  1. In regard to the rod issue...I know from my brothers car that his ticking noise wasnt that loud and the car seemed to drive normally...actually drove it around for weeks with this slight ticking noise until he gave it a hit one day and punched a hole out the side of the block...Though the noise was there from idle and throughout the rev range... Also sometimes even a bottom end bearing on its way out can cause the ticking...and this can get even louder at a certain rev range... Though these scenarios are unlikely unless you have meddled with the car or its pinged etc... or have had instances of low oil pressure etc...
  2. Im using the Motorcraft ones which are manufactured by Denso... from memory they are pregapped to 0.8mm
  3. Guys, My car is totally stock but today as I was joining the motorway I gunned it around a bend in order to get in a gap in the traffic, and as I was gunning it I thought I heard the car ping... Admittedly my fuel level was under quarter way...are stockers prone to fuel surging and pinging just as much as modified cars? I always run 98 Octane (Shell or Mobil)...anyone had this sort of experience in a stocker?
  4. Yeah you cant go wrong with changing your 02 sensor at around 100,000KMS anyway...and they are quite cheap on ebay...its not hard to replace yourself either as long as the old one isnt jammed tight onto the manifold.
  5. Was your foot constantly on the accelarator or did you give it a bootfull and just before it was about to kick back you backed off the accelerator? Or something in that sequence as I have experienced the ZF being confused about what to do and it feels like it goes into neutral until it figures out what you want to do...not sure if that helps you
  6. Sounds like your wastegate actuator. More specifically you might have a hole in your actuator diaphragm which is causing a an overboost problem hence why the car is cutting out...or maybe even possibly a lean out problem...chances are its an overboost problem. Hook up a boost gauge to confirm or dispell this issue.
  7. My seat started squeeking too and there is movement especially when im braking...not sure if it's a seat frame issue or a rail issue etc...let me know how you go about solving this problem as it is very annoying...
  8. Yeah I have the old GTech meter also...so you guys reckon they are pretty spot on?...I might dust it off and give it a go...though from memory it has to sit totally flat and you have to be on a flat road to get an accurate reading???...have you guys used it to work out power after inputting weight data? The iphone gmeter application I have is the "BMW M Power Meter"...though I havent really tested it out yet...
  9. The PCV valve (blue circle around it) should make a rattling noise when you shake it like a spay can...they also cost around $7 genuine
  10. Fair enough guys...I guess Im a bit slow...but the prices are a bit steep for now...I will wait for prices to setle before I contemplate buying one... FYI the white one went for 27K and the silver one 29K...
  11. Ive got the Injection Perfection bright orange sticker and Police barcode also... and that camera bracket on the windscreen which seems like it will never come off!!!
  12. Guys just noticed on the Folwes website two listings...one for a silver and another for a white fg xr6t ex chaser... I wonder what they will go for...as the first few off the blocks tend to go for rediculous prices... I think they look pretty hot with the brembo brake and fpv wheel set up... Overboost

From memory 9PSI is the cut out for a standard ecu car...when I had wastegate issues mine would go much harder down low but as soon as the revs built up it would just cut out and and go into limp mode...we hooked up a boost gauge to it and we noticed as soon as it held more than 9PSI of boost it would cut out...so it is very likely you sre hitting this cut out
  14. My brothers car does exactly the same thing...once its warmed up there is no noise at all...I reckon its a bearing issue but then again its hard to diagnose without taking turbo off...let me know how you go...as we would surely have the same issue...the other thing to note is that my brothers noise is not getting progressively worse it's just constant and its been going on for over 6 months. Though we still plan on freshening up a spare turbo we have and changing it over just incase the turbo desintigrates and causes more damage...
  15. Mine does the same...you start it...then put it in drive and about 5 seconds later you hear that knocking noise for about 3 seconds and then nothing everything is normal...mine does this without fail every time...I have always wondered wether this is normal...
  16. Usually ticking noise means rods in these cars...you need to get it diagnosed ASAP to avoid destroying your block also...just ring around performance shops...though im sure C&V performance will diagnose it for you since you in Sydney also...
  17. Hmmm...I think im having the same problem so you pulled your seat appart...did you have to replace anything etc...
  18. How did you with the wobbly seat? How did you fix it?
  19. There is no doubt the cars aren't babied but because we have bought ex chasers over the years I have a certain amount of confidence in buying one especially ones that are still covered under warranty...The ex chaser VN V8 we got from the auctions years ago never missed a beat for years even though people were adamant that it was thrashed and wouldnt last etc...As long as it hasnt been in a crash etc...then most issues with these cars will be covered under warranty...and I have never had a warranty claim denied because my car was an ex chaser...I am indifferent toward ex chasers but on a value for money basis they are worth considering...
  20. Sorry fordriver1, I was trying to write my post quickly and totally neglected my grammar in the process. Never the less, I agree with your comment as I also believe most cars have a safe buffer engineered into them when in stock standard form.
  21. Yeah we have had cop cars over the years from xf falcons to vn v8 commodores and mechanically they have been very strong and I currently have a BF Mark II XR6T like all cars they have their small problems etc...but over all they are just as reliable as any other car (maybe even more so as they need to be kept in tip top mechanical condition)... unless you get one that was totally abused and even these cars you can tell straight away from the look of them that they have been abused and even then they end up going for a rediculously cheap price and still with warranty... from first hand exprience I would buy an chaser... in a bunch of 10 chasers you will get an average of about 2 or 3 that will be in very good condition and hence very good value for money...I will definately be buying an FG EX chaser when they hit the auctions...
  22. On a BA I would say the problem is the TPS...I would change it as you have described a classic example of a fualty TPS...

    Brake Shudder

DBA Steve I read your email earlier thanks for the assistance...I have recently re skimmed the rotors and I will see how we go... if the problem perists again I will follow you up on your offer...everyones advice make sense an I am fully aware of the heat spot created after a hard stop to a halt scenario so where practicable I try to avoid this situation. From what I know the Bendix Ultimates/DBA 4000 set up is what was used by the NSW HWY Patrol on their BF range and im quite sure they would have put this setup through its paces but I havent heard any complaints anwhere and with such a large fleet im sure if there was aa problem you would have heard about it.
  24. I think all these cameras tend to take the focus away from actually driving and onto your speedo I know that you shouldnt speed etc...and you should be aware and I dont usually speed and I am usually 100% focused on my driving but I dont think you should be punished for a momentary increase in speed...the real danger is those people who are on the road and are not aware of their surroundings or anything for that matter...such as the people that hog the right lane of a 110kph freeway doing 80kph...its like HOW DID YOU GET YOUR LICENCE...or people who dont indicate at roundabouts...or people who do rediculous speeds etc...I really think these new safety cameras and the new mobile ones will catch out allot of people who are pretty much always generally doing the right
