has been driven for a while....... The Ford guys even put in some clip that is supposed to prevent this noise but to no avail... They just cant seem to fix this problem and its really starting to p!@# me off!!! Ive heard heaps of xrs making the same noise on the road and wondered why Ford cant figure out this problem if it is such a common one... Has anyone had this problem with their car and if so how did you fix it?

Well higher boost produces more force (pounds per square inch) Larger turbo gives you more volume of air.....

Be careful with the generic tunes as I know of engines that have missfired under full load and then a ticking noise started from the motor. Even though the ticking sounds harmless there is a chance it could be a bent rod as this has happened on a few xr6ts with generic edit. If you have been giving the car big hits and its been pinging then it could be the rod, sometimes the pinging is loud, but even if its not heard you can still be causing damage due to hot spots being created in the chamber. The xr6t can handle quite alot of pinging before the rod actualy bends (even though the rods are a weak point).

Even though youve done the valve springs there still exists the remote possibility that you might have a faulty spring int he new set...Im sure if it was a fuel volume issue it would have have been quite obvious on the AFR readouts... There is a possibility that one of the springs doesnt have the required tension needed, and on full boost is still not able to cope... Let us know how you go with solving the problem

Yeh you can get it done now shouldnt be an issue at all....even if you need to take the car in for warranty work just reload the standard program and there will be no issues at all...as long as you havent made any hardware upgrades. Above all make sure you dont just run the generic 10psi tune MAKE SURE YOU GET IT CUSTOM TUNED to avoid any problems. Havent had good experiences with the generic 10psi tune and I would strongly recommend a custom tune.

I think the ones on the cars don't emit radiation as they use a diferent type of radar beam which is more disperesed (not laser). On the other hand the laser hand ones to emit radiation... Apparently there were a number of California Highway Patrol Officers who took civil action against the Dept because a number of them developed testicular cancer. Apparently the cause was pinpointed to the Highway Patrol officers resting the radar gun on their groin as they were sitting in their car between taking read outs on passing cars So it seems the hand held laser guns are a bit of a health hazard....

Yeh had only driven a Expensive Daewoo too, from fuel injected V8s to the VL turbo. I had a VL turbo berlina 5 speed which I did some mild work to like add an intercooler high flow the turbo etc... and the increase in performance was phenominal. So I knew straight away when Ford released the BA XR6T that this car would have unlimited potential being a big 4 litre six cylinder.... It is quite obvious that the car responds so well to the most minor of modifications. Its unbeleivable that you can get a near stock car which is driven every day to comfortably break into the 12s with the most basic of mods... You cant beat turbos for performance and you especialy cant beat a big torqey six cylinder turbo like the XR6T......

Yeh $400-$500 to get custom tune is the going rate depending on your valve spring situation you should be able to get around the 240rwk mark just by the tune alone. Generaly speaking though valve springs tend to become an issue on most cars when boosting over 10psi. So you might also need to allow $700-$800 to get them installed if your planning on going over 10psi but this really depends on the individual car... Sometimes you just have to bight the bullet to get things done right ITS WORTH THE MONEY TO GET IT CUSTOM TUNED
-
I would strongly suggest getting a custom tune done as the 10psi program has problems with boost spike.(not sure is this has been fixed now) Not every CAPA 10psi flash program will have this problem but ive seen cars that are running the default 10psi program boost to over 15psi and ping their a$$ off. The degree of spike will depend on the car also. It is well worth getting the custom tune done from a performance and engine safety perspective.

You should hire two massive tongan dudes and charge an entry fee I reckon lol... On a serious note I havent had problems with lights flickering but the handbrake rubbing noise is driving me nuts!!! Its obvious that most xr6 turbos have this problem and ford still wont fix it under warranty. Then you pay to get it fixed and 10 minutes later as your driving down the road it starts again. Theyre great cars to drive but sometimes these niddley problems really pee you off

Are these the injectors I should be getting as they seem to be highly recommended by fellow members. Whats the actual part number for these injectors in the Bosch catalogue? Also what am I looking at paying for purchase and installation? Thanks in advance guys

Rev limiter - every time the rev limiter is activated the code is recorded on the computer.Ford can tell how many times car has hit the rev limiter. This means nothing though as the rev limiters purpose is to safeguard the car. Another log the computer records is "overboost".Computer will record code when turbo overboosts, but this log can be activated with the slightest overboost.Eg) even half a pound over it will log it.This proves nothing to Ford as most cars were prone to boost spike anyway and also the computer doesnt record boost levels. So Ford wouldnt be able to tell whether the car over boosted by 0.5 psi or 10 psi.

Hyperflow instaled an intercooler on my vl turbo back in the days.I was very happy with the workmanship they take alot of pride in their work. Even the tuning places I used to take my car too used to freak out at the job. Back then it cwas ustom made $1700 roughly and I could chose how big the core was. It was so big it was literaly like 3 inches off the ground.

that's great news mate. You should be relieved!!! Ask your Ford dealer what actualy caused the problem. Chances are they will blame it on a faulty acuator. As this is one of their standard responses to a bent rod. All the best with it

There is a problem with weak rods on the xr6t even in stock form.Ford will not admit this but there is an inherent problem there.Ford will look at any type of engine failure suspiciously. The scenario will be that Ford head office will request motor be stripped and sent to them with computer. From there they will analyse motor to see if rod bent due to assembly error or pinging overboost problem. Note that Ford is fully aware that stock standard cars were overboosting which was one reason why they reflashed any xrt6 that came in for any type of service. In a nutshell Ford has no option but to honour the warranty as the car is standard.Im quite sure they will replace the powerplant ie) short motor and maybe even head if it has copped a hammering. All other parts will be your original ones unless Ford deems them to be damaged.(eg turbo). AS LONG AS THE CAR IS UNMODIFIED THEY SHOULD HONOUR THE WARRANTY. WORST CASE SCENARIO WOULD BE FOR THEM TO GIVE YOU THE RUN AROUND FOR A FEW MONTHS BUT THEY WILL END UP FIXING IT. MOST LIKELY SCENARIO MOTOR WILL BE REPLACED WITH EITHER RECONDITIONED ITEM OR NEW. Hope this helps

How does the rev limiter work? Does it cut out spark or fuel? As if its cutting out of fuel it might cause a lean out problem. Anyone know?

Can anyone recommend any decent engine builders in the Melbourne metro area. As I am contemplating rebuilding the motor to stronger specs...... your suggestions are welcome. Cheers
-
Well that's how the car is in its present form. The car should be able to handle slight mods but its obvious the xr6t has some major workmanship issues. Punching rods out of the block should normaly happen when your running rediculous boost. The xr6t is popular because it has the potential to unleash extraordinary power. Its obvious though now that it cant handle even the slightest increase in power reliably. Prob reason why the Phoon got the strenghtened rods. I could understand if I was running stupid boost but I wasnt. The car was dynoed to make sure it was within safe pametres

The car has been towed to the dealership and the only mod on it is a cat back herods 2 x 2.5 inch exhaust system.

Whent to Ford last week as car was making tapping noise. They couldnt figure out where the noise was comming from so they told me they need to rebook it for the engineer to check it out. They specificaly said I could drive the car as nothing was going to pop. Well guess what? I had a rod puch through the side of the block. Im fuming!!! Cant beleive a car which is essentialy stock can sustain such damage!!! I also cant believe the Ford people let me drive the car. I anticipate the Ford people giving me the biggest run around now!!!! I bet they will try and find any excuse not to replace my motor...... I seriously dont know where I stand....
-
Has anyone had problems with their motor and has Ford come to the party with the warranty. My motor is making a tapping noise and ive left it with the guys from Ford service and they've already pulled the motor out to try and figure out the problem. Will Ford fix the prob at their cost if its found to be something serious and expensive like a bearing or rod? Or should I expect them to start giving me the run around..... I only know of one other member that's had engine noise and Ford is refusing to bare the costs of fixing it. At this stage I dont know what it is but if its a bent rod etc.. I think Ford has some serious engineering and workmanship problems, as its seriously pathetic to be having these problems on such a new car with such low kms.... I mean you would expect serious engine problems after a hard 150,000kms and even then it would still annoy you. I would appreciate any factual input from members that have had the same problem as me. I mean has Ford ever rebuilt a faulty motor at their cost wihout putting up a fight?

Hmmmmmm.... Lets say I whent in for servicing my car gets flashed with an updated ford program. I come home upload a CAPA flash program and save the factory one on the CAPA box. Then before taking my car in for the next service I upload the CAPA program and re download the factory program that was saved on the CAPA box. Will they know? Does the CPU keep a memory of when the the unit was last flashed? Or keep certain data in its memory such as ave speed, ave revs, average boost pressure etc... So if they process this data on their computers they can see that the car was boosting at 10psi etc.. and hence not running a factory program.
-
If ive flashed my car and then re input my original factory program before taking my car in for servicing will Ford know that I have had a nother program on there? Im quite concerned about Ford warranty issues and need some factual advice or first hand experience of members that have flashed and then re inputted original factory program be fore servicing. Your input is appreciated guys
